Not every third person combat game is a Souls-like. This looks great
But it is though, has many elements of Sekiro, nioh 2, metal gear rising, instead of mikiri/burst counter, you have perfect dodge and block. Attack animations are flashy but the lock on and the flow of combat is very similar. Soulslike doesnt just mean like dark souls 1, its the whole locked on deliberate 3rd person action combat that fromsoft brought to industry, its the best type of melee action and implementing it and adding your own flavor is just building on the best type of melee combat. Cant wait for this one, Stellar Blade and now this, we need more of Sekiro inspired combat

This is what a game show should be. Showcasting the demo instead of playing fake CG ads. You can see the confidence in the creators. Whatever the questions are, they will show the audience using the actual gameplay. No more words needed

It's basically a new genre which is basically what Sekiro/Jedi Survivor/Stellar Blade are. Others have coined the term "Souls-lite" or "Sekiro-like"

@@Astreon123 there's only three combo sets in ff16 in terms of basic attacks:
1.) square, triangle, square, triangle, square, triangle
2.) square, square, square, triangle
3.) square, square, square, square
The two combos ended with triangle finished with phoenix fire with push impact, and the most basic was all square combo was just all blade attacks.
But you can do a combo as well with the powers of different Eikons too, by attacking opponents simultaneously using different powers with different Eikons equipped. Loved that game, it was 🔥🔥🔥!
Ff16 is very flashy but the combat lets me down a bit this seems like something true to form of a hack and slash
@@Beamken it lacks in combat variation in terms of basic attack movements, there's no way you can learn different combos in your basic attack. what makes it more fun was the use of Eikons powers. Aside from story, combat, hunts, there's no other interaction like doing something in the environment, like sort of activity, the map was huge but it makes you only feel wow by the looks of it, not by interacting with some of it as well.
FYI, the flail like weapon that last boss uses is called 血滴子 or Flying Guillotine, a legendary Chinese ranged weapon used during the reign of the Yongzheng Emperor in the Qing Dynasty.
The weapon resembled a disc or flattened dome with a bladed rim and a chain or rope attached to the weapon's top, allowing it to be wielded as a bladed flail or thrown like a flying buzz saw. According to legend, the weapon's deadliest feature, and the source of it's English name, was its ability to decapitate a victim by being thrown on top of their head. Once landing, a pressure switch in the disk's underside would release the rim to fall over the head and encase it in a silken trap. A tug on the chain would then trigger concealed blades along the interior of the rim to swing out and cut through the neck. There is also evidence that the weapon may have been soaked in deadly poison before use, such that it can kill a person immediately when blood is drawn (literally "at the sight of a drip of blood"), which gives rise to its Chinese name 血滴子.

Definitely sick of either DMC combo/points heavy games (like Bayonetta too) or incredibly slow paced 1 shot games like souls-like.
We definitely need more games that are in the middle like this or Ghost of Tsushima.
Team Ninja have been doing this for years with Nioh, Wo Long, Strangers of Paradise and the latest one, Rise of the Ronin

To anyone who's angry at Sekiro/soulslike comparisons:
Like it or not - this is what happens when only one dev in the "prestige" space makes a certain type of game for a decade with nobody else to challenge them. People will compare with what they know best and what they know best is what they see the best. Don't expect every single gamer to be a gaming historian with 10+ years of active research into the medium and it's genres and subgenres.
A lot of the people who say "This is like Sekiro" don't even know what Tenchu is, even though Sekiro started as a reboot of it, but ended up as Tenchu with a combat that was developed to have a better flow and that's fine. (To those who haven't played Tenchu: It's basically like Sekiro but with a mission structure, usually ending with a boss fight that you can either fight "honourably" or "cheat" with items)
People compare with what's in on the now and the fact is - FromSoft have been dominating this sphere while other Japanese devs fell behind. Platinum haven't put out anything on the level of REvengeance in ages, even though they did the whole parry mechanic better than Sekiro (this isn't an argument) in terms of combat flow.
Remember - there were times when every PS2 action game was called a "DMC clone" and every fixed camera angle horror game - a Resident Evil clone. It's just how things work. Yeah it pisses me off as well but it is what it is.
So don't bother with anger, rather - support games that you like and don't bother with other stuff.

Combat looks like it will be the best on the market. All they have to do is nail the story. Nonetheless, Phantom Blade, Wukong, and Stellar Blade are all great examples of the hidden talent in Asia. Hopefully, Sony reinvests more in Asian developers.

The weapon that the last boss in this demo has is the same one that was used on Bushido Brown by the leader of the Hateocracy in The Boondocks!
In fact, this is a sequel to a series of games called 雨血 in 2008. The Western translation should be called "Rainblood: Town of Death", all with the same protagonist and worldview setting.

Combat looks better than anything From Software ever made.
Hong Kong wuxia films have done this combat for decades. Crouching Tiger is child play when it comes to action choreography compared to the old 1990s Hong Kong wuxia films. This game just putting those Hong Kong wuxia combats in a game which is great to see.
The big heavy sword gameplay is amazing. That alone is enough to get this game.

It is not a soulslike but it really is similar to sekiro, if you played sekiro you will definitely see the similarity in combat. The mist the character here uses is close to the mist raven sekiro uses in the game when dodging.

This game is about style, this is not a souls like.
To be a soul-like game you need to have these 2 features : 1. limited ressources (health or mana), once it’s consumed you need to rest to get all ressources back. 2. Rest point (fire camp), when you rest all enemies spawn back (except Boss once killed).
The game loop is you need to go from point A to B with the limited ressources. You need to find the next rest point to progress in the game.
There are many different kind of soul-like with different mechanics : Nioh, Sekiro, Code Vein, Tunic, Stellar Blade those are all soul-like games.
Nioh, sekiro, and stellar blade aren't soulslike when it comes to combat
Ninja Gaiden had such mechanics a whole two generations before Souls games.

Great demo. When the sequel drops though, id like to suggest considering ditching the white dot on enemies and also enemies shoukdnt disappear when defeated. Otherwise no complaints, other then we want a demo on PS5.

Really digging the showcased mechanics. Nothing individually groundbreaking, but it comes together very nicely, and avoids a lot of the pitfalls many modern action games fall into. Looking forward to it.
Gameplay looks refreshing. Those who are comparing it with Sekiro haven't played Ninja Gaiden or never heard of Ninja Gaiden. If you want to compare the game so bad, then at least you can compare it with Ninja Gaiden and DMC.

The thing that really stands out to me is the awesome blade clashing sounds. Makes the combat sound very engaging and very wuxia movie style!

The phantom system seems like something id want in sekiro 2, switching to multiple different arm weapons on the fly, sekiro really did open the door to a whole other genre next to dark souls

enemy ai is not great maybe it's in demo mode. but the movement and combat animation is great
They told the demo is much easier compared to the real game because they want to show the combat.
