What I love about the off-Broadway version is that I feel like you can just tell how much fun they're having. This production had a budget of $40, a bagel and washing a theatre major's car every week and most of it went to the costumes and it was fun!! Barrett and Jess even said on a live stream that they loved how low-stakes this was. Barret said "we knew weren't doing Shakespeare, we were just giving you something fun to do on a Friday night" (or something).
I adore the new versions (I've seen the 21 Haymarket cast twice, the tour twice and the 21 Other Palace cast once) but damn this version has so much heart in it.
Also Barrett put her whole Wilbussy into this show. Someone had to say it.

@@qazwsx014jsbd8 This is the off Broadway production before they moved onto Broadway proper. I think they liked her laughing so much that they wrote it into the script of all future productions. Though I've also heard that the laughing was part of the script, but she laughed for too long and screamed "oh my God" too loud in this specific performance.

this was so fun! I first watched Heathers when I was 14 and I have a new level of respect now that I'm almost 18. The way it subverts the typical "intelligent but kind introvert girl meets macabre emo nerd loner and they live happily ever after" to the surprisingly more realistic "macabre emo nerd loner is kinda very toxic and will do crazy shit" is GENIUS. I know the film came before the musical but the way the musical does it is so good! And the MUSIC and the VIBE I love it! They strike a good balance of being dramatic and dark while also being fun. Love it, thank you for this Vistelia!

I went to a little community art center and saw a showing of heathers there. It had a lot of charm despite it not being *perfect* but it was still fun to watch. The girl who played Veronica was great. The art center up in the bonnie’s and that made it more fun to see for some reason

I need more apreciation for the last part of "Our Love is God", it gives me the chills, the way the instrumental gives a sensation of danger, also JD and Veronica's voices harmonizing, it feels so beautiful but scary at the same time, I don't see enough people talking about that, but its one of my favourite parts of the show.

TINY NITPICK 8:32, JD does say the "i lie" bullets were used by soldiers to FAKE their deaths, so Veronica could easily have still believed him if she was fluent but didn't think about any other holes in that story (namely that i can't find any evidence those were a real thing, so she might question never having learned it in HISTORY class, not German class) since that does seem like something you'd name your FAKE bullets. In-universe it seems to be only a coincidence that he, too, is lying - still clever though.
Can I just say the actor who plays Veronica puts so much energy into here character? It is amazing. I try my hardest to put all my energy into my character on stage like her.

I love how listening to the soundtrack vrs watching it have completly different atmospheres. Like with hamilton, theres no diologue that isn't in a song, so your just watching it without actually watching it. Whereas in Heathers the soundtrack, its a lot different. For example, Fight for me in sountrack form is so sweet like she's admiting she likes him and its just so sweet and wholesome, whereas in musical form its slowmo and rlly funny because of all the weird events that slowed down are just so much funnier. And in Dead girl walking, we're actually watching it and not just imagining it
