Glad to hear someone else using it for something more than the usual predictable EDM, this device goes deep and has so much potential, it's nice to hear people explore those possibilities.
Holy crap. Just wow. Beautiful. I had no idea something this small could produce something so refined in the right hands. Basically a whole EP on the MC-101. Astonishing.
Awesome sketches, Rephazer! Glad you're back :). Even with different gear, your music is identifiable as Rephazer, I like that. I really like the mood, sounds and chord progression of the last track.
Mate this is great. As mc-101 owner and as someone who is bit apart from edm I found this really cool and interesting. Will definitely check your bandcamp
Cool!!! I got my MC707 just a few days ago,. Now I discover the soundengine in the 101 is the same. Very small but capable box!! Totally lost confidence in Roland's interpretation of Virtual Analog synthesis after buying a GAIA and a FA-06. But the newer products sound much more detailed as it comes to modeling. Oh.. very nice songs and arrangements.. incredible with only 4 synthparts. _O_
Thanks a lot mate. Yes, those MC’s share the exact same soundengine though the 707 has far more options to edit the sounds and is quite a large machine compared to the 101 ;) Cheers
Great music. I've been on the fence about this one. It always sounds awesome and I'm a big fan of portable, powerful little grooveboxes but the UI doesn't appeal to me much. Maybe if they go on sale, I'll grab one up.
Thanks Matt! Long time no see man. Yes, it doesn't seem to convince a lot of people yet, probably because there are so many grooveboxes available now and also for less $$$. People also tend to compare this with the Circuit, but this is so much more.. it's a sleeper if you ask me ;)
super job!!! I love your songs!! I bought recently a MC 101. On this video at 3:15 how do you create this melody? it's an arpeggi? or you create this with step sequencer? thanks very much
Thanks ! Much appreciated :) There was no arpeggiator on the MC-101 when I made this (now there is one btw) so I used the quite advanced Elektron Octatrack arpeggiator with a midi keyboard connected to the Octatrack Midi in and Midi out from the Octatrack to the Midi in of the MC-101 while creating these clips at the time ;)
It took me some time to get out of my Elektron comfort zone and at first it felt like a modern Sound Canvas with sequencer, but after some time using it I think it's a really powerful machine.
@@Oblique331 Not at all.. You have like 4000 synth presets.. always one that comes close to what you are searching for I suppose. The amount of (insert) effects which you can use on this machine is insane which gives you a lot of sound customization if needed ;)
Binned my mc303 and got an mc505 1 year ago. After seeing this I just sold my 505 and my 101 is coming on Tuesday . Is there a forum ? Is there gossip on “song mode” ? What’s the corporate strategy on this - feels like it’s going to be developed over a long period as part of the Aira range. Agree ?
Hi there, I have no idea what the 'corporate strategy' on the new MC's is, but I assume there will be some updates and at least some bugfixes for both machines. I think there is a Roland forum, but there is almost no activity there.. Your best shot will probably be Gearslutz. Enjoy your MC-101! I like the machine a lot ;)
This is brilliant. Been talking myself out of buying one for weeks. This didn't help, I'll probably have one tonight. Is the piano sound from the MC-101 or your own samples? Sounds great.
@@Rephazer I'm very tempted to pick the 101 up. My only reservation is lack of tone editing, but as you can bring samples in and the effects sound great it will probably be fine. Great as a sketch pad!
@@Rephazer THANKS.....HOW may I benefit from your project page. I wish to purchase from you. Please here is my gmail address. Paxcoseals@gmail.com Thanks a lot.
Haven't tried it yet, but this should be possible with a looper track recording the output. Perhaps by using the scatter to loop and repeat the current beat you should theoratically also be able to blend songs I suppose.
@@miss.antidote No problem and I rather leave the convincing to Roland ;) For me it's different enough compared to the Elektron stuff and a nice addition to my setup with a lot of nice Rolandish (Rompler/VA) sounds, effects and Polphony.
Nice to hear this used for something other than the usual four-on-the-floor stuff. Very organic and cinematic-sounding.
Thanks! Glad you like it

Best Roland mc 101 video. Ulrich Schnauss style. Nice and beautiful!

Very nice. I just got one of these yesterday. Lots to learn. Great sounds. Lots of fun ahead.

My favorite MC 101 video of all time!!!! So refreshing to hear real music instead of the usual crap people make with these things. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure and I am glad you like it :)

@@Rephazer ok! so you mean you make the sound with elektron and use the loop in the MC 101? right?
Very nice video. Did you work enterely with the MC 101 without external gear as a midi keyborad?
Thanks. I remember using the Octatrack midi to get arps into the 101. All other melodies are made directly on the 101
Wow that piano in the third song. Didn't think that was possible out of such an entry level box.
Yes, great sounds inside the MC-101.
Hi great work. I especially love the melodic lines. How would you recommend this groove box?
It took me some time to get out of my Elektron comfort zone and at first it felt like a modern Sound Canvas with sequencer, but after some time using it I think it's a really powerful machine.
Rephazer that’s great - does it worry you that there is not much customisation of synth patches?
@@Oblique331 Not at all.. You have like 4000 synth presets.. always one that comes close to what you are searching for I suppose. The amount of (insert) effects which you can use on this machine is insane which gives you a lot of sound customization if needed ;)
This is great! Question: Are the bass patches for the 1st and 2nd sketches a
custom samples, or one of the 101's presets?
Thanks. First sketch bass patch is a custom sample and the second sketch bass patch is a customized synth preset.

Fantastic performance! Are these internal sounds?
Thanks! The synth melodies are mostly internal sounds. I also imported some drum and melodic samples.
@@Rephazer I'm very tempted to pick the 101 up. My only reservation is lack of tone editing, but as you can bring samples in and the effects sound great it will probably be fine. Great as a sketch pad!
For sure! And with that new Zenology stuff Roland just released I think an editor will soon be available which would make the 101 even more fun
Rephazer yes the Zenology stuff looks really promising. From what I understand this will allow editing on all ZEN-Core synths.
HI just purchased the pack, dont here any sound except for track 4. I was able to get Marc upstairs to work?
Thanks
Hope you got everything working eventually?
Thanks for the demo, how would you say it compares to the Novation Circuit?
I would say it’s much more compared to a Circuit, but both are great ;)
Great tune, what happened to your subscriber count?
Thanks! The counter stopped being of any importance ;)
GREETINGS..... PLEASE, are all the entire drum sounds from the MC 101?
Drum sounds are custom/user samples. You can get the whole project file including drumsamples via my Bandcamp or Gumroad page.
