  • RVing in the Florida Keys: We drive to Key West and take the Yankee Freedom ferry to the Dry Tortugas National Park. While there we explore Fort Jefferson, walk on the moat wall and do some snorkeling. I Key west we visit Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park and its best kept secret, the best and southernmost beach in Key West. We also participate in the sunset celebration at Mallory Square, and party along Duval Street.
    We travel aboard a 2015 Winnebago Micro Minnie 1706FB travel trailer. You are more than welcome to tag along in our travels by subscribing to this channel.

    I camped for 3 days in the Dry Tortugas. Sweet isolation after the tour boats leave. It's just you, the island and the ocean. At night, it's kinda spooky.

    Great video as usual Robert but no thanks to this tourist trap, 160.00 a night at Boyds and the scenery is only ok+, everything is overpriced, parking, restaurants, museums, no boon docking, nothing free and no parking spots for your RVs in town. l will take the midwestern USA and western coastlines any day over this cramped area.

    A lot of people don't realize that Key West isn't known for it's beaches like the rest of Florida. It is pretty though.

    Have been to Key West several times now. Always wanted to go to Fort Jefferson; but they charge like 170.00. I have yet to justify that sort of expense. Fort Zachary Taylor only cost 6.00 or so. Yea I know it is a 2 1/2 hour boat ride out to the Dry Tortugas, but you would think they could cut the price some. They give the residents of Monroe County a discount. They likely do not even go out there. The price is very disappointing..

    PS.....holy crap...there is a ton of chemtrails sitting over Key West. RE: the service.....You probably look local vs tourist....I am noticing more and more the service, no matter where I go is getting worse and worse. I just walked out of a fitness/shoe store 2 days ago for the exact same reason. 15 minutes and the guy never looked at us once. $600 worth of running shoe lost sales for them.

    One of these days I'll probably run into you at Mallory Square. Too bad about the poor service, but don't be too hard on them; it turns out that "hurricane brain" is a real thing; a feeling of being in a mental fog after a stressful event like a hurricane can last for several months. The people working there are probably exhausted from all the cleanup work and are most likely doing their best. All the same, it's too bad they aren't showing their customers the proper appreciation for supporting their business. Hopefully they'll do better as things return to normal.

    Hi turistas, Sunset Key islland is officially called Tank Island on nautical charts. It had two large oil tanks for refueling Navy ships until they gave it to the city for a park. Which did not happen. The cottage business is owned by Mike Walsh's Opal company, whose ship dock gets much profit from giant cruise ships of 3,000 passengers. The locals do NOT like massive ships docking in KW which flood Duval Street with day trippers who patronize tee shirt shops, jewelry stores, expensive cosmetic ripoff scams and there are so many of them they block traffic and do not obey the Do Not Walk traffic signals. Key Westers voted to limit the size of cruise ships but Mr Walsh paid a million dollars into Florida Governor DeSantis political fund to get him to approve a law that would overturn the citizens right to vote to control bad things happening to their cities!! Although he owns four hotels in KW and a cruise ship dock, he is bad neighbor and hurts the place that is earning his income. He punishes the lifestyles of the locals for his own profit motives.
    Do us a favor and stay somewhere else and teach him that his bad behavior will cost him some money ;=] Maybe then he will listen to us when we say "Get some smaller cruise ships and help the reef survive."
    P.s. It is not worth $700 a night, free sunsets and good chow is available anywhere else in KW ;=}

    Hi! I am visiting Dry Tortugas & the southernmost point next month...I had a few questions
    1) Is there anywhere to store your belongings while on the island? I have a medical device that needs to be taken off when in the water and do not want to risk it getting damaged or stolen.
    2) Are we required to stay with the group and go on the guided tour?
    3) What time and day would you recommend stopping by for a picture with the southernmost point buoy?
    4) Do you think this trip is worth it if I only primarily want to go for snorkeling and to get underwater videos?

      @TravelingRobert  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there's anywhere to store you belongings on the island or the boat. Maybe someone at the boat can help you out with that being medical supplies. You are allowed to bring a small cooler.
      You are free to wander on the island at your leisure although they have an optional guided tour
      I would go to southernmost point in the morning, less waiting time, better light
      I don't know if it is worth it just for that. There are certainly many other places for snorkeling in the Keys like the John Pennekamp coral reef in Key Largo

    Have been to Miami for 2 years in a row for spring break, went snorkeling at John Pennekamp State Park, and to Key West. I might go again, does anyone know how long the boat ride takes to get to the Dry Tortugas?

      Now that you mention it I did not see many kids there, but it is totally safe, as long as you stay away from Duval street at night

    We finally went to Zachary Taylor this past March. The guy at the gate only charged us for one person on the scooter. After checking out the Fort stayed at the beach until told to leave after sunset. Another great spot for sunset photos and watching cruise ships leave KW, but very surprised that they turn off the water so we could not wash off our feet before leaving. Hope we can make it to Dry Tortugas this winter. Thanks again for your great videos.

      Wow, we had planned to check out your "former: favorite place on our next trip, now... Not sure about the food, but Cowboy Bills has a Mexican restaurant that is suppose to be great and I know that Bill is about great service. This past spring he cancelled out our bill because his bartender got confused. She made me a great drink, but was sure I had bought others. I was more than willing to pay for the drink and others we had, but not the extras, but Bill said no, it was all on him. Been to other places in KW and they know they have 1000 others so tough luck when they make a mistake, but not Bills. Bill did tell the bartender she had to call it a day, it was St Patrick's day and I guess she accepted a few too many drinks from her customers. Because of Bill being back to running his namesake bar, we will always go back and encourage others to do the same. He is also known for his Wednesday nights when the ladies drink free from 9pm to 11pm and then "Sexy Bull riding" contest starts. He also just opened a country themed strip club. Really felt for you could see the disappointment from the poor service you received.

      +forry100 I'm sure the were stressed out post hurricane, and the slower than normal business. I have to really go swim and snorkel at that Fort Zachary beach. New bucket list item.
