The Police member who wrote this song, Sting, says it's supposed to be creepy. He wrote it in response for the criticism he got for having an affair when he was married. He took a break from the public eye in the Caribbean and this was written in that time. He says it's literally about an obsessive, possessive and jealous ex-lover; always watching you. He's said many times he's disturbed by how many fans try to put a positive spin on the lyrics. "I think the song is very, very sinister and ugly and people have actually misinterpreted it as being a gentle little love song, when it's quite the opposite." - Sting, to BBC Radio in 1983.
I think he hoped his fans had better critical thinking skills than to just blindly defend any criticism he received for writing a dark song by twisting the meaning. Dark songs have a place in musical art and are cool, but they were still pretty new business in the Top 100 Pop Charts the early 1980s, so many scrambled to make the lyrics seem more positive. Rock had done it for years but Pop had to catch up. I'm a believer in relating to a piece of art however you want, even if it contradicts the original meaning. But I do not believe in speaking over the artists intentions and spreading assumptions. Please don't make uninformed statements like that.
Loved the original of course, great song, but this version, once again they put such an amazing spin on it and the voice, soulful voice, that is just absolute beauty. Brilliant arrangement.

Her version of "Creep" was absolutely mesmerizing!! She literally went to tears and Scott Bradley himself applauded her on stage!

His interpretation was both interesting and refreshing, which is not something you would have expected for such an old man ! The humility he has shown by covering a song from younger artists does him much credit.
It is only a matter of opinion, of course, but I think no cover can measure up to the original. And this goes for almost all pieces of music in the world.
