Vintage Treasure Hunting in the Mountains! | Antique Deals in Winter Storms

  • Hot Deals in Ice Cold Places! We outrun a winter storm to get to two fun wild-west antique centers in two mountain towns 100 miles apart in this video...and it's worth the effort.
    Where the heck is Broadus, Montana? Jane's Weathered Antiques is the antique center for a vast area, and its fun, funky and junky exterior has caught my eye from the van over the years on my drives through this remote town near the Crow Nation Reservation. But this time, it's open!
    Behind the piles of farm junk out front, a really sweet antique shop is revealed upon entry. Art Nouveau inkwells, Roseville candlesticks, quaint kitchenware and winter weight quilts reflect the practical and primitive nature of life here when settlers first came 140 years ago. We find fun deals too, adding to our own inventory of collectible kitchenware, Kewpies and a nice piece of Mary Gregory!
    Our good fortune in the middle of nowhere whets our appetite to go to the next closest antique store...which is 100 miles away! We race to the center of the nation (seriously!) to Belle Fourche, a South Dakota town with a venerable antique shop I did will at 20 years ago. Will they still have good old things worth buying for our serious collectors at our winter shows?
    Turns out you can go back again! Love That Shop is more than a feeling, it's the name of this surprisingly vast compilation of antique and vintage goods that fills a bright store and a dark basement with wide varieties of many collector favorites! Vintage art glass, a dealer sign and some misplaced Floridiana leave with me, and we do a haul at the end that includes some new old stock jewelry with names we know. The middle of nowhere turns out to be the place to buy!

    I lucked out on an antique store relocating sale and picked up an overlooked set of 6 David Anderson silver enameled spoons in the original box for $1!!! Thank you, George; with my new work schedule, I'm not able to catch your lives, but so enjoy the replays! I learn so much from your travels and really admire your energy! Thank you George,
    First,of all love your name,my husband and first born share the same name as you.
    You videos are very informative ,interesting and many times bringing back memories.
    The Tailor coal Iron you came across I vividly remember as a child my dad had one very similar;
    He was a costume Tailor in Italy and in the early sixties that was the tool he used to iron the suits,
    As matter of fact he would have an helper preparing the iron with the coal, when it was very hot then my dad would begin ironing the finish suit.
    Thanks to you ! by bringing back these lovely memories .
    Great Video!

    Hey George! There was an old kerosene pump outside that shop that I liked. Loved the Art Nouveau ink well. There looked like a big chip out of one of the Roseville candle holders. Those EAPG pitchers were nice. I wish I had more space for more of the sets. There was a Power Boys mystery book in that bunch - "The Mystery of the Haunted Skyscraper". I have a set of those books. That was number one in the series. Loved those kerosene lamps...all of them! Those were some really nice shops! Thanks for taking us along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am glad you saw the chip that I overlooked, now I don't feel bad about letting them pass! The kerosene pump also escaped me, it was about 10 degrees outside and I couldn't wait to get in lol. I almost never see Power Boys mysteries and I missed that one too...I needed you there with me for this one! I really would have liked to get the green kerosene lamp...maybe they'll be open next time I'm through there

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Yeah, there was a chip on the top rim of the candleholder on the right. I imagine, at 10 degrees, a kero pump was the last thing on your mind 😂🥶 If I remember correctly, I have a complete set of the Power Boys mysteries. I tend to like the more out-of-the-norm teen mystery books. That green kerosene lamp would definitely be the top pick of all of them!

    What a fun video. Places that go on forever remind me of the old antique and auction house that was right down the street when I was young. I was friends with the owners granddaughter and we used to play his and seek and get list in the maze of antiques. I remember my Mom going to the Auctions upstairs, especially the toy auctions at Christmas where they sold new toys. Mom raised all 7 of us after Mt dad died at 36. So auctions were a budget friendly way to shop in the 1970s.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That must have been so much fun! My parents discovered auctions later, we were thrift store raised until then but the auctions were a great way to furnish our old farm house

Speaking of eucalyptus trees in San Diego, I grew up about an hour north in Lake Forest, which was a bedroom community that arose because when they planted the trees ahead of those laying the railroads they planted the wrong ones! Eucalyptus! 😊

    Hey
    Loretta said that the nuther day you were talking about some kind of regression therapy nonsense and that she's got all the regression that is tolerable with having them two Neanderthals, Buster and Elmer to deal with there already.
    Buster and Elmer got Xeno's DeSoto all decked out for Springtime and Easter. To maintain the surprise of having the Easter Bunny look like it's driving, they covered him up in a nice white sheet, but with them pointy ears, Quintessa and B'shondra in the Hooka Bar and Cafe got ahold of Loretta's.357 that she keeps on hand for nare-do-wells and Mormon missionaries and shot the windshield clean out of that DeSoto.
    Miss Ima Mann is thrilled about the new kitten heels and especially the sweet note that Xeno wrote with them. "Roses are red, busses are yellow. I might be confused, but ain't you a fellow?" She just thinks that he is such a tease.

    On the bottom of Roseville, should it always be a darker color to be authentic and not white?

    Wouldn't the reality of soooo many collections of Pyrex in Antique stores be because Nobody wants the stuff ? It's in all the thrift stores. If it was sought after wouldn't it not be so available ?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to think that too, but actually a lot of dealers store things away and when they get hot, they put out big displays. I’m surprised how things that used to be popular and are less so now seem to just disappear into storage…I never see large displays of early American pattern glass anymore, for example

    I have a question. I have an old Pepsi crate, I can send you a picture of it. I'm wondering if I should sell as is, or just paint it over and make shabby chic cottage crate with it. It's old, has a good patina, I just not sure what to do with it. Thanks in advance for any answer.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not personally a fan of painting over original stuff unless the color is all gone or you had to patch it up somehow anyway. On the other hand, Pepsi crates are mostly not that scarce, unless it's earlier than about the 1960s. I just think there's a lot of plain crates that don't have logos that are better candidates for painting
