- JAPAN vs FRANCE | GOLD MEDAL MATCH | Highlights | Men's VNL 2024. France will play in front of their home fans at the Paris 2024 Games in a few weeks as not only the defending Olympic champions, but also the reigning Volleyball Nations League gold medalists after they triumphed in the sixth edition of the tournament, which came to an end on Sunday, in Łódź.
The French completed their VNL 2024 campaign in a strong way, taking down the second-best team in the FIVB World Rankings, Japan, 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23) in a packed Atlas Arena. Hosts Poland finished third and completed the podium.
Opposite Jean Patry was a difference-maker for France in the gold medal match, leading all scorers with 24 points (20 kills, three blocks, one ace). Kevin Tillie played a big role off the bench, tallying 13 points, while fellow outside hitter Yacine Louati added another 11.
“Japan are always tough opponents,” Patry celebrated. “They are very skilled, extremely patient and they dig everything. We try to be patient when we play them, but it’s always a challenge to remain focused the entire time. Winning the VNL is excellent in our preparation for the Paris Games, which is our main goal for the season. Our goal was to make it to the semifinals, so there’s nothing better than winning gold. We have a lot of guys who can come in and help the team and that’s one of our main strengths.”
On the Japanese side, captain Yuki Ishikawa had another excellent performance, leading the team with 17 points (all in kills), followed by opposite Yuji Nishida, who registered 11. Fellow opposite Kento Miyaura also got to double digits, coming off the bench to score ten points.
“We’re very happy that we made it to the final, but today it was a tough match,” Ishikawa reflected. “Congrats to France for winning the title. Playing in the final was a great experience for us and it will help as we prepare for the Olympics.”

Man the height difference is really hurting Japan
It's not necessarily the height. Where some Japanese players are crazily fast, some french blockers like Le Goff are kinda heavy and slow at some moments. It's mostly experience. Just a reminder that no one on the Japanese team is older than 30- starters at least (Sekita the oldest). Japan proved that they can beat any team, and they can prove it again. They wouldn't have made it to finals in the first place if height was a problem for them. They just were reminded they still have room to grow as a team. A little humility isn't harmful sometimes, they are young, they climbed at top level very fast, now they need experience. They're not yet the veterans that France is.

i dont undestand the japans setter, why is he not sending more passes towards nishida... he has so much better ways to fight off the blockers like come on man. oh and also ishikawa outside hits were so crazy god damn
if the setter only ever set to nishida then he'd receive more blockers on average. if they keep him spiking as often as the other players then it keeps the blockers spread out more (barring reads or good reactions from the blockers). it's purely a mental reason
There is nothing like physical advantage in sports. Whatever u have, it will have its advantages. So france clearly played well this time. All teams are considered equal in sports. Dont start any blame game and spoil the game. Or they can create categeroies based on heights if it's considered that major an issue. Thanks.

Can someone explain why the crowd was booing every french serve ? Like did the French do something special or was the crowd simply not fair-play ?
France beat poland ( the host nation) in the semis. It's just lack of sportmanship of the polish fans. But it truly gives them a bad reputation and puts the volley ball fans in a somewhat bad light. That's a shame but some people just never get wise, it's an everyday statement.
