I've been working in Unreal Engine for more than 2 years and I can say that most of the bugs that are presented in the video are fixed in 10 minutes each, it's strange that nothing has been fixed yet :)

4:05 in the definitive, rain drops are tracking the camera position and you see them falling. While in the OG version, you see these drops only for 1 frame, which is based because when you fly at 400km/h you don't see rain drops fall as if you were idle.

Before The Definitive Edition was released, I thought the GTA trilogy was going to be exactly the same as the originals only with GTA 5 styled graphics, better animations and more music added to the soundtrack but instead Grove Street Games made all the characters look like they're made of clay or plastic and have robotic animations.

These remasters and upgrades of old games really make you appreciate the original work of the creators. Dunno how difficult it can be to copy and simply improve someone's work with a new price label but new devs suck
I wouldn't blame the devs at all. I'd say most game developers are competent and could probably pour hours into this to make it good. Part of the problem in the game industry is that all changes typically need to be approved by higher up staff. So as a developer you could know something would work, and know how to implement it, but if someone above you telly you no or tells you to work on something else, then you're a bit shit out of luck. A totally different situation but you can actually see the clash a lot with Meta and their Herizons universe. The dev team are still working on it, but most of them don't use it, like it, and dislike the direction the upper staff are going for. I wouldn't doubt that most of those devs at least know how to make an okay game, but they can't because someone above them wants to focus on something else. This isn't always a bad thing at all but it really sucks when A) the people above you have no idea what makes a good game good or B) the people above you want to do things as cheaply as possible and don't care about quality at all. So if anything i'd point your fingers at people like publishers and the people in control of directing development teams.
so with grove street games decisions on what happens to the game could come from grove street upper staff themselves OR grove street could have wanted to do more but might need permission from RockStar or RockStars parent companies. Or all of the above. Game development has always been complicated but its gotten even more complicated as years have gone by. A lot of these mega studios have a lot of rule on how things are done. Sometimes they allow or even insensitive devs being creative, and sometimes they heavily disallow that

You can have the best idea in the world and if no one wants to add it then you just have to do what you're told. Not all studios are that strict but there's definitely a bit of a wall between a game dev and the people who okay certain things. Porting code is a little more complicated than you think. Even though code all does "the same thing, just written differently", how code reacts to different game engines matters a lot. Every game engine is made slightly differently. For example, a lot of game engines you could buy as an indie game developer come with built in physics. So you don't really need to code in how things react when you add weight to an object. It makes adding in physics easy- but it also means you have to work around per-existing code. Its 100% possible but you might need to use a different configuration in one engine than you did in another. that's at least part of the problem with ports. I don't know the whole science behind a port but ideally when you port something you want to double check that A) your code is comparable in the new engine or B) you literally copy and past by creating an emulator that runs older code. The problem with a remaster is that you can't just copy and paste if you want to change something in a way that an older engine just isn't good at. Like lets say changing gun physics to be less clunky, or a new engine has options an older one doesn't (engines are updated pretty often so it makes sense that modern features are easier to add in than an engine from many years ago). So if you ever see a good port or remaster it just means they either did an emulation (no changed code at all, they just adapt it for modern software/hardware), or they made sure to change code in a way that makes sense, which takes a bit of skill. (its something they should have done from the get-go, but it was rushed. like i've said before getting the same results in a totally different/way more modern engine can be harder than it sounds, sometimes, it really just depends. since this project was heavily rushed i can imagine that a lot of code testing was overlooked even if some of the fixes aren't that relativly hard. this goes back to upper staff letting their devs to prioritize the wrong things. patches prove that the team does know how to fix things, they just weren't given the time or option to do it right in the first place) and the last note i'll add is that companies are the ones that hire devs in the first palce. So if they want good developers, they'd hire them. But some studios would rather have cheap labor than good labor, which i would still pin on the studio itself rather than the devs, since the supper staff are still the ones that decide who works for them, and if they want to fire people. and this doesn't even touch the iceberg of why Rockstar employed Grove Street and not a studio that is more qualified for making a remaster- again something higher staff decided on and not the developers.
You know, in Epic Mickey for the Wii, there was a room with murals and when you went near them, you actually heard a specific sound relating to the mural. That was over a decade ago and this remake couldn’t even keep beach ambience.

I purchased the OG San Andreas on PS4 but by the time I was gonna get GTA 3 and Vice City... Rockstar delisted them so I'm forever stuck with the Defective Edition
90s baby’s and early 2000s really had the best gaming era. Ps2, PS3, and Xbox 360! The new era only has graphics with only a small selection of good games. It’s quite sad honestly.
3:33 people don't realized the crucial part. In og trilogy, camera looks up when you fly up, and down when you fly down. In the definitive ed, camera only rotated horizontally. If your plane goes straight 90° up or down the camera still looks forward. This is a very VERY stupid design, since the camera function fine when you fly in a car with cheat
They just used the engine to take over the games art direction. This looks exactly like what would happen if you used unreal engine to run the games code and didn't change anything.

@@lilgame8996 Too bad that Rockstar already removed the original games from both consoles and PC just to force people who never bought the originals to buy the Defective Edition with countless bugs and laziness from Grove Street Games using the mobile ports instead of remaking it from scratch like with Mafia.
They bought back the originals but only through Rockstar Launcher and never on consoles.
I purchased the OG San Andreas on PS4 but by the time I was gonna get GTA 3 and Vice City... Rockstar delisted them so I'm forever stuck with the Defective Edition

3:33 people don't realized the crucial part. In og trilogy, camera looks up when you fly up, and down when you fly down.
In the definitive ed, camera only rotated horizontally. If your plane goes straight 90° up or down the camera still looks forward. This is a very VERY stupid design, since the camera function fine when you fly in a car with cheat

I can't believe that a game from the 2020's can be worse than a game from the 2000's.
They just used the engine to take over the games art direction. This looks exactly like what would happen if you used unreal engine to run the games code and didn't change anything.
