TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ABRSM’s metronome mark for this piece is 126bpm, which is quite quick, but ABRSM’s footnotes in the Grade 5 exam book state that students may prefer a slower tempo, for example,116bpm. For purposes of illustration, this piece was recorded somewhere around 120bpm, which seems a good tempo. Some players might like to make use of some rubato (looseness of time) but generally speaking it needs to move along without dragging too much.
Dynamics are straightforward, but watch out for the numerous slurred pairs of notes in the left-hand part. I tended to play all chords on beats 2 and 4 slightly lighter, in order to create a playful and relaxed sounding accompaniment. Use of sustain pedal is debatable - I used it very occasionally, but be careful not to over-do it. There is no rit. at the end, or any other slowing down markings, although it might feel natural to slightly pull back on the tempo on those final few left -hand notes. (A matter of personal taste perhaps)

a very good demo. I'm glad to see ABRSM start choosing Joe Hisaishi's music in the grade 5 & 8 25-26syl. (everyone favourites Japan anime pop/film music by the biggest Japanese anime master - Hayao Miyazaki's works - Totoro 龍貓 & Porco Rosso 紅の豚), besides old standard of classical piano music only. Students have much more fun on practicing piano in the 25-26 syl. haha😂
