It feels like it took what Clone Wars did and in Arcane’s own words “CRANKED IT” The flat paint giving so much depth but with these subtler yet still noticeable intricacies of facial animations and the slight twitches and even breathing. Adds to the visual characterization beyond design.
Great spot! Fun Fact: They actually used different animation rigs for Powder and Jinx, so they have slightly different facial proportions and different facial expressions. You can see this being used best at 1:34-1:35
yeah its also my biggest fear. Just my opinion but Arcane season 1 so far is probably the greatest show (work of art in all senses of the word like you said, a masterpiece) that's ever been created and its going to be nigh impossible to match or surpass. But im keeping faith this team of creators seem to be very very very good. Im sure Riot games is seeing the success of this and it would be equally tragic to mess it up and they know that. Lets hope
@@mistfitsableYea the pressure to make a followup that has to be at least as good as season 1 must be insane but I've understood that the creators got a massive budget increase for season 2 to allow them to do it right and make sure that they don't settle for anything less than perfect, just like with the first season. Riot Games being the developer for one of the biggest games in the world, they must understand that from a business standpoint its better to spend the money and take extra time to make a great followup instead of ruining the entire Arcane brand by making something the fans don't like. I trust Riot and Fortiche on this
One thing nobody is mentioning is that when Vi mentioned that she got arrested, the first name Jinx mentioned was Marcus. She recognized him and knew who arrested Vi and then killed him on the bridge. That mechanical firelight, didn't target any random Enforcer but Marcus.
The way Jinx's face softens and changes so drastically when she hears Vi's voice is such a fantastic attention to detail by the animators. From Progress Day onward, we're accustomed to seeing Jinx as she has become in this new life she leads; tough, resourceful, damaged, a survivor, a ganger, a weaponsmith, a fighter, occasionally erratic, plagued by trauma and unstable, but instinctually dangerous and mechanically brilliant, never anything more soft on her face than occasional wry or ironic amusement. A person who's led a tough life in the streets, fighting to survive, hurting people, never fully trusting anyone. Yet the moment she hears her sister's voice again, there's a glimmer of something in her eyes, something she maybe didn't even know existed anymore. Hope? Love? When she turns to look at Vi, you can almost see the old Powder again - or who Powder may have grown up to become had things gone a different way - and this is consequently also the first time Vi sees her face again, which makes it all the more heartbreaking.
I had a sister that passed in 2016. Every time I watch this scene some part of me imagines I'm Jinx and Vero is Vi. In fact watching Vi in this show highlights all the best things I remember about my sister. She had a very dark side, but I didn't see it as much as everyone else. I only got the good parts (even then there were some bad memories so episode 3's ending hit hard too) Despite all that I miss her. I remember feeling like a completely lost monster after her death. Sure I didn't fling bombs or shoot guns but I lashed out like Jinx did. After seeing this series it was like Jinx held a mirror to me. I aim to be more like Vi now, in a way being the new family protector and highlighting all the good lessons and memories my sister left me. Vi helps fill that void Vero left behind. Lots of thanks to Riot for making this wonderful series. It's helped me through a lot. ❤🎉
1:17 that expectant look she gives Vi breaks my heart. she expects her sister to get the hint and still accept her when she says she has changed not exactly mentioning what she means by "change" because she's too afraid to confess that it is not just a "to-do to survive" kind of change Vi thinks it is
Omg!! I just noticed that when Jinx was hugged by Vi for a moment she turned into Powder, her eyes turned grey (which represents Powder) but as soon as Caitlin comes barging in, her eyes turned back to Blue (which represents Jinx). Powder’s eyes were grey but when she grew up into Jinx her eyes were more blue.
Yes but you can also see that her eyes turn grey with a bit of blue, showing that no matter how hard she tries or what Vi does, Jinx is who she is now and that will never change. You can even see that being called Powder makes her uncomfortable.
Actually you have a point. Animators rigged two different facial expressions for Jinx. For when she is Jinx and the Powder within her comes to surface.
Legit when Vi showed up, I also thought "Oh no, Jinx has lost it. Vi isn't really there. That Vi looks too clean to have come from the situation she was just in." But as the scene kept going ....I felt the hope building and when Powder asked "are you real?" I got choked up, not gonna lie.
This is my favourite scene. It's cute how they are so happy they found eachother again and that they still care so much. The cute/happy vibes don't last long tho 😅.
that's the comment I was searching for... 😂 needs more attention for sure xDD really noticed it only after watching whole series several times *big dramatic emotional reunion going on * that bird every few seconds: kraaahh ;D
I wish Jinx and Vi had just been given that moment. It made me sad that Caitlyn and Ekko destroyed it because it really seemed like seeing Vi again, in the flesh, got Jinx to open like a book :(
"are you real" made me break down into tears having constant hallucinations and flashbacks of someone you lost, and then when they appear again, you dont know if its another trick your mind is playing on you.
dont worry! theres a scene in a different league of legends game (about the present of the lore) where vi and jinx "renovated" some walls and caused an explosion, (both of them being happy) and jinx gave vi the old bunny plushy that vi gave powder when they were young :D vi and jinx hugged too
This is so depressing... I hope they end up loving each other with the same love that beguiled the hours in their childhood and not in conflict ceaselessly...
I love the details in Jinx's/Powder's eyes changing colour; at 0:27 when she turns around and realises it's Vi her eyes turn back to grey (aka, Powder's eye colour), flickering between grey and blue (blue being the colour of Jinx). However at 1:11 when Vi confirms that she's real, Jinx' eyes go back to grey completely and stop flickering, showing that Powder is returning knowing that her sister really did come back for her. But then at 1:34 when Cait arrives on the scene, Jinx's eyes go back to flickering between grey and blue, showing her losing her grip on her sanity once more.
Fun fact: Most people probably havent noticed this detail, but theres a difference in Jinx eyes to Powders. For example, At 0:17 Her eyes look narrow, serious and matured, This is Jinx. While at 0:31 her eyes have softened, appearing a lot more rounded, delicate and innocent. This is Powder. This is a pretty subtle, but very effective way to show how Powders personality disorder differs between Her and Jinx. One of the many reasons why this is one my top favourite shows.
“Things changed when you left, I changed.” I may be reading too much into this but I think that was Jinx trying to say something more then “it was really hard without you” or something like that. I think that was her trying to say that Vi may not like who she is anymore but being too afraid to exactly say it.
Has to be one of the most emotional scenes ever to exist, it still and always occurs to me as absolutely intense goosebumps and being at the edge of tearing up, and I adore these ways. ( especially here: 0:260:320:45 ) PowPow’s voice is incredibly emotional and couldn’t fit her better, just like in 1:13 and 1:56 … What a master’s piece of art!~ ;D
My best friend left me years ago but sometimes I still see her. Sometimes I'll get a notification that I got a text from her but I'll wake up before I can read it.

I honestly think it is "Vi and Powder" reuniting. Think about it Jinx is the part of her that wants to forget Vi. She wants to be independent and to let go of the fear of abandonment. But Powder on the other hand is a character that loves and cares for her sister and will do anything to see her again. It was powder who lit the moke but it was Jinx who threw it away and held the stone. It was Powder who let go of the stone and hugged Vi but it was Jinx who pointed the gun at Caitlyn
This series gave me a mix of telltale walking dead and Spider-Man: into the spider verse vibes, the style of the characters in the walking dead and the cartooniness and camera angles of Spider-Man itsv.
This is the greatest animated show I’ve watched. I’ve watched it so many times & im about to do it again. The raw emotion. I’ve never even played the game so going in I didn’t know a lot about the characters. The animation in itself is what drew me in & it did not disappoint
"Are you real?" One of the most heartbreaking lines ive ever heard in a show. Imagine seeing your sibling after a decade, and having to hear that they've been sick in the head.
Oh you can really see how bad it got in this scene. When she says she isn't in the mood for this while having an episode. It's gotten to the point that she is permanently stuck in these episodes with only brief moments of clarity
this is genius because when shows try to show a misunderstanding during a important moment it always feels contrived as hell and dumb. but her it makes sense because Caitlyn only broke Vi out because she was looking for the stone which jinx has, so while you can argue well did caitlyn really need to ask about the stone at that moment, the only reason caitlyn was their in the first place is because she saw jinx steal it so it make sense why she would freak out about it.
I don't play LoL and I know next to nothing about the series(nor am I very interested in it). I have only watched an amv about Jinx which shows her pained, psychotic side. I still remember how heart-wrenching her crying was there, despite only watching it once, months ago. The voice-acting is really something else
I think we all have a moment like this in our life, where strong emotions caused problems that were avoidable by like *seconds* of reconsideration or one small thing like one thing said would’ve changed everything. That’s why I love this scene personally. It’s so frustrating but usually with sensitive people and trauma’s involved this is how it goes
OK that face that they had her come and didn't go with the cliche "oh I couldn't come because of obstacles" LIKE YES! this made so much more sense to come anyways. Thank you archane for not being like every other show owo.

If I were Vi, I wouldn't mind the fighting skills, or her ability to kill as Vi herself was willing to do that (like Silco's thugs multiple times, even as a child in Ep 3). What I would have a hard time forgiving is the fact that it took her just 90 seconds (or close enough) to denounce her family and spend the next 7 years killing for- and loving the man she knows destroyed her whole family.
That betrayal is the difficult part to overcome.
@@Casper8855She has severe abandonment trauma. That can make relationships feel like a need like food and water. Silico adopted her when she was alone right after she lost her entire family.
@@umhi9778 You forgot to add '... because of him'.
@@Casper8855but regardless, if she rejected Silico she would be completely alone. She only recognises what Silico did once Vi comes back since it's only then she can afford to without ensuring she has no one.
Something about this combination of hand drawn and 3d preserves the soul of classic Disney films but also brings it to a whole other level through the seamless animation of 3d resulting in emotions that feel more real than live action film. It's like those Disney eyes pierce right through your conscious and make you relate to their every feeling.
Yeah I love how it's animated
It feels like it took what Clone Wars did and in Arcane’s own words “CRANKED IT”
The flat paint giving so much depth but with these subtler yet still noticeable intricacies of facial animations and the slight twitches and even breathing. Adds to the visual characterization beyond design.

You can clearly see how jinx pupils got bigger as she saw vi, she really loves her sm

Great spot!
Fun Fact: They actually used different animation rigs for Powder and Jinx, so they have slightly different facial proportions and different facial expressions.
You can see this being used best at 1:34-1:35
@@monihyung O: I did not know. Tysm for sharing!!!
@@monihyungyup. Powder has a more rounded and child like face while Jinx had a more angular and sharper structure.
I dont play in LoL but i realy like Arcane. Its perfect
So is jinx 😭

Whatever you do, don't ever try playing LoL. It takes a piece of your sanity each time.
The story is great, the game can be frustrating.
@@jin_cotl thank goodness, thats a dark corner of the world
"Things changed when you left. I changed" That line hits so hard, and gets me everytime :(
Vi didn’t realise how much she actually changed
This was a masterpiece from top to bottom. From soundtrack, ambience, graphics. I don't know how they can follow up. They set the bar extremely high.
yeah its also my biggest fear. Lets hope
@@mistfitsable yeah
@@mistfitsableYea the pressure to make a followup that has to be at least as good as season 1 must be insane but I've understood that the creators got a massive budget increase for season 2 to allow them to do it right and make sure that they don't settle for anything less than perfect, just like with the first season. Riot Games being the developer for one of the biggest games in the world, they must understand that from a business standpoint its better to spend the money and take extra time to make a great followup instead of ruining the entire Arcane brand by making something the fans don't like. I trust Riot and Fortiche on this
Am I the only one that feels like Vi and Jinx could have been friends again if Ekko didn't interrupt them?
Ikr it would have been so perfect
Ekko "jinxed" the meeting. Ah! Get it?

God damn that eyes animation in Jinx is above the greatest

One thing nobody is mentioning is that when Vi mentioned that she got arrested, the first name Jinx mentioned was Marcus. She recognized him and knew who arrested Vi and then killed him on the bridge. That mechanical firelight, didn't target any random Enforcer but Marcus.
Oh fuck
OH DAMN that it such a good catch
dude, when vi call her ''pow pow'' i just broke-
Who’s here after act 3
1:21 Look at jinx hands 🥺
Pow-pow
I can't that's the cutest nickname i have ever heard. 😭
That’s the name of her gun
@jonow2191 Tes, but Vi said, "It's going to be alright, Pow-pow"
That's the irony, giving her childhood nickname to her chemtech gatlin gun is crazy 💀
those few seconds of just the sheer happiness of the 2 of them... makes me cry every time
that is, until cait shows up -.-
Damn it Ekko and Caitlyn! THEY WERE SO CLOSE! SO CLOSE!!😭😭😭😭
1:17 that expectant look she gives Vi breaks my heart. she expects her sister to get the hint and still accept her when she says she has changed not exactly mentioning what she means by "change" because she's too afraid to confess that it is not just a "to-do to survive" kind of change Vi thinks it is
Just to clarify what kind of change has jinx actually gone through that’s not for survival
I just noticed that ... before Jinx turned around to see Vi, her pupils became bigger and im not okay
this whole thing is heartbreaking but my heart always splinters at Vi saying: "Yes, of course. It's me, Vi, your sister. I'm here. I'm right here."
AND THE THREE HUUUGS
Not really, she just had them semi-closed through tears so they appeared a different color. They remained the gray-blue throughout.
You're really over analyzing this.
@@danterik9781 Nope it's a detail that's literally present throughout the entire show
Legit when Vi showed up, I also thought "Oh no, Jinx has lost it. Vi isn't really there. That Vi looks too clean to have come from the situation she was just in." But as the scene kept going ....I felt the hope building and when Powder asked "are you real?" I got choked up, not gonna lie.
Visiting this after the end of ss2 hurts. Even if we’re worlds apart …
real
I can literally watch this all day.
Same. I've wached this for like 20 times
At 1:11 you can see Jinx melt back into Powder’s old mannerisms again, for a moment. The details that went into this show…
1:13 broke my heart
This is my favourite scene. It's cute how they are so happy they found eachother again and that they still care so much.
The cute/happy vibes don't last long tho 😅.
Jinx: "Whos she?"
Cait: "Who are you"
Bird: "KAAAAAH"
that's the comment I was searching for... 😂 needs more attention for sure xDD really noticed it only after watching whole series several times
*big dramatic emotional reunion going on *
that bird every few seconds: kraaahh ;D
How wholesome is their reunion, surely they will get happy ending in the future
I wish Jinx and Vi had just been given that moment. It made me sad that Caitlyn and Ekko destroyed it because it really seemed like seeing Vi again, in the flesh, got Jinx to open like a book :(
The way Vi places a hand on her cheek like when she did when they were young😭
"are you real" made me break down into tears
having constant hallucinations and flashbacks of someone you lost, and then when they appear again, you dont know if its another trick your mind is playing on you.
This scene was just a glimpse of happiness, It was nice while it lasted
"It`s Jinx now. Powder fell down a well"....
I can never get over the beauty of this animation style.
Damn I'm so sad that they might be enemies now...
dont worry! theres a scene in a different league of legends game (about the present of the lore) where vi and jinx "renovated" some walls and caused an explosion, (both of them being happy) and jinx gave vi the old bunny plushy that vi gave powder when they were young :D vi and jinx hugged too
I heard that wasn’t cannon tho- it is?

Oh, the misery. Everybody wants to be my enemy...
Best TV serie I’ve ever seen.
They r so pretty its painful
This is so depressing... I hope they end up loving each other with the same love that beguiled the hours in their childhood and not in conflict ceaselessly...
The voice acting is so good.
“Things changed when you left, I changed.”
I may be reading too much into this but I think that was Jinx trying to say something more then “it was really hard without you” or something like that. I think that was her trying to say that Vi may not like who she is anymore but being too afraid to exactly say it.
When Powder/Jinx says : "It's Jinx now. Powder fell down a well."
It's heartbreaking. Powder would love to come back but Jinx keeps taking over...
Jinx is so cute.
1:56 the way Mylo keeps appearing.
Has to be one of the most emotional scenes ever to exist, it still and always occurs to me as absolutely intense goosebumps and being at the edge of tearing up, and I adore these ways. ( especially here: 0:26 0:32 0:45 ) PowPow’s voice is incredibly emotional and couldn’t fit her better, just like in 1:13 and 1:56 … What a master’s piece of art!~ ;D
Coming back here one last time to enjoy their reunion before Season 2 hits 😢
"Not everyone may be able to relate to it, but the few that do, well it'll mean the world to them."- Can't remember who said that, sorry!
I'm really for season 2 3 4 5 6 7 just keep them coming
My best friend left me years ago but sometimes I still see her. Sometimes I'll get a notification that I got a text from her but I'll wake up before I can read it.
Dude Vi and Jinx can’t be enemies come on. Season 2
dont worry! theres a scene in a different league of legends game (about the present of the lore) where vi and jinx "renovated" some walls and caused an explosion, (both of them being happy) and jinx gave vi the old bunny plushy that vi gave powder when they were young :D vi and jinx hugged too
Nah... They became a batman and joker like that.. and thats the beginning of the season 2
Oh, oh the misery...
Vi nunca será enemiga de Jinx, pero Jinx hace lo posible para provocar a Vi haciendo alborotos en Piltover.
VI 😊😊😊🥰🥰🥰
I honestly think it is "Vi and Powder" reuniting. Think about it Jinx is the part of her that wants to forget Vi. She wants to be independent and to let go of the fear of abandonment. But Powder on the other hand is a character that loves and cares for her sister and will do anything to see her again. It was powder who lit the moke but it was Jinx who threw it away and held the stone. It was Powder who let go of the stone and hugged Vi but it was Jinx who pointed the gun at Caitlyn
This scene gets me every time.
Ella Purnel's voice acting as Jynx is insane.
This series gave me a mix of telltale walking dead and Spider-Man: into the spider verse vibes, the style of the characters in the walking dead and the cartooniness and camera angles of Spider-Man itsv.
Also reminds me of the last of us
And dishonored
This is the greatest animated show I’ve watched. I’ve watched it so many times & im about to do it again. The raw emotion. I’ve never even played the game so going in I didn’t know a lot about the characters. The animation in itself is what drew me in & it did not disappoint
"Are you real?"
One of the most heartbreaking lines ive ever heard in a show.
God just saw first act of season 2 and just want to stay with this scene
Vi and Powder: We're finally together!
Ekko: You sure about that?
0:15
Ekko : “Looks like Jinx has lost his blue signal flare…I should return it to her!”
Powder fell down a well. Of tears.
Beside the gorgeous animation the voice acting is also awesome. Jinx voice cracks and everything.
I'm not an LoL fan, but i can still appreciate a good story and great characters.
When I saw this I wanted to cry
