I have always loved this movie, but when she told her young student she had to dress up as male inventor because "hardly any women invented anything" I kept wanting her to ask to be Madame Curie (more of a scientist to but damnit she invented self inflicted radiation sickness). This movie has a more benign Blood on Satans Claw vibe..

😂 Yeah that definitely got an eyebrow raise from me.

Definitely some of the script is a product of it's time. I liked this one as a whole but there are some definite issues with it. With May day coming up and the UK villages dusting off our maypoles the whole culty English village vibe is in full swing here and it reminded me of this horror.

A respectful review of this, my favourite film (yes, really). Duncan Lamont's sinister butcher, Curd, is a superb character, as is Gwen Ffrangcon Davies as Granny Rigg. Hambleden (Heddaby) is one of my favourite places on earth and I still visit frequently.

I love Hammer, classic and new, but I am British so maybe it's more on our radar being a British institute. The Witches is a great film, one of a number of oddities from the studio that probably are overlooked even in the UK, Plague of the Zombies, The Reptile, Prehistoric Women, Stolen Face, Dr Jekyll and sister Hyde, Hands of the Ripper, among others. I agree it loses itself in the final moments of the film, but it was made on a shoestring budget. Thanks for the great reviews on your channel.

I saw this in the cinema for an event celebrating the director. The whole way through I thought 'this is really well done, I wonder why its such a hidden gem?' Then the villain came out in that hat and the movie just lost all its killer atmosphere.

Hammer films are a big area of ignorance for me. I've seen 1 or 2 of the Dracula ones and I think that's about it. One of these days I'll buy a big box set and correct this film knowledge gap.

It's well worth the purchase as there are so many different films to the more well known dracula or poe. Another one to watch is the nanny with Bette Davis. Also a more gothic one is twins of evil or even the reptile

I visited the abandoned church in the summer th-cam.com/video/XN-xVVVY3IE/w-d-xo.html. You seem to be an Hungarian living in Wolverhampton. I know that town well.
