When you see a pile of Return to Ravnica era cards, but none of the uncommons that are worth something from those sets (like he said, Boros Charm,.. Rapid, Vandal) , when you see a few masters sets commons, but again, lots of commons and uncommons in those sets worth $1-$4, but none hanging out still. Picked over tighter than those repacks you get from the dollar store.
Thanks for serving as a reminder why the average person shouldn't buy random collections. Aside from the occasional extremely lucky story you hear about, most people aren't going to to hit anything valuable, much less original duals or random reserved list cards. And even if you strike out, these videos are still entertaining because it's fun to hear you talk about the cards and share stories. 👍
If ur an average player and buying collections. It's gotta be for the fun of it, and u gotta assume ur wasting all that money on bulk. That's the only way I could justify reg people's buying them (outside of like getting to see it before u buy it and kinda look through some stuff)
That's a good idea I should buy some bulk stuff to make a deck since I only have a dragon precon and dogmeat fallout deck, and I mixed them for a decent draw/enchant deck. But yeah I need more cards just overall!

Over time you get a lot of cards and you and up with a decent collection rather than buying a picked through one. If you want older cards, buy them as singles. I bought a lotr bundle and got an orcish bowmasters, last March of the ents, and 3 nazgul. I bought a phyrexia all will be one bundle and only got 4 cards over $5. It's got that boom potential, but at least you get a box, a die, and the foundation of a collection.

When i used to buy and sell collections and bulk, one trick is to separate out all old border (Pre Mirrodin) and sell that in lots on ebay, it does tend to go for more than bulk modern border. Also, creature tokens in bulk are worth a lot more than bulk commons and uncommons, but the filler cards aren't.

Technically Jeweled Amulet could be used in any deck that proliferates, you still can only make the color of Mana used to initially add the charge counter, but you can get multiple charges on it.

The only thing I think you missed that was kind of interesting was a White Bordered (4th or 5th ed) Nevinyrral's Disk. It's a card that see's play in commander somewhere.
I've found cards with letters/initials on them like that too. I've been told they were parts of draft league decks, where players had to give up cards in their decks if they lost (sort of like ante I guess) and replace them with cards drafted (or acquired otherwise) from packs. So the letters/intitals were there to mark whose deck the cards were in throughout the league. Might be the case here too?
I remember an Arena format where you just opened some packs and then drafted against your opponent each match. This was the original Arena in the late 90s, which was a continuous competitive format where each season was different and you played other ranked people at your LGS and had a judge record the results which you could follow online (so novel!). In this format you combined and shuffled your cards, flipped 4, and then drafted alternating 1-2-1 until the end before building for the match. We never wrote on the cards but you did have to register your deck on these copied sheets (which was normal for competitive limited events) and everybody had to leave their decks at the shop.
the markings on the cards might be from an event like a PT draft in which players get opened boosters and the cards are marked to avoid cheating. Usually it's just a stamp but maybe in that event they also marked to which side to pass the cards Right or Left (R & L)
Cards are marked manually like that during draft events containing prizes at my LGS, but we're quite a smaller location. Considering a major event only pulls in 8-12 people here.

Spend 20 for it and did get my money back several times over because while it was almost entirely common/uncommon like this set, it had some uncommon and commons that have got valuable over the years including Mindcrank. Also it still had a few random rares including a few planewalkers.
Embercleave, Lizard Blades, Two Handed Axe and Eater of Virtue all seem to have power crept Fireshrieker. However apart from Embercleave, most equipments have been power crept unless in niche gameplans.
Recently was visiting Israel, and in Tel Aviv they have a store called Freak-legendary place. In the corner, they have a giant box of bulk cards, and store's policy is 1 shekel (~2 cents) per card. At the same time, I ordered online a card called Tablet of the guilds. Nothing special, just decent life gain for any 2 color deck. 23 cents. While order was processed, I've found the card in the bulk pile, and just left it there, as I already ordered one. A week past, and that ordered got canceled, as the card wasn't found. I then spend multiple weekends searching for that uncommon, yet I found 20$ natural ordered and some more 5-8 dollar cards.
NLM nobody loves me the tragedy of the new maker home and their broken family. I doubt that’s what NLM stands for here but I’ve spent so much time thinking about petscop I couldn’t not have it ring in my ears here

The Free Chips and Cookies probably came from one of those bubble gum machine mystery packs that a lot of game stores do to get rid of bulk rares, and one of the cards was probably marked by the LGS and if you got it you could turn it in for Free Chips and Cookies.

I'm actually going to keep that Jabari's Influence and jam it in some decks. I'm not sure if it will stick but it seems interesting enough (and unique enough) to test out at least.
I'm only halfway into the video at this point, but the Batwing Brune is worth a few $$. There's actually quite a lot of pricey commons and uncommons from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block that a lot of people overlook. The letters on the cards could be stamped cards from GP/Pro Tour drafts?

I also keep loads of draft-chaff just for nostalgic value. Sure I actually have quite a lot of high value cards, but if I'd take those out and just sell the chaff, it would look very similar to this.

I bought a box of cards off eBay years ago. Around 200 ish had some decent stuff inside. The kicker was on top randomly was a beta shivan dragon and a legends juzam djinn making it well worth it.

'Free Chips Or Cookies' was almost certainly used by an LGS as a prize or gift for a player to redeem later. I'd bet that most of the collection came from an LGS, based on the type of bulk. That 'N L' text on a bunch of cards in different sharpies reeks of LGS draft league markings too.
that free chips and cookies is an ULTRA MYTHIC,(OMG and its signed) you have to play the card for this game stopping effect to happen. (INSTANT DRAW - able to raid the hosts pantry for unlimited chips and or cookies!) how can you put a monetary price on this card, its priceless!
I suspect that the writing has something to do with a FLGS running some kind of special event. The "Free chips or cookies" is probably a prize you get if you pull that card in a repacked draft of some kind. The other writing looks like different people with different pens wrote the letters, so maybe initials. Maybe some kind of special extra rules where you need to put your initials on a card you play and at the end some sort of score or points are awarded based on which ones you have in your deck at the end.
I suspect this collection has already been picked through as the modern event deck is missing the most valuable card in Sword of Feast and Famine.

'Free Chips Or Cookies' was almost certainly used by an LGS as a prize or gift for a player to redeem later. I'd bet that most of the collection came from an LGS, based on the type of bulk. That 'N L' text on a bunch of cards in different sharpies reeks of LGS draft league markings too.
It might mean they go into several decks that had and marked them as such? I dunno

I suspect that the writing has something to do with a FLGS running some kind of special event. The "Free chips or cookies" is probably a prize you get if you pull that card in a repacked draft of some kind. The other writing looks like different people with different pens wrote the letters, so maybe initials. Maybe some kind of special extra rules where you need to put your initials on a card you play and at the end some sort of score or points are awarded based on which ones you have in your deck at the end.
