I had the Fenix 6X Solar and can tell you that the Solar feature is a gimmick not really adding much extra battery at all. I am finally replacing my reliable Fenix 3 HR with a 6 Pro. Got it yesterday and was disappointed that it is so small. I have a small wrist at 5'7" but still felt the 6 Pro was like a woman's watch versus the chunky (manly) Fenix 3. Just ordered the 6x and should get it tomorrow. Can't wait. These watches are tanks. My Fenix 3 HR has been flawless. I use it daily (workouts, notification, GPS) since it came out. It has been amazingly reliable. Get one of these - you will love it.
I have had the 6X Pro Sapphire for two weeks now since replacing my 6X Pro Solar and and it is awesome. The battery is the main selling point in addition to the sapphire screen which I find much easier to read than the 5x screen. The text is way more clear and easier to read in both direct sunlight and indoors. The options you get to extend the battery based on what amount of activity you are doing gives you tremendous flexibility to set it for more time than virtually anyone will ever need. Such a massive difference from the Apple Watch whose battery can not get through one day for me even if I don’t do any GPS activity. I would recommend the 6X Sapphire Pro to anyone who loves the Fenix line, even if you have a 5 series, assuming you don’t mind spending the extra money. Hopes this helps everyone.
I got my 6X sapphire last weekend from Best Buy. I wanted the solar one but I was impatient and I wanted the sapphire not gorilla glass. The only downside is that the data lover watch face hasn’t been updated yet. I contacted the developer on Instagram about it and he claims to be working on it.
Lol, I was, am, exactly the same! I wanted the solar but can't give up sapphire glass, nor could I wait for it! Plus from the reviews of the solar..not what I was expecting, will only really keep the battery level as is (when in direct sunlight for about 12h). I wouldn't give up sapphire glass for that, how about you ?
i think Sapphire is more important than the Solar. Solar is a gimmick (although cool). Sapphire is a must - i have banged up my Fenix 3 HR sapphire for years and the screen is absolutely perfect. Its indestructible
I actually think 5X Plus looks more rugged and sturdy than the 6X. Also, the 5X bezel looks darker than the 6X bezel. It looks more like 5. Not really sold yet. That's just my take.
JT, thanks for the Unbox. Question: As a swimmer, I've never liked the need for a chest HRM, so I don't wear them. Now that Garmin has allowed the wrist HRM to track while swimming, will it combine with all other activities in the Training Status widget? TIA when you finish your full review.
I have worn a Fenix 3 HR (sapphire edition) since late 2016 and want to upgrade to the Fenix 6X Pro soon. My sapphire screen is still scratch-free after almost 5 years, but I have always disliked how it mutes the screen brightness and clarity of watch face and app details. I enabled the gesture auto-on backlight feature to add some visibility help. I have seen videos with the sapphire and Corning Gorilla glass side by side and the GG always displays brighter and clearer, with the only GG display downside being a washed out blue backlight hue (where the sapphire backlight gives a truer black/white contrast). Based on display quality and visibility (not scratch-resistance), what do Series 6x Pro users say (sapphire vs GG)?
i have 3HR , does the HR sensor protrudes like on Fenix 3? Or it's flatter? I must say, sometimes i feel the protrusion on my wrist and it's not a comfy watch
Am switching from a gear s3 mainly due battery life and always on display. Is the Fenix a true always on watch face or does it time out to a battery saving (dim) mode after a few seconds.
I have a Samsung gear s3 frontier for over 2 years now. Switched to a Forerunner 245, it was too small for me, returned that back and got Fenix 5 two weeks ago. Both garmin watches are always on display and battery life is amazing. Now I'm considering switching to the Fenix 6 series since I like to get more features out of my watch. I purchased my watches on REI and they have a 90 day return policy. Try it.
@@christianlalisan1530 Got the 6x and love it. Screen resolution and watch faces are pretty bad but a worthy trade off for battery life. As a running watch it is sooo much better than the samsung.
@@craigrobertson5759 I agree but I might get the regular 6 Sapphire instead of a 6X. my Fenix 5 already went through a Spartan Ultra race and I like how it still had 47% battery left (trail run activity, GPS on, HR on, Bluetooth off) after 12 hrs of running. How much more for the 6 series. Pulse ox is one of the features I'm really looking forward using. Enjoy your new watch
@@christianlalisan1530 I thought the 6x was going to look too big but it actually looks pretty good. I decided to get it because I like the wider strap. Extra battery life is nice too but probably not really necessary as i'm sure the 6 battery is good enough. Great video.
