  • Tires are hands down the most important part of any build I plan. It determines everything! Well, I guess it does only if you're planning on keeping the truck low and usable off-road. In this video I walk you through what tires and wheels I chose to put on the Samurai, and more importantly, why.
If you'd like to skip the details and head to the DIY balancing part, skip to 13:50!
Formula for calculating Airsoft BB order
Number of tires x oz of bbs = total oz (5x6=30)
    Total oz x 28.35 = total grams (30x28.35=850.5)
Total grams / .12g = total count of bbs needed (850.5/.12=7087)

I have steel BB's in mine. I did this about 15-20 years ago and it's awesome... LUV pulling up to a stop and hit the brakes and they wall... sounds like air brakes... then take off and hearing the churn and drop inside the rim... ;-)

Awesome video, Just to make it easier, since those wheels have a reverse mounted drop center, You mount them from the other side. Noticed the struggle when putting the beads in, If you were to flip the tire over and do them from the back it would be much easier.
Side Note:Also heard and seen nothing but great reviews on those tires. Most likely the set I'm going to be picking up myself.

That right there is a good combo I recently put those same wheels and tire size on my samurai. I will admit I would of went with 33s instead, for my application, only because I live in southeast Texas and the mud over here is really deep and a taller tire would help. but yeah my 31s work really good though. steel wheels aren't really heavy compared to truck style alloy wheels, its only like a 5 pound difference. but I will say that if you compared a steelie to a draglite or some kind of 5 spoke sports car wheel it might be significant. and a tire like that prolly weights 45 pounds and if you look at atv tires some of them are even heavier than 45 lbs. great video though. I'm waiting on some wheeling vids with this new setup.

This is hard to ‘splain without showing you but here goes.
At minute 15 and minute 16, look at the rim.
Minute 15 is the longer side of the wheel. Minute 16 is very short.
If you mount the outside first you can put the bead down in the loser step when putting the final bead over the rim edge.
You get it started and push that started bead down into that lowest step.
    Look at minute 16 again.
By having the bead in that step, or groove, you gain more tire bead on the side you trying to slip over the rim edge. When you do this it’s a lot less stretch. As you.get more bead over you follow with your foot to keep the bead down in that bottom step and you tire will slip over much easier.
Once on, now you have a closer deep lip you can grab with your tire iron.
Your beads should pour in without running away from you.
Like I said, it’s much better to show you but I think you have enough experience hand mounting tire to get it.
    Good luck.
    One question,
    Why not use (legit) beads?
Are they that much higher price?
    As usual, great material.
    Thanks.

Who's steel wheel are you using? I'm dropping my stock axles sammi down to 31 inch tires as well. It's a spring over with no additional lift 4:56 gears and 4.16 transfer case. I was more concerned about how it might look as it now has 33s on it. I'm also running the Aerio 155 hp engine so maybe I will break less. This is all new to me.
