  • The troubling story of two teenaged brothers, Marc and Jean Wabafiyebazu, caught up Miami's dangerous drug scene. It might never have generated attention had they not been the sons of Canada`s Consul General in Miami. Roxanne Dubé shares her deeply personal story of double loss - one son dead, the other charged with 'felony murder' and potentially facing life in prison.

In case if you wonder what happened, here we go.... The story has a happy ending.
He received 8 months Bootcamp and 2 years house arrest and 8 years probation.
I think it's the right decision... Better than imprisoning him forever.

That's what he received but in reality the feds picked him up right away and deported him. Federal laws surpass state laws. There was nothing the judge could do about it but she sure tried. I'm glad the feds went and got him, I think she wanted to make this kid an example to other foreigners. It was clear by the evidence that he had no part in the shoot-out.

I'm not defending their actions regarding the drug dealing, but charging the younger one with murder makes absolutely no sense to me. He wasn't in the building and clearly no getaway driver or lookout. He looks so surprised and confused on that surveillance video when he apparently hears the gunshots and they have absolutely no evidence that he knew what his brother was planning to do.

I thought exactly the same thing when they showed that video.. the kids body language looked confused as hell when he heard those gunshots..
Maybe he knew they were buying weed but it doesnt look like he knew that any guns were going to be used.

It has happened in the past and will continue to occur because the justice system and procedure is far from sound! Flaws exist within the current methods of establishing proof of innocence that may lead to innocent individuals enduring more than 25 years incarceration.

Of course the last word (hopefully wise ones!) goes with the parent(s) but unless they're in imminent danger (if they try and cross the road without looking probably not the best time for a debate on the wisdom of it) parents should discuss and explain to their kids why they are doing something, and why the kid is not able to do or get something, and all the rest of the stuff that crops up on bringing up a child. People who have violent inclinations will seek out that type of music, and that validates those tendencies. It's a feedback loop. It's also a tendency to ascribe blame to external factors. Fact is that these 2 boys were of mixed race, which in practice means they can't fit in with the white world 100% so they falsely assume they can dominate in the black world by their perceived advantage.

@@Littleone124 It's probably different for women. I can only speak for myself, as a man who's never been into any kind of violent music or movies because I feel that real life is violent enough. I mostly listen to Soviet-era Russian and Eastern European disco because it brings me back to a past that really sucked, but that was nevertheless simpler and more innocent than today. In a sense, it's almost like being of mixed race because I'm using Soviet coping techniques in modern Germany, which doesn't always work out. It's also why I feel the need to go back HOME, to Eastern Europe where the music brings me back to an idealised version of that life.

Exactly! I would not go to sleep if I did know exactly where my kids are… they would have thru a lot of work to fool me. Teenagers need a very close eye on them. Who are their friends? The parents of their friends? The friends of their friends…

Absurd that they would convict this kid on the unrecorded word of a Cop knowing he wasn't even advised of his 'rights' and deny bond. This is the US 'Justice' system folks.

Miriam Spillane Because American system actually collecting slaves in prisons but they don’t want to admitted it . Ya’ll now work for the system for no$$ for the rest of your lives , in other words modern slavery ....never heard sentences given to convicts so harsh, for no major crime so very unfair (not talking about this case) wouldn’t happen anywhere else in the world just USA, absolutely ridiculous !

Just an update: Marc Wabafiyebazu, Canadian diplomat's son, deported from Florida. A teenager caught up in a double shooting in Florida that left his older brother dead has been quietly deported to Canada following a remarkable standoff between U.S. federal authorities and the state judge who sentenced him.

@@jacquiejacquie6510 maybe his brother was his keep after all. By having to do the sentence and seeing what happened to his brother, forced him to evaluate what he had and the path he should be on.
I think if he counseled people when in prison it might have been a better path for him

This justice system is inhumane as hell. Mind boggling that this happens in a Western civilization and that people of high intelligence and years of education on university level apply this without a blink of an eye. Unbelievable, just unbelievable. Angers me
