Doug Armstrong said in an interview, that he wants the Blues to at least remain competitive. His idea is that putting the young players in meaningful games will be best for their development. Fowler's contract is up after next year, and Army thinks that the up and coming prospects on D are still a couple of years away from making an impact. This isn't a move to get them over the hump, it's a move to keep them competitive for the betterment of the young guys who are currently playing NHL games.
Honestly thats pretty smart, teams needs to understand that going full tank and trading every piece away and replacing it with only youth doesn't help build experience. Buffalo is the youngest team by far and the youth they have don't know how to win.
I think Cam Fowler is way underrated because he's been playing for the Ducks all these years. If you watch how he plays, his skating, stick play, etc. he still looks like an upper echelon defenseman. I think he's a solid piece on the Blues defense.
oh yea if Leddy wasn't coming back there is no way the blues were going to be able stay competitive all season playing Suter 23 min a night. getting too old to play that much for 82 games.
Essentially a zero risk move unless Biakabatuka or the 2nd rounder become stars down the line. Kind of a move that had to be done to stabilize the backend and can hopefully push them into a wildcard spot. I'd rather the kids get a taste of the playoffs, even if it's just 5 or 6 games than bottom out and hope magic beans turn into something special. Guerin is doing it the right way in Minnesota. People don't seem to realize mid to low market teams can't afford to have 5-7 year gaps in playoff appearances and expect to sustain in a healthy way. It's just bad all around business for a franchise.
@@FrenchToast_28 The guy has played over 1000 games in the NHL. The majority in the top 4 and top pairing in his prime.. What does your NHL resume look like??
The trade with the Blues had everything to do with the amount of minutes the blue line was averaging a night. They had four D men averaging the most minutes in the league. Army was proactive, he knew it would eventually break down either Faulk, Sutter, Leddy, or Parayko….
Tell us you know nothing about the Blues without saying as much. When you have your top 3 defensemen playing as many minutes as they were and 2 prospect rookie defensemen required to play so many minutes just to survive, picking up Fowler makes total sense. He's played 2 games for the Blues, is +2 and played almost 24 minutes last night and looked great in both games. He's a solid defense who can eat up minutes, which is exactly what the Blues need. And, army is going to make moves to make the team better, their only 2 points out of a playoff spot at this point. Adding Fowler is a great move, he's very solid and his numbers weren't terrible even playing on crap Ducks teams for years.
Watch the channel long enough and you will see the guy doesnt know or watch near enough hockey to talk about some of these things. The fact he then doesnt research these questions and just goes off the cuff is mind blowing.. NO GROWTH
one defenseman army needs to get rid of is faulk. he is not good anymore and people think so full of him. he’s adding to losses and he’s not doing much. the opponent team scores 3/4 of the time when he’s on ice. just the other day, he left the net open for someone to score. he’s no help to a team like the blues who could play to their full potential…
I’ll have to start watching more Sens games to see how they play, because that stat reminds me of how the Avs won the cup in 22. Decent goaltending and a lights out offense
Pretty sure the Cam Fowler trade was due to (A) the cost of aquisition versus the gain of veteran leadership and (B) reduce the ridiculous ice time that some of the Blues D are averaging per game (especially SUTTER).
Rantanen would be the best forward probably 75-90% every other teams. We’ll have to see if he wants loyalty or if someone bids even higher where he can be the main focus and not overshadowed behind Mac and Makar
@@Cedisdead a multi-time 100 point scorer that's put up 55 goals before, and is on pace for another 100+ point season? And he's not even the best forward on his team? Yeah I'd say so

He got stuck with Shattenkirk quite a lot who was overall really not good in Anaheim. Be had a pretty elite season not long ago. But cronin has been pretty unimpressive in how he leads our D. Either way leddy is prolly done for they ear and played his last game as a blue. Fowler is a stop gap until the kids get here, and a vet to lean on should we actually make the playoffs. Also 20+ minutes a game for suter is way too much, fowler eats minutes. Good trade.
Ullmark with his 3rd shutout of the season so far surpasses his previous season high in shutouts, and the season isnt halfway through yet. If he keeps up this performance, he could have 7-8 shutouts by seasons end, which is how many hes had in all previous seasons combined
Funnily enough, i bet on the sens winning the presidents trophy purely based on their record with average or better goaltending+getting ullmark. It is insane, not to mention their record with stu, norris, and pinto all being healthy was something to be intrigued by.

see, also just trading P.O joseph too from the blues defense also isn’t much. glad we got fowler but i wish we got rid of someone else *cough faulk cough*. he doesn’t do anything for our team. he just sits there and lets pucks go to net. he is NOT a good defender. as a blues fan, i wish he gets traded because i can’t stand him. also, the blues defense itself isn’t good. i’ve never liked our defense after the stanley cup. i liked dinner but we got rid of him. but, in all seriousness, faulk has got to go.

Im going to be very honest... I did not expect us to get a second for Cam Fowler. This was a trade that should have happened 3 or 4 years ago. Cam keeping a spot occupied that should have been filled by one of the young guns. It led to guys like Olen Zellweger, Jackson LaCombe and Pavel Mintyukov stepping in and out of the line up on rotation which hurts their development, which should be the number 1 priority for the Ducks. Im still very concerend with the Ducks though. Players are not taking the leaps they should. Mason McTavish was expected to really step up and solidify himself as a leader and second line center but he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. The Travis Zegras injury is a huge loss, the guy was playing some of the best hockey of his career before he went down The Ducks dont have a talent like Celebrini or Bedard on their roster either (hopefully Beckett Senecke becomes that talent). The rebuild does not look like it's ending soon
Detroit native living in St Louis here. Detroit looks ridiculous. Kane seems to be coasting. Goal tending has been so off with the recent injuries. There's no effort being made on the red wings to get goals other than Larkin and it shows. What they need is to stop signing people like Kane and invest in someone who's going to be consistent. Perron was that for them last year. I would have loved to keep him instead of Kane. STL looks good but the fans here seem delusional about how bad they still are in the league, especially since every blues fan is still fapping to the 1 stanley cup in 2019 where they started the run from the bottom and won. It's like a "NEVER COUNT THEM OUT WE COULD MAKE ANOTHER RUN" mindset, rather than realizing 2019 was a freak accident.
Age isn't some switch that gets flipped in the summer and a guy comes back a few months later and is just worse at hockey. Kane is playing the same "lazy" style he played last season, and he had a full summer to rest and train this time around. It's not age, it's the way this team has been coached to play. I fully believe that Lalonde's system is ineffective and hampers players like Kane who aren't skilled defensively. He needs good players around him at this point to make an impact, and guys like Copp, Compher, Tarasenko and Rasmussen aren't good enough. Kasper's energy and grit needs to be there, and I personally think Berggren's hockey IQ and skill would work perfectly with Kane, but Lalonde is terrified of giving young players more responsibility. It's why he doesn't dare play Albert Johansson more than 13 minutes despite Johansson looking pretty much fine every time he plays.
