So glad i was at this show, video just dont do it justice, but very thankful this guy shared it...its funny i can still remember this show like it was yesterday ...beautiful night and time in heavy metal
Man those were the days. Does anyone remember on the old superjoint ritual website when Phil used to check in from the road with lengthy diaries? Could have been on this tour. Still have the work shirt and hoodie around somewhere
@@figsthrash66 yes the first time they played in San Antonio. It was at Sunset Station on June 27, 2002. Down had played the same venue a few weeks earlier to a packed house. Almost nobody was there for the Superjoint show
I never gave superjoint too much credit but man they can fucking BANG!! That is some headbanging melt your face off shit. I wish some songs had a little more "space" but i dont think that's the point of the band or the genre. Fuck Your Enemy has some of the best groove ever, damn
Did anyone hear the new Superjoint song? to me it doesn't sound like classic Superjoint. Idk if it's the way it's mixed or whatever but I listened to it like 10 times and I still don't think it sounds like any of this good stuff here. It's called sociopathic herd delusion.
I agree it doesn't sound like the first two albums. Its a different band and Phil's songwriting has changed. To me it sounds like a combination of superjoint and the Illegals (which it is I guess). It has a lot of the stop/start type of songs like on the Illegals album in which Phil seemed to intentionally cut off any chance of a headbanging groove. But on Caught up In the Gears he allows some moments of headbanging especially on the title track and Circling the Drain among others. I think the biggest difference is the loss of Joe Fazzio. He helped produce the first two SJ records and his drumming is the driving force on those records. Its way up front and he does a lot of intense things with his blast beats, d-beats, and drum rolls sometimes all within the same stanza. New drummer Blue can do those things but he had to be told to do them they don't seem to come from a natural place. And #3 its hard to really hear Blue's drumming because he's mixed so low. It may be awesome but its hard to tell...
Todd Bryant totally agree on everything, I mean now that the whole album is out and I've soaked it up, it's good but I like the way the first two records sound better, I mean the alcoholic and Fuck your enemy are classics man! I don't like how the drums are low in the mix, today and tomorrow sounds exactly like an illegals song imo....and yeah there is a lot of that start stop shit....
Honestly heroin influenced the first 2 albums a lot phil was really just talking about the problem he had with it on them, the newer stuff is a clean phil who has his mind on the people that are pussies like SJWs and all that good shit
I saw them on their very 1st tour in a dump in Springfield Va & no joke there was maybe 50-60 people there including staff….i saw them at the same place on their next tour & that was no longer the case….me & my buddies partied with Hank for a little while before the show 🖤great night 🤤I was 32 😞now I’m 52
So did i... I was 23 yrs old..I saw pantera 4 times live and was so excited to see phil in a small club..I got so wasted I dont remember that much of it
I seen them a bunch of times back in the day. I wonder if I looked this fucked up when I was on methadone and klonopin....lol. Only the strongest people ever come off of that drug willingly.
Hank stays head banging like Tom arya and Tom fucked his neck up and back bad but he head bang like no other and he had surgery. And he paid for it but it is real metal no sell out shit
I know I'm going to get a lot of wtf's.personally I think this was the last good music Phil was apart of.I saw superjoint in Columbus Ohio.devildriver played there first live show as a band.
Everytime i seen superjoint ritual was crazy shit going on in small clubs or outside at an Ozzfest still as crazy .... Good old days i miss that sh1t!!!

Phil Anselmo was created in a lab to be the perfect metal ambassador
"Personal Insult" is one of the best songs ever written in heavy music... live version just kills!!
YES🤘
I’m sure some dudes were jamming that song in the early Iraq days
I know this will be controversial, but wasted ear Phil was amazing, so much creativity, darkness, intensity, and his voice...wow. Thanks Phil.
Thomas Walton. Not controversial at all bro, that is a testament of how fucking amazing he is and still is, Phil is the King of Metal IMO.🤘🍻
Phil was always on point. A great showman.

SJR live 2002-2004 was a site to behold. Incredible live, and more fun than Pantera

It would have been sooo much better if Pantera had stayed on tour for Reinventing the Steel and this project waited on a shelf.
