I was told by an employee at my Goodwill that they have started checking prices on the better quality items before they put them out. Most of the vintage items that have any value never reach the shelves. I have stopped going to goodwill and I have found a place to donate to that doesn’t charge people that really need help.
Hi Angela if there goodwill is expensive everything you should be visiting San Diego is really expensive all kind of stuff not just vintage stuff no is clothes, shoes 👟 I’m stop to buying it in goodwill ! And try another’s options 😊
I don’t donate to Goodwill anymore because the people who need these items could not afford to buy them. However the top executives at Goodwill make extremely high salaries! I thought it was a place for good will!
🥦I go a step further and don't shop at Goodwill. I shop at local thrift stores that support the local community and their prices reflect their mission, often item are free.
I don't shop Walmart or Amazon. Supporting monopolies destroys mom and pop businesses.
It just blows my mind when I watch and see the prices Goodwill are charging now. They've completely abandoned their mission and would rather destroy what doesn't sell than help the needy. I retired from our local store almost 12 years ago and it was getting bad then, but now, you can buy new clothing at Walmart for what they charge for used. I'm glad you can find and rescue some items from the smashing bins in the back.
Michael Todd would call that vase covered with shells " trashtastic" 😊 I love shopping with you, sweet Dagney. There's something about your voice and the gentle way that you handle items that calms my soul. I love it when Jimmy and Jenny are with you, too.

I love the two cardinal vases for $1.99. Many people buy things with cardinals in memory of past loved ones. I’ve lost both my mom and dad and those would be so nice to have.

I think the ridiculously high prices at Goodwill these days are the reason people are finding so many things at the bins. I cannot see a lot of high priced things selling, even at 50% off, so off to the bins they go. You still found some cute things though 😊Edit- I loved the Homco angels. I actually found some very similar at my local Goodwill before Christmas, but they wanted $6.99 apiece for them. I also loved the Greek pottery plate. I collect Greek pottery, but rarely find it in the wild. I usually end up finding my pieces on eBay. :)
There is less glassware than ever at the bins, but tons that doesn't get bought at Goodwill so makes one wonder where it goes.
I was in my local thrift store today. The prices were crazy! Above retail for sure. I usually shop with a coupon but didn’t have one today. Everything stayed on the shelf.
Hi I’m from Glasgow Scotland and charity shops here charge high prices for donated items ,in some cases they are.charging more than eBay prices.
I work at goodwill. I go through the clothing and the clothing they tell us to pitch for the bins is RIDICULOUS!! Brand new things that have a little fuzz on them that can be rolled off with a roller. So my suggestion is if you want some nice clothing… go to the bins!!

I miss the good old days when thrifting wasn't "cool" and the tiny little thrift shops had amazing things and affordable prices! Every dress I owned was either altered from the thrift store or made by hand by my mom with materials bought from usually thrift store lol.

Sorry I missed your live! Dagny, I totally agree with you on some of these prices. Someone is getting a little wild with the pricing gun lol. I watched another video by someone a while ago, and I forget the percentages, but, they talked about how much of the monthly income of Goodwill is from resellers. There are plenty of other sourcing options out there now. I haven't even shopped at my local GW in a while now. Thanks for sharing with us!!!!

10:43 I’m pretty sure it’s a yarn bowl 😏. Run the yarn through the hole 🕳️ so the ball of yarn stays in the bowl, while your crocheting/knitting.😊
I thought maybe a bowl with holes to put your chopsticks in. Normally the yarn bowls have one kind of opened hole and one regular hole but I’m old so probably wrong. 😊
I am actively looking for two mugs as replacements to two mugs that got lost in moving process somewhere. One mug is a desert scene with the name on it was Ray(it was given to my late husband from his coworkers during his chemo treatment) ; the second mug was an Elvis, I believe the blue Hawaiian one, that was my mom's when she was going through her cancer treatment. Both cups were reallysentimental to me due to they were the last thing i had for both of them.

Your Goodwill's are just catching up with the rest of the country, our's have had over the top pricing for over 6 year's now that's why I quit reselling so now I collect for me now. 😊
I was stumped a few years back. My family was struggling. I was standing with about $50 of stuff. Mix match for a family of 4. Nothing frivolous. I was stressed about the total when an employee pointed to a sign above the register. It was to open a credit card. WHAT?!
That particular GW was also known for the manager setting high prices thinking everything was value and everyone was "ebaying".
Mind you she was also known to call family to check out ALL the goodies before they ever hit the floor.
Just sad.

Oh I still have that book. My daughter loved it. Believe it or not you can still faintly smell the scratch and sniff on it. I read it to my grandson, too…
I didn't read all the comments but the bowl w holes in it is a noodle bowl the holes are to hold the chopsticks 🥢 my daughter has one for her ramen 🍜 😉

We donate items to Goodwill and they sell those items. Costs them nothing and they do nothing to give back to the community! Give your stuff to Salvation Army…they give directly back to those in need!
Central FL GW's are pricing outrageously too. Monday is Senior Day and with the color of the week gives a 60% discount, only day we shop there any longer. We purchase way less even with that and I no longer donate there either. Just because a clothing item still has tags is no reason to up price in mho, they still got it for free. And they closed our bins location

They all have some type of damage, but I think they are still really pretty - and when I see nice repairs I think that someone really loved these enough to fix them.

I used to sell Party Lite and if I remember correctly that Party Lite set was valued in the early 2000s was valued at around $69.95, but I could be off by a few dollars.
I collect like the tea rose canisters and that strawberry soup mug was really nice !

Hi Dagney, I think those blue goblets were Fitz & Floyd. They are using stickers only to brand their items now. My goodwill also raised prices so much I don't even go there. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy them.

Omg I was yelling at the screen lol the blown glass Mexican confetti canisters would have been a major score! The set can go for $200 for 3🤦♀️ they were in the packed cart of your favorite goodwill.
The cost to ship all of those made me not want to get them. They were very pretty!
@@FlyingPigThrifts I don't understand why some sellers are so afraid of shipping. There are so many other carriers you can use other than USPS and still use eBay shipping labels (which also saves $$$). You can sometimes ship FedEx or UPS for $1-$2 a pound. I reuse packing materials, get tape with the $25 allowance from my eBay store. I buy clear tape for my labels only so it lasts. I just found a Murano vase that weighs 10#. It's stunning and worth at least $200. I know I can ship it for under $25. Why would I leave it behind just because it's heavy? I've been an ebay seller for over 25 years and I've never been afraid of shipping anything. I paid $5 for a large collage that was amazing...known artist. Sold for $1,000. I think it cost me around $30 to ship. As long as the profit is there don't worry about shipping. I have stopped selling things under $10, even if you got it free between fees and shipping, it's not worth it.

Whoever is in charge of goodwill pricing has lost their mind!!!! I used to shop there all the time. I bought a lot of clothes for my 3 sons there. Their prices were great. We did not have a lot of money. We lived paycheck to paycheck. Goodwill is not for the average person anymore. Now I go to a couple of small thrift stores in my area that have decent prices. Shame on Goodwill. Need to change the store name to - We charge a fortune and don’t care about the poor anymore!! ---If people would stop shopping there they would maybe lower their prices!! 🌟
As far as I'm concerned, they are not a charity anymore. It is my understanding that they are a franchise now. A franchise is not a charity. And their executives make hundreds and hundreds of thousands. To me that's not a charity. I support my local cancer thrift store.

I found two decorator plates with a price of $2.49 each on the front sticker but one had a sticker on the back of $5.49. The cashier asked the manager and she said both were $5.49 each. Needless to say, I left them both behind. They wouldn't even honor the one with the single sticker at $2.49.
Maine Goodwills honor the lower price per their policy.

My stores are asking to much. They are are asking one dollar for empty puenut butter jar. It's crazy. I will not pay almost new prices for used stuff.

I too have found Goodwill prices so high; I'm lucky if I leave buying one item.
I think the stores are checking Ebay listings, but not sold comps, and then pulling items to be listed on Goodwill's online store. The good items in the stores are priced too high for resellers. The only way to beat them is to know your best selling brands and things of value that they think aren't worth anything. Just my opinion. In my Goodwill, all the shoes are junky, cheap plastic or, they are in terrible condition. I like to buy shoes for myself and occasionally for resale, but right now, there's nothing that I would put on my feet. Only leather goes on my feet. Been this way for weeks, and getting worse. I'm going to start going to more estate sales, then when the weather gets nice, I will do more yard sales even if I have to go out of town to find the good ones.
Could be the result of not being able to find and afford good leather shoes 😊

It's a good thing you don't go to the Maryland Goodwill's. You'd really fall over if you saw their prices! They're really ridiculous! Looks like PA prices are starting to catch up.
I no longer donate to Goodwill. I opt to donate to either Salvation Army or a mom and pop thrift store, where people can afford to shop

Hi Dagny 🌹 so many resellers don't give a 2nd thought to picking up Cardinals items. I love Cardinals ❤️ PERSONALLY I think resellers and videos have driven up some of the pricing. Yes they are donated to them But the overhead to run a store is crazy. And they do help people. So if you can still make $ on the items go for it. I see videos and resellers spend alot on glassware and such at antique stores etc then see them not want to give higher prices at Goodwill .I GET IT ,IF it's chipped or damaged. But I look up items that get passed up and some things sell for a good profit. Hearing the ones stocking and people looking at things is cringy. I don't know how everything isn't damaged. When I go into a Goodwill I carefully pick it up and set it back down. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU DAGNY. You are careful when you are looking. Good luck finding your bargains🌹
