That’s the thing, I don’t see Silco as a villian his ambition of Zaun isn’t out of desire for power but out of desire for freedom. This desire fueled by the mistreatment by the people in the over world. His want for freedom lead him to doing heinous act most especially the spread of shimmer to fund his goal. Throughout the serious Jinx humanizes him, I would love to seen the man Silco became, become leader of Zaun because he became a man with the right character to lead compared to the person who at the beginning of the show. At the end of the day from beginning to end I don’t think his intentions were bad he was just a man abandoned by everybody and cornered in pure survival mode until he found somebody who he could love and trust, he went from survival to protective of his daughter and became more human in the process.

Yep as soon as Vi came around she started losing it, reliving childhood trauma and thinking about the past. She really did need to let the past die like Silco was trying to get her to do. Maybe her and Vi could have worked if she wasn’t helping an enforcer which went against the undercity’s contempt for Piltover. Which last powder knew Vi was also against and was willing to go to war for. But all-in-all what she needed was to be loved for who she was and not feel like she was going to get abandoned. Silco did that unconditionally but Vi was stuck in the past forming new commitments. At least that my take.

But he's willing to do ANYTHING to achieve it (with a mantra about that, which he's repeated several times). Vander left the cause because he realized how many would have to die for it, but that's not a problem for Silco. Silco floods the streets with Shimmer, a drug with bad consequences as we saw with the dwellers Cait dealt with when searching for a way to save Vi. Silco had child labor, and was willing to kill children (would have killed Vander's 4, would have killed the son of one of his lieutenants if Jayce hadn't already, etc.). If he's morally grey, then it's a really DARK shade of grey.

Yet he genuinely cared for Jinx. He protected her, encouraged her, and even at the end, he said she was perfect and did not blame her for killing him. She was his daughter.

Silco truly loved her *for her*, her psychosis, faults, her everything.

I know some people thought that it was weird or it made them uncomfortable, but people need to realize that not every touch is sexual in some way. Silco was a loving father for Jinx, but in some ways he was just like Vander in that he wasn't able to divide his attention fairly to everyone under his care. Jinx was his favorite and we sympathize with her as an audience because she clearly needed someone to accept her as she was, and we understand that Silco was the only person who can provide that unconditional acceptance for her, but that doesn't mean he was as good to everyone else. Similarly, Vander was the same; he needed to focus on the older kids because it made the most sense. He was just one man, and by focusing on the older kids he could then support them so that they can subsequently be delegated the task of caring for and supporting the younger kids, decreasing the overall workload. This is the appropriate way to parent when you have multiple children; if you baby the youngest, you risk neglecting the older kids who still actually need you, and they don't have any support; but if you actually focus on the oldest, the older kids now have the fortitude to help divide the parenting toward the younger kids. However, most real parents end up spoiling the youngest or most vulnerable because of human nature, which inadvertently abandons the older kids.

Strangely enough I also think he was better for Jinx than Vi, even though Vi has known her literally her whole life she can't validate Jinx or even love her as she is now. She loved Powder but failed to understand her fears and validate her, she insisted in Powder becoming a thief like the rest of them even though it was clear that stealth and physical prowess were never going to be her thing. There were other things Powder was good at, if Vi had given Powder more credit for those things maybe she wouldn't have felt useless or unwanted. For all of his faults and extremism Silco loved Jinx and validated her no matter what, he was always careful of his words and actions around her and even abandoned his goal of an independent nation for her. He truly did the best he could taking care of her and pushing her to reach her potential.

At 4:04, while Jinx hugs Silco, he redirects his attention to the gemstone. But he barely reacts to it, he doesn’t do an evil smirk like any other villain would do. He redirects his attention to Jinx. It’s a small detail, but I love it

I feel like no one either talks about this or noticed it but I love the detail that he has a hard time with his eye medicine. He struggles to line it up right, but in the beginning before he killed Vander there's a scene where he uses it perfectly, with no issues or struggle shown. Its a quick scene, its almost unnoticeable if youre not paying attention, but it shows how independent he was. He'd done it so many times that he was a pro at it, but then he let jinx do it for him, he's let her do it for so long that now HE struggles to do it himself. I just love subtle details like that. It's such a vulnerable thing to let someone else do for you. To inject your medicine in such a tender and sensitive place like that. He loved and trusted her SO much. Ahhh this show has become my undoing.

I think what's even more adorable about the eye medicine is, that he shows vulnerability in exchange over her vulnerability towards him. just after she crouched on his table and opens up about what happened in her head when she killed the firelight girl, he hands her the syringe over and makes himself vulnerable to her. Not just dependent and trusting...i think that vulnerability is the main reason why he started to trust her with this. To show she doesnt need to fear him, and that he sees her equally

In the show he only lies when he doesn't tell Jinx Vi is back (he also thought she was dead) and when he claims Vi is only back for the gemstone (he has no proof for this). Obviously he does this because he fears Vi will take Jinx away from him and I guess it's also the same feeling that fuels the manipulation with the "we only have each other" stuff. 3:13 this scene will never be not funny 😂😂😂 It's worth noting that at this moment, from Silco's perspective, Jinx just blew up a building and killed 6 enforcers probably for fun and some random craps. He had no idea about the gemstone. Even then, all he did was yelling at her. Poor dude could barely even get her to hear him under that loud-ass "punk" music. There was no sign of violence or threat. Even the way he asked the question - "do you have any idea what you've done", obviously contains his concern for Jinx drawing danger to herself. The show really built up Silco's ending throughout the entire show. That's why it was epic and didn't feel out of place. He's obviously been spoiling her his whole life.

An interesting narrative detail is that despite being good people, Vander and Vi’s greatest regret was when they gave in to anger as it lead to what broke their relationship with their brother/sister.
However, it’s Jinx and Silco that break that cycle by choosing to do good in their lowest moments.
    - When the fight for Zaun failed leading to Felicia’s death and orphaning Vi and Powder, Vander tried to kill Silco who didn’t want their deaths to be in vain and continue the fight.
    - Vi blamed and abandoned Powder for mistake that was never her intention. Opting to strike her and leave when she needed comfort from trauma the most. Letting her be potentially killed by Silco until she realized her mistake.
    - Silco was going to kill Powder, but when he saw himself in her despair, someone who lost everything they could trust, he understands and lets go of his hatred for Vander, choosing to comfort Powder.
    - Jinx in her aimlessness in Season 2, takes care of Isha, constantly trying to protect her since she’s also alone. Though she isn’t good at it, she does her best to be the sister she needed a long time ago. And because of that she tries staying away from violence to keep Isha out of harm’s way.
That’s why it’s narratively wild that Silco and Jinx are, at heart, kinder characters than even Vander and Vi, and that it’s actually them momentarily succumbing to anger that corrupts Silco and Powder. Even during the finale of Season 1, Jinx was never truly insane, she was borderline and tiptoeing, wanting to escape into insanity as a justifiable excuse, but then we learn she was afraid of making the choice and wanted someone to do it for her. It was Vi unintentionally pushing her trauma onto her that was causing her to go ballistic and it was Silco trying to stop Vi because her words were hurting her. And when she accidentally kills Silco, he chooses to forgive her, comfort her, and alleviate her worries and anxieties in hopes of bringing her peace. It’s only then do the voices stop and Jinx chooses to be “Jinx” of her own volition. Because Vi created “Jinx” yet refused to see that Powder and “Jinx” were always the same person, she was just different after so many years apart.
And it’s made all the more true as Season 2 shows the alternate timeline where Silco created Zaun together with everyone and helped establish peace and prosperity for both sides, and Powder is recognized for her talent of engineering and pushed to help innovate and improve the world far beyond anything she could do in a bar. In the end, Vander and Vi had heart but could only do so much, and that it was Silco and Powder who had the talent and ability to change their world for the better.
They only had the strength to protect their ideals, but lacked the ability to change. And they forsook that strength, and betrayed those they were supposed to protect, and in doing so, changed what Silco and Powder could become.
Vander and Vi were the real jinx. Even if unintentional.

    • @kidlikecrow7426
      @kidlikecrow7426 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

That is quite a great observation, as because of Vi only having the strength necessary to defend her loved ones but not enough to change, she causes the "death" of Jinx during the finale; when she is stuck in the past looking at Warwick or "Vander's" dead body instead of moving to safer ground with Jinx.
Schnee also brought up in he's video analysing Vi, how Vi's arc was heading on the road to change during her moment of self-sacrifice in Season 1 where she was ready bring herself in Stillwater to protect her family, but because Vander stepped in she didn't and in my opinion she never reached that point of change every again.

So if Silco would soften up and abandon his goal like Vandor did, she would definitely betray him for someone still devoted to their people.
Maybe I'm reading too deep into it, but that tiny unnecessary line, made me click with the character. Vander prioritized individual lives and peace over the movement after he adopted the orphaned children. Silco and Sevika saw the short term losses as inconsequential to the endless suffering Zaun faced in the past and in the future. Both have obvious merit. Their father/daughter relationship is beautifully complicated. They both have trauma and don't know how to properly deal with it. Silco seems calm on the surface, like he's over what happened, but it's clear that it's made him paranoid in a way. He doesn't trust anyone as much as Jinx, probably because of what happened with Vander. I mean, he tends to speak differently to others, but is softer with Jinx. Even when he was mad at her, he wasn't threatening. He was just like any dad scolding his kid more or less.
Granted, I'm not saying Silco is a great person or the best dad, but he did care for Jinx in the end , more than anything else. His last words to her are meant to comfort her, which says a lot. I mean, I wouldn't waste my last breaths trying to comfort someone I can't stand -- especially someone I can't stand who has just fatally wounded me.
Soemthing else: I don't think Silco intended on being a father figure, like, ever. I don't think he ever had a proper father figure. So, he takes care of Jinx the only way he knows how, and it's how he takes care of himself. Like, he doesn't know any better, but he does care about her. He just is deeply flawed and can't be, I guess, a proper father to her. But he loved her more than anything and he let her know that in the end, and that makes him a great father-figure to me.

Honestly, the baptizing scene is so sweet. While us as viewers know that "Jinx" is not the healthiest, best option for Powder to become, Silco thought otherwise. But not to hurt her or demoralize her into a monster.
He spoke to her from experience. He wanted to share something with her that he truly believed would help her move away from her pain and let her focus on the future. He never wanted Jinx to suffer, he never wanted her to be plagued by fear and anxiety, because he knew better than anyone how much Vi's action hurt her.
He wanted to make Jinx feel renewed and free. Which is beautiful. No matter how questionable Silco's actions and intentions may be, he never stopped supporting Jinx and only wanted the best for her. Or at least what he thought, from his heart, was best.

Never understood where the confusion around whether these two's relationship is sexual comes from. To me it was crystal clear throughout the entire show. We're seeing a father-figure and a spoiled maniac daughter. Silco allows Jinx to do almost anything - sitting on the table, drawing doodles at his workplace, literally attacking him when she was mad, and of course - getting into his personal space. He never "corrected" her behavior. Part of it might be love and part of it might simply be the fact that he's not a typical/real father. Jinx, on the other hand, is well known for her maniac and illogical behavior. She looks like the kind of killer that would lick your face while making a threat if you know what I mean. Her giving "Chuck" an aggressive hug and attaching an explosive to his back which turned out to be paint bomb pretty much summarized her character. These two factors from Silco and Jinx made their interactions the way they were. Nothing sus.

    • @aphexxed4917
      @aphexxed4917 3 ปีที่แล้ว +58

I don't know if I would call Jinx's behavior "spoiled". Silko seems to truly love Jinx as a daughter. Allowing her in his personal space shows he trusts her, and is a normal level of platonic affection you'd see between family members. Her drawings all over his desk are akin to someone hanging their kids artwork in their office. As for Jinx attacking him after learning he lied about Vi - I feel like he understands her mental state enough to know when not to lash out at her.

@@aphexxed4917 what you said is literally how Silco spoiled Jinx though lol. I get it that we like Silco and we do understand why he allowed Jinx to do what she does, but that’s basically the definition of spoiling someone - all love and support and lack of restraint; because like you said, he loves her. My parents hung my drawings as a kid too but they’d teach me not to draw on the desk. Jinx’s character is amazingly portrayed as someone that lacks restraint. She does what she wants where she wants and when she wants. You don’t get that kind of personality raised by Vander, as his education emphasizes on self-restraint.

@@eatandrun8020 he does disciplined her, but only when she needs it, when she was pissed at him for lying he knew better then to lash out, because that would escalate the situation further, and letting her draw on the desk is a good way to Express yourself, given her mental health it might have been a good way to help her cope, and when she killed a bunch of enforcers he put his foot down, which shows he's cable of discipline, when she needs it, and has patience, he knows when it's time to punish or talk it out with her, given what's happening.

Watching this made me realize something about Silco and why this show is so well written.
In every other interaction with every other character, Silco manipulates them to serve his own ends and ambitions. Nothing he says or does can be taken at face value, because the majority of the way he communicates is done through subtextual displays of control and dominance.
This forces the audience to ask “what is he after?”in every single one of his interactions.
Except for ALL of his interactions with Jinx. Every single one he has is honest. Every single one, he is being truthful and direct. Even when he “lies” about Vi, it’s not because he is intentionally trying to manipulate Jinx, it’s because the information that’s available to him and his own past experiences lead him to try and shelter her from the hurt he assumes she will inevitably experience.
We are constantly forced to call into question “what Silco wants” from Jinx because that’s the way Silco interacts with everyone else, and this silent expectation shapes our perception of their relationship.
But he really, thoroughly, genuinely loves her and wants what’s best for her, because he sees within her what it is that he truly loves about Zaun, and by extension what is his deepest and most sincere hope; that there is a place in the world for even the most broken among us, that life has value beyond the purpose that it can be made to serve, that people don’t need to “do” or “be” anything to be worthy of love.
And he is willing to do whatever it takes to bring that world into being, even if it, paradoxically, means allowing Jinx to destroy everything he has worked to build. He simply cannot allow himself to turn his back on her, the way everyone else had done to him.

It's kind of sweet how Silco is super menacing and intimidating with every other character in the show, but when he's with Jinx, he speaks more softly and gently. Or at least he tries to. With everyone else, he's a powerful drug lord. With Jinx, he's a dad who attempts not to trigger her PTSD.

He then looks at her again, but this time with an assured look, like that was the moment he decided to take her in.

I love how gentle he is with her. He always reciprocates physical intimacy even when it's not necessarily appropriate. If she leans into him, he always holds her. Even as he's dieing you can see him leaning to try and comfort her.
Even when she's being violent with him, he doesn't push her away or even try to resist. He could have probably gotten her off of him if he really wanted to. But instead, he sits there and gently grabs her wrist and talks her down.
You can tell how much he loves her just from how he speaks to her. He has a lightness to his voice, like he's trying to hide a gentle smile that sometimes peeks through. He keeps things that shes drawn on in his office and bar. He has a special place for her in that office, a place that is central to his whole operation and she is sitting above it all. Where she could see and hear everything going on without anyone knowing.
He literally put her above all of his efforts and goals. He trusts her as much if not more then even Sevika, even with her eratic behavior. He's almost always honest with her and does his best to protect her from the world and her demons.
He might be a bad person bet he's an amazing father to Jinx.

When Jinx said her sister left her, Silco looked at Vandor on the ground, I think that moment he saw him in Jinx.
He didn’t manipulate Jinx to use her as a weapon but he did what he believed only way to make her stronger and become something that the enemy afraid.
Jinx is the only “weak” one around him and they want to show the “strong” one they are strong too.
Jinx is like Silco’s successor to free the weak one
