So, maybe the more accurate translation here should be like a "killer momentum". Therefore, it does not act quite like souls games stamina bars where you consume to preform actions and slowly recover over time, but in this game, you can fully and instantly recover your "sha chi" by a right timed parry, or by switching main weapons (which has a cooldown for balance reasons), while consuming the "sha chi" by passive actions like standard block moves.
This is tho. Go watch the Ign playthrough. He literally says, “it’s not your typical souls-like.” Meaning that it’s a Souls-like with there own twist on it. Cope 😂

The dual parry animation triggers when you execute an enemy and another one tries to attack you from the back. It is rather rare because it requires very specific positioning and this demo frankly didn't include too much segments where you can fight multiple enemies at the same time. I watched some vids from the content creators who went to Beijing for an early demo and only one of them was able to trigger it. I wonder if anyone will be able to capture some live footage today or tomorrow.
It’s gotta be similar to Arkham, Triangle to counter when more than one enemy attacks. For me, I don’t think that’s unreasonable to believe, with what else they’ve managed to accomplish with this combat.. I do feel like this combat will spoil us a little lol. I was fully expecting to hear that it’s ALL canned animations and the actual swords to sword clashing was part of some scene.. Really impressed! Hope the story is cool too 😢

Phatom Blade Zero never looked like a souls borne to me; it always looked like a hack and slash style adventure game so Im glad to hear its more of that than a souls borne. Im definitely sold.

The IGN hands on showcase they did with the devs today, they said they lowered the difficulty for the show. So i wonder if they did the same with journalists just to get a taste.
They actually had hats like that they would throw on targets then pull the rope it was attached to in order to trigger the blades and decapitate. I rememeber an episode of myth busters on it. It was in old Kung Fu movies
The kick-and-kill animation is indeed do-able (a Bilibili content creator 贞子菇凉 did it twice, witnessed by many other content creators, in a previous private session held in China), and it seems like that it needs the “minions” to be in some specific positions relative to the player when the execution animation starts. I guess it's somewhat like the combat animations as in old AC games, where it plays different execution animations if the conditions are met.
On a side note, from what I've heard, the playing combat animations should be interruptable by dashes and defense. It is also said that the defense actions won't break the flow of the attacking animation, so that the players can tap defense (or perfect-parry) in-between their attacks to parry off the attack and continue their aggressive attacks.

It's freaking ridiculous that people looked at this game and thought souls. This combat looks way more like old school action just like what they said which would be more Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry. Those old school action games played more like fighting games, combos and all.
No it's not "ridiculous" because the initial trailer and even the gameplay trailer was very much leaning into Sekiro but with QTE finishes.... That was literally the entire trailer. Nowhere in the trailer did I see DMC. Nowhere. It is, yet again, misleading Chinese marketing. Get ready because it's going to be happening more and more.

Like ship stamina in Skull and Bones. What's with giving inanimate objects stamina lately? But who knows, maybe they'll do it slick where it's not the weapon that has stamina, but different weapons use different muscles, so it's the actual characters stamina. Like when I go to the gym and do 5 sets of bench presses, the stamina level of my chest muscles is almost at 0, but that doesn't mean I can't squat as much as I normally do. Logically, that would make more sense, but then they'd have to get creative with the weapons so they weren't all arm wielded weapons.
As much of a “FromSoftie” I am and play lots of souls likes-I’m glad they’re wanting to take a different direction it’s good to find new trends and advancements in the industry-it just leads to more good games out there! I can see some might want to still compare it to the Soulslikes and Sekiro but I often wonder if it’s because FromSoft just came forward with their formula first and yeah ofc they set the bar high or else we wouldn’t have mega Miyazaki fans out there…like me! 😅.

1:44. I just watched the 10 minutes of footage. At first, I thought it looked like a hack n' slash, a la DMC/Bayonetta. But as it went on, I'm like, "It looks like a faster version of Sekiro." I'm definitely gonna have to try a demo at some point
Game looks awesome, can’t wait! Love souls games but more than anything I miss the days of classic god of wars and ninja gaidens. This seems to be exactly what I was looking for.
That bell weapon is actually a mythical weapon in chinese history. This was used by a squad secret imperial guards that only answers directly to the emperor. Interestingly no one actually knows how the weapon looks like, and records only says this weapon can behead enemies remotely.
30-40 hour games need to be the norm. My lifes too short to play all these 500 hour open world overwhelming games. As for this game the combat looks incredible i just hope the story has a punch
Sounds like it plays exactly how I wanted it too.. Don't want another souls like... Only with difficulty but... I think we will find it's difficult in a different way. Plus I play every game on hard mode for a longer experience and more of a better feeling when getting through it knowing it's on hard in the first place.... As soon as your used to it on hard your instantly good.. Or miles better at the game.. What draws me to this game is the combat and the traversal. It seems to be exactly what I always wanted from my perfect game.. Even more so than what wukong seems to offer in a similar light.. To be fair it makes sense that it's not hard on normal. Because there's probably allot to get used too. But if you want a challenge where the enemies are stronger.. Faster. And shorter windows.. Hard mode will likely be available for those people.. Like me.. Don't forget they just gave you a demo.. 🙏🏾.. One more question.. They let you play it but we still have no potential release date? @@drvnzer1128 The devs also said their 3 big inspirations were Bloodborne, Sifu, and Metal Gear Rising. And there is obviously a Sekiro influence in the game. Lots of mixed messaging from the devs but if you know Souls-likes, you know this game falls into that category. Sorry lil bro.
As a hardcore Souls gamer, I am so happy this game isn't one. So many were released these past years and with Shadow of the Erdtree plus Black Myth Wukong releasing this year, it feels refreshing to have a game that focuses on nice combos and agressive gameplay. My concern was that the animations looked too good to be true... I was skeptical at first when we saw the trailer, so I'm happy everything seems real. Looking forward.
If the game is like souls like , that would disappointing but I'm glad that devs said it's more like ninja gaiden and dmc , the nostalgia of pure horror and stress of ninja gaiden ever difficulty is pure adrenaline.

I really hope this a full on character action game. Stellar Blade also has "combos" and looked like it was going the DMC route but at the end of the day plays like a souls game. No shade to Souls Fromsoft is awesome but I'm tired of these action games defaulting to that style. We barely get games like DMC anymore.

Both styles are extremely fun to see ppl play for me. I like games that step outside of popularity. Never played devil may cry so I may play to prepare. This sounds so fun
@@aswaswasw2323 Unfortunately after seeing gameplay for myself it seems it plays like DMC in the loosest sense. Camera and lock on works like Souls not DMC so fighting multiple enemies at once might be discouraged or a janky nightmare (looking at you Stellar Blade). There's no launcher or aircombos which is DMC's whole thing. DMC's combat is also very technical with pause windows and motion inputs to do specific moves which there was no sign of during the Phantom Blade demo. Of course it was a tutorial demo so maybe it gets crazy later on but so far I'm not seeing the inspiration the devs on stage talked about. I guess the DMC inspiration just means the combat isn't slow and it has combos lol. Game still looks awesome but from what they showed so far I wouldn't use DMC when describing it.

I love Souls games but I’m with you.. I don’t need everything to be a Souls-like because Elden Ring sold a bazillion copies. I love a good DMC-like as well.. Which thankfully is what this game is like, with FromSoft level design (according to the devs).

No they said they lowered the difficulty for the demo not just the stage showcase, so yeah the demo everyone played was at a lower difficulty.
The demo is review purpose only the difficulty they showed was lowered it's max character level as well

But who knows, maybe they'll do it slick where it's not the weapon that has stamina, but different weapons use different muscles, so it's the actual characters stamina. Like when I go to the gym and do 5 sets of bench presses, the stamina level of my chest muscles is almost at 0, but that doesn't mean I can't squat as much as I normally do.
Logically, that would make more sense, but then they'd have to get creative with the weapons so they weren't all arm wielded weapons.
Those are called Phantoms in the game mechanics and they're more like special abilities you can use mid combat, hence the cooldown.

As much of a “FromSoftie” I am and play lots of souls likes-I’m glad they’re wanting to take a different direction it’s good to find new trends and advancements in the industry-it just leads to more good games out there! I can see some might want to still compare it to the Soulslikes and Sekiro but I often wonder if it’s because FromSoft just came forward with their formula first and yeah ofc they set the bar high or else we wouldn’t have mega Miyazaki fans out there…like me! 😅.

They lowered the difficulty for the demo. The devs said when they were previewing it. Also they have difficulty settings.

That bell weapon is actually a mythical weapon in chinese history. This was used by a squad secret imperial guards that only answers directly to the emperor. Interestingly no one actually knows how the weapon looks like, and records only says this weapon can behead enemies remotely.

30-40 hour games need to be the norm. My lifes too short to play all these 500 hour open world overwhelming games. As for this game the combat looks incredible i just hope the story has a punch

Sounds like it plays exactly how I wanted it too.. Don't want another souls like... Only with difficulty but... I think we will find it's difficult in a different way. Plus I play every game on hard mode for a longer experience and more of a better feeling when getting through it knowing it's on hard in the first place.... As soon as your used to it on hard your instantly good.. Or miles better at the game.. What draws me to this game is the combat and the traversal. It seems to be exactly what I always wanted from my perfect game.. Even more so than what wukong seems to offer in a similar light.. To be fair it makes sense that it's not hard on normal. Because there's probably allot to get used too. But if you want a challenge where the enemies are stronger.. Faster. And shorter windows.. Hard mode will likely be available for those people.. Like me.. Don't forget they just gave you a demo.. 🙏🏾.. One more question.. They let you play it but we still have no potential release date? Maybe so they can tweak it to perfection before release with the feedback from the likes of you. But.. I need to know when for the when

As a hardcore Souls gamer, I am so happy this game isn't one. So many were released these past years and with Shadow of the Erdtree plus Black Myth Wukong releasing this year, it feels refreshing to have a game that focuses on nice combos and agressive gameplay. My concern was that the animations looked too good to be true... I was skeptical at first when we saw the trailer, so I'm happy everything seems real. Looking forward.

I really hope this a full on character action game. Stellar Blade also has "combos" and looked like it was going the DMC route but at the end of the day plays like a souls game. No shade to Souls Fromsoft is awesome but I'm tired of these action games defaulting to that style. We barely get games like DMC anymore.
I totally agree with you buddy and i had the same feeling for stellar then i didn’t buy it when i played the demo .. we miss DMC / Ninja Gaiden vibes that type is almost dead (which is my fav) i still have faith in this one hope we wont be disappointed
Both styles are extremely fun to see ppl play for me. I like games that step outside of popularity. Never played devil may cry so I may play to prepare. This sounds so fun
@@aswaswasw2323 Unfortunately after seeing gameplay for myself it seems it plays like DMC in the loosest sense. Camera and lock on works like Souls not DMC so fighting multiple enemies at once might be discouraged or a janky nightmare (looking at you Stellar Blade). There's no launcher or aircombos which is DMC's whole thing. DMC's combat is also very technical with pause windows and motion inputs to do specific moves which there was no sign of during the Phantom Blade demo. Of course it was a tutorial demo so maybe it gets crazy later on but so far I'm not seeing the inspiration the devs on stage talked about. I guess the DMC inspiration just means the combat isn't slow and it has combos lol. Game still looks awesome but from what they showed so far I wouldn't use DMC when describing it.

How does this games look like a souls-like? I`m fed up of people keep comparing things to a bloody souls-like, they got it on the bloody brain. Too many souls-likes are being made, last year alone they were about 10 frig souls - likes.
