I love the OP-XY and it's amazing sequencer capabilities, multisampler and overall design, but I will always have a soft spot for the tape workflow of the OP-1. They are completely different regarding workflow so a comparison in that regard is out of the question if you ask me.. Do you rather have a advanced sequencer or the freedom of tape to play with. Amazing work. Thanks for showing us how much this little thing can do! I'm curious if the OP-XY has something similar to Elektron's Overbridge? In other words, can this multi-track record into a DAW via USB? And if not, do you know of a good work-around? I realize that it's possible to complete songs on this device without using a DAW, as you've done here, but I do enjoy refining my jams in Ableton when they're ready!

Hi, great music m8 :) I am a big OP-Z user, i have been making music on it for ages now and i LOVE it. I have just started pairing it with other gear like the KORG NTS-1 mkII and the NTS-3 and it's mad good! I was wondering, if for you as a massive OP-Z user, is it a good upgrade ? are there any newer step components or quality of life features that make it a must get upgrade from my OP-Z ? Thanks a lot! The new multi-sampler, better quality effects and a completely stereo audio engine is worth it for me personally. Thing is.. Just like the OG OP-1 the OP-Z has got it's own sound character which for some is where all the magic is ;)

I do think you can connect both wireless via Bluetooth so that’s something. The arranger is quite advanced and you can sequence/record all kinds of things.

Thanks, The Field packs are not (yet) compatible with the XY. The structure of the audio engine flow is different (send fx instead of insert fx for example) so synth sampler sounds will sound different depending on the used FX. Also OP-1 (field) drum-kit samples won't import like they should, since the drum-sampler also changed. I requested backwards compatibility from the beginning and they said they will work on it after release.. so fingers crossed!
I would like to know how the multi output works. Will I be able to record all tracks separately for mixing and additional production in a daw. Unclear based on the manual.

Thanks a lot! Yeah I gave some tips regarding the arranger that I felt were a bit limited. You now have 100 different mute states instead of 10 so it's great to build a complete song or album even haha
There is now the multi-sampler for that! I made a lot of new presets for it (factory as well as new sound packs which are available at the usual place)

Thanks, there are many differences for sure. Keep in mind that I am still a fresh user and mostly spend time sound/sample designing on it, but out of my head.. You can't deny the better built quality of the XY.. this won't bend over time resulting in dials popping out or having double triggers like the Z unfortunately had problems with. The audio engine is of a much better quality and everything is stereo now. There are more synth and (multi) sampler engines. New (stereo) effects including a even fancier reverb compared to the one on the OP-1 Field. You can allocate voices (polyphony) to channels yourself instead of a pre-set polyphony of voices for the 8 internal audio channels. More sample memory and probably much more differences. I guess there will be videos soon comparing these 2 without a doubt.
@Rephazer yep, but it is all cosmetics.. It has literally none new features. Same synths engines with few parameters, same fx, one lfo... I remember first time i saw op-z i was super excited about workflow. But new opxy it is like skins in Fortnite, looks different but inside the same.

The Tape machine brings some color and a bit of saturation to the sound as well. Check my other XY video if you would like to listen to only the XY. Thank you very much! Audio signal goes from XY to Revox B77 MKII for a bit of tape saturation back to the TX-6 which adds a bit of compression and records straight to a USB pen-drive as 24-bit 48 kHz wave file. Normalised the wave file and uploaded to the web ;)

Thanks. I can't help answer your question, since I only have imported audio into it and record stuff out of it. I am not sure you can even export/render stuff. It's a different workflow, but you can always track out digitally via USB audio.

Thanks, it’s samples from my own collection. But since I had a maximum of 6,7 mb per preset I had to resample things. Ever tried making a convincing sounding piano with 6,7 megabytes available? It’s quite a challenge I can tell you ;)
TE used to claim their shitty bleep bloop boxes were shitty on purpose because limitation breeds creativity. Now we can see they have completely lost the thread and just want to charge you $2000 for $10 worth of keyboard parts. It’s sad to see, but it also couldn’t have happened to bigger scumbags.

I think multi output in case of the XY means that you can select what to output to that physical XY output. so midi or cv/gate or (stereo) audio.

You can send individual audio tracks to the separate out no problem, but Punch fx and tape are like insert fx so I don’t think you can isolate those.
