    Thank you so much Mike for making these real estate videos, I'm retired and am a bird and critter photographer and never did real estate photography interest me. My son is a builder and wants me to photograph the houses he builds, so I'm doing the same thing I did to became a good bird critter photographer, watch hundreds and hundreds of hours of TH-cam videos to learn how to photograph real estate. Your videos are easy to understand and precise and to the point. I'm now a subscriber, thanks again!

    Mike, great video, thanks. I just purchased a used but hardly used Benro 3xm. Trying to figure the balancing but that is off subject. I use my Sony for real estate photography and have been getting requests for videos. I am 80 and I know it will be a challange to learn video. I noticed my video settings had changed some settings for photography. WB. Focusing not sure what else yet. I did place my setting for video in S1. I subscribed to your channel some time ago and fouind them to be very usful and easy to understand.

    Great video with some very good points. My only negative is that your vertical walls are not straight, I know this is sometimes not possible particularly with crane style shots. I always make sure my camera is level on the gimbal before I start and I am constantly checking it throughout the shoot.

      @@InsideRealEstatePhotography Fair enough we all have our styles but for me personally I never give agents still or videos with walls that aren't vertically straight as a sign of professionalism. As I said, it isn't always possible with video and if I am not happy I will straighten in post.

    Hey Mike, great video! I'm using an older Canon for now. For the video resolution I have the option to choose either ALL-I (low compression) which apparently offers better image quality and is better for colour grading, but has much larger files. Whereas IPB (high compression) still offers good image quality but takes up 3 times less space, which would you recommend? Apparently for Sony users it's XAVCS = IPB, XAVCS-I = ALL-I
    Also for my resolution 1920x1080 only goes to 30fps, whereas 1280x720 goes to 60fps, which would you recommend here?

    When changing from 16 to 35mm do you shoot the whole house at one focal length first and then come back around getting the details with the 35mm? Seems like that would be the best option so you're not having to rebalance the gimbal every time you change focal length. Or is that even an issue?

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mike,
    Your point about shooting with a wide lens but not too wide really stuck out to me. I shoot on Sony APS-C and wonder if you think a Sigma 16mm would be adequate before shelling out more cash on a Sony 10-18mm lens.

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may find it a bit of a struggle with 16mm to get wide enough shots in some scenarios. It would definitely be a little difficult.

    • @raydub
      @raydub 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InsideRealEstatePhotography understandable! I was considering a Laowa 9mm lens which would be 13.5mm with the crop factor, but the flexibility of the Sony 10-18mm may be the better investment. Thanks for your response!

    Should you not use an Aperture of F6 or more? Why is it at a 2.8 for a wide focus setting?

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re using an aperture that high for video inside then your iso would have to be extremely high which would result in a noisy, less quality image. You can do it for photos on tripod since you can have a really slow shutterspeed and it doesn’t matter.

    • @thediegomgarcia
      @thediegomgarcia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InsideRealEstatePhotography oh yeah I understand that. But for video specifically why a 2.8 when your subject is so wide? Is the trick to focus on the wall and everything will come out looking focus?

    If anyone knows of a great hard case for the Ronin SC where I can leave it adjusted/balanced for my camera. Right now I use a soft camera bag. It fits in so I can just pull it out and attach the camera quickly with only a balance check, then off to filming. But, it really has no protection this way which makes me wonder how long it will be before I accidentally drop or crush it.

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I’m not sure about that particular set up. If you look at the specs for the gimbal it should tell you what it’s payload can be up to. You should be able to find your lens and camera weight on line as well. Just make sure it’s well within the limit Of the gimbal payload. If it’s pushing it then I would say size up because it think these companies over estimate the payload capability if these gimbals. Better to be way under the limit then close to the max.

As you say, there are loads on balancing a gimbal, but not so many of best settings, especially for real estate. I am really having problems trying to mimic a slider shot with my Ronin S.

    So I live in upstate NY. And I’m trying to get into real estate videos I’m a freelance videographer with some experience in shooting music videos. The agents in my area are old school and don’t really have social media. So what should bd my pitch when looking for agents to shoot videos for?

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most agents will go to their photographers for videos so it’s very difficult to only do real estate videos. Doing photos is your in. All agents need photos first and foremost and will add on videos if they need so my suggestion would be to get into the photo side of things as well and land clients that way. Don’t want to sound discouraging but unfortunately that’s nature of the business. I’m not really aware of anyone that solely does video for real estate.

    What f stop is recommended for shooting real estate videos with a 16-35 lens?

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re gonna need as much light as you can get so I’m typically shooting f/2.8 indoors.

    • @shreddykrueger9171
      @shreddykrueger9171 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InsideRealEstatePhotography Does that still get everything in perfect focus or are you limited because of the shallow DOF? I've heard 16-35mm f2.8 sweet spot for sharpness is f8

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shreddykrueger9171 it would be great to shoot at f/8 but indoors with not much light your ISO very well may be 25,600 or higher at that aperture which is going to give you a not very good result most likely. I shoot at the highest aperture I can while maintaining a reasonable iso. I’m comfortable pushing my iso a bit especially with the a7siii which handles that quite well. So a lot of times I’m shooting at f/4 or f/5.6 if I can manage it. F/8 on rare occasions if the home is super bright.

    very nice video! Very very informative! but I think you didn't say anything about aperture except setting it manually. What is your typical F stop when recording interiors? I suppose you change it depending on the size of the room? But what are your most used f stops?

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks so much for the kind words! Interiors im typically shooting at f/2.8 or F/4 as there’s usually not a lot of light coming in. My shutter speed is staying put and I’m typically using just my iso to adjust exposure because my aperture is already wide open.

    • @rubenblythmartin
      @rubenblythmartin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InsideRealEstatePhotography I watched all of your Real Estate videos, loved them! Hopefully I can start my Real Estate video and photo business soon 😄 and your videos are helping a ton. And oh that's a low aperture, although the lens ir pretty wide. But I'm sure at that aperture you might get things out of focus if you are not careful enough. I suppose you set focus on the middle of the room?

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rubenblythmartin So glad to hear they are helping! Yes, the lens being wide definitely helps. I usually focus on something toward the back of the room and that usually does the trick!

    What if I wanna camera and a gimbal for FPV RE vlog? Like walk around the house inside/outside and talk about it. No scenes, no little clips, just whole journey around the property in one shot? DJI Osmo + mobile phone is pretty good setup for that, but not in low light. I'm afraid manual focusing and exposure/wb will make much harder to shoot.. Ideal would be "turn it on and record with proper exposure/focusing automatically", but is it really possible with proper camera? Not an iPhone or GoPro)

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography
      @InsideRealEstatePhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, totally possible with a proper camera! You would just have to set it up properly i.e.auto ISO, auto focus, auto balance etc... Most gimbals have a "selfie" mode where it will spin around and face you.

    2 things id like to note. I tried the Ronin SC with the same camera and lens and it was too heavy for it. I switched to Weebill Lab S and it helped.
    The other thing I see that verticals aren't straight in quite a few shots. I was always under the impression that's not very professional. But what do I know I'm just starting out.

    • @InsideRealEstatePhotography

      That’s true about the verticals in photos. When you’re shooting moving video with a handheld gimbal there’s no way you’re going to have straight verticals. I pay no mind to it for video.

I always face the problem of a small space, the rooms on the yachts are very small and especially the bathrooms. Really difficult to film them. Will it fit for filming GoPro 9? GoPro give wider panorama and good stabilization during yacht trips. Share please your professional opinion. Thank you.
