Thx u for your videos. They have been very informative and helping me make my decision in changing careers from 25yrs of executive driving in the entertainment business. Ride shares companies like Uber & Lyft have killed the industry. I love driving and I’ve driven long hrs & cross country in the past. So that’s why I’m considering trucking....I’m researching these schools to obtain my CDL....Prime Inc, Roehl ,CRST Expedited, SAGE, ROAD MASTERS ,PAM,KLLM.. I trying to decide which school will help me reach my goals. I’m. 50yrs old with All grown kids. So I want to be out 8wks at a time then 5days home. I’m looking to Drive OTR & Learn the business as a company driver for the 1st year. Averaging 3500 k miles a wk. 125k miles a yr! Then Become a lease/Operator for 2-3yrs, learning the business & building my business credit. Then after 3yrs Finance a truck on my own to become A Owner/Operator! Then build my own small fleet of 3-5 trucks. Please let my know yours thoughts on CDL schools, and which company will help me reach these goals.
Lol it's funny you think as a rookie you'll get 3500 a week...more like 1800-2500. Especially with all the companies you mentioned....only company you will get more miles with is CRSt cause they are a team operating company, keep in mind tho you only get paid for half of those miles with CRST
You dont make more, you work more so it seems like more. I work for Prime long time as a company driver/trainer/instructor that was awesome Prime is awesome no matter company or lease. I left to be home every night as a local fuel hauler. P.s. anyone that signs a lease is taking huge chance for very small odds that it will be beneficial
I was told not to get my permit before orientation but to wait and just go thru the class for all. Is this true? I'm looking at a jan. bus ride to Springfield. Just filled out my application. It's got to be better than the construction business now. Being away from home is fine. I'm single hoping this is the way to go.
I'm looking into taking the exact same path. Do you feel like you are offered as many miles as you can handle? And do you think the dispatchers play favorites with the company guys?
FYI company reefer is .44 a mile. You can take a max 4 days off although they aren't extremely strict on this. I will be with prime a year the end of October. I went company out of training so I can learn the ropes and be more efficient. If I stick with prime at the end of my year I'm considering lease. I may leave trucking all together though. Not sure yet. Do you think the amount you make as a lease driver is worth the costs associated with it? Do you know what your yearly income is after taxes? Can you order a new truck for your first lease? I got a brand new full size freightliner out of training. Would hate to have to go with an older one with the lease. Thanks for the video.
Would your LLC you can build credit so you could buy houses and change your own oil under your LLC adjust your own breaks if you’re certified a lot of things you can do to save money using your corporation
I recommend you get a really good inverter and get a freezer instead of fridge raider so you can freeze your dinners and put them in the microwave so on your home time you can make good home cooked dinners and freeze them or buy frozen dinners so all you have to do is stick it in the microwave you can also freeze water take it out put it on the floor as it falls out you have Coldwater
I believe that prime has gone to ordering almost all automatic trucks at this point but there may still be some manuals in the mix. The home time is better for lease drivers because you can go whenever you want and stay almost as long as you want as long as you can make your weekly truck payments which tend to be over $1000 when you add it all up. I am no longer with prime I left in September of 2018 and I now drive for Carvana and get to be home every night while making much better money.
Hey hey!! We re joining prime in a few weeks. I do have a few questions that I hope you can answer 4 me. I see you put $4000 a month towards your payment for your truck. Is that higher than the amount that your supposed to pay? And also did u put any money down on the truck? How much did your truck cost? In the trucker groups we re a part of they make it seem like the older trucks break dwn less...
If you lease through Prime you can either do a traditional lease and turn the truck in at the end or walk away before you complete it like I did or you can do a lease purchase. Since I did a regular lease I only made the required weekly payment on the truck and left after I completed my 1 year training contract. I believe the truck would have cost around 145-150,000 to buy at least according to the contract from Prime. The truck I had was a 2018 and was very reliable but the older trucks before they started installing the def systems on them are less likely to break down due to a computer or emissions issue. Prime does not have any trucks any where near that old in the company or lease fleets but if you come in as an owner operator with your own truck that is the only way to get a truck that old while working for Prime.
Hey do you take your truck home to Atlanta? As a lease, does a company driver get to take truck home or do you have to leave it at a terminal. I'm getting ready to get started I should be coming to Missouri for training but I live in Florida, hope you will subscribe to my channel I'm a rookie just getting started thanks in advance for your response
I’m not sure but they will likely run you pretty hard to keep you busy and making them as much money as possible but since I never did company with prime I’m not sure.
Yes. The lease is through Prime so you just turn the truck back in early. They will inspect it and tell you any repair they believe it needs that you are responsible for and then you may leave like I did or I am sure hey would be happy to move you to the company side if you want to stay. If you get your license with them and leave before your full year is up you will owe the full cost of your training as I do which is over $3000 and they do not prorate it for time served. They will do a payment plan though.
Years ago when I was with prime instead of waiting for a truck I took one that was pre-owned and someone had animals in the truck stank thought I could clean it out never did I highly recommend going with the new truck with new smell since you live in it 24 hours a day but my dad got cancer I had eight more months on my lease and had to give it up lost everything I worked for to take care of my dad that sucked
Just subscribed... good info on Prime. Question: you mentioned about emergency fund and them pulling certain things from that like if u decided to go in vac etc... but then you said your check would be short... can you use your emergency fund to pay your truck payment if your check is short so that way you don’t fall in the whole? Thanks again for the info
I don't know the average per month but I know that a lot of team lead seat drivers bring in 6 figures pretty easily after paying their co-driver so if you are sharing the income as a couple I imagine it would be even greater as you are not paying a second independent driver to work for the lead seat driver.
Nobody wants to answer them questions because you will not like the answers. Leasing is primes way of having you pay for the truck and them paying you less in the end.
well i am glad that you had a good experience with Prime, me on the other hand did not have the luck i guess because i couldnt remember a date i was told by Derek i wont put last name said i was being dishonest with him so again gratz with everything and i loved the video would have been nice to see for my self
You just think you're getting 72% of the broker line haul. What you dont see is what the broker pays the company ... Broker could pay the company say 15,000 dollars , company gonna then only show you the pays say 2100 and thats what you get the 72% of ..
It's contract freight not broker freight and yes they do see what the customer is charged copies of invoices sent to the customer are included in the driver's weekly settlements.
Warranty does as long as it is a failed part and not driver negligence. If you put def in the diesel tank and they can prove it for example that will likely be on you.
Question, Can you spec and order truck you desire? Can you order a Manual vs. Auto? You are the 1st person to mention that the trucks are restricted by the actual number!!! Thank you for sharing, Great Info!!
@ Cameron ragsdale. Did you say that even if you go company you are responsible for $2500.00 worth of equipment. I’m scheduled to report to prime on the 24th of September but that might change my mind
$862 - $948 per week starting (brand new trucks, it drops as the truck ages), and percents are 71% for a tanker and 72% for a flatbed or refrigerated. I actually have that tab open from prime on their website. Maybe actually check before you tell everyone you don't know what you're talking about
I recommend you start your own corporation when you go owner operator so you can put your fuel money on your corporation card building your credit within your corporation so you can buy houses in vehicles and equipment from within your own corporation
Keep in mind if you go LLC you cannot represent yourself in court and you must hire an expensive corporate lawyer. If your assets are less than your states allowed bankruptcy exemptions then don’t worry about it. 99% of people in the trucking industry are completely protected by the exemptions.
So if you started a corporation you could change your own oil under your own corporation you could have your own fuel card building credit under your corporation paying off the truck under the corporation will build your credit under the corporation this will allow you to start your own fleet or your own business laterWith a really really good credit
Hello Cameron, I’m gonna be going into prime in August and I can’t decide to go company or lease at first, I had a question as too much how much down you had to put to start your lease? That is my deciding factor lol I’ve watched hundreds of videos from juniourhonduras to truckerbrown and I can’t seem to find that info anywhere, any info will help thanks!
Kyle Remillard Hey Kyle. You don’t actually have to put anything down to do a conventional lease like I am. Prime owns the truck and you are basically renting it from them on a weekly basis but are on a 3-4 year contract. Thanks for the reply! Is that a walk away lease and how much $ would you recommend saving up before starting a lease for day to day operations ex tolls, lumper fees, fuel and food or does your card double as a credit kind of situation? Appreciate all the info man stay safe out there.
It is a walk away lease. Cost wise lumpers you pay with comm checks which Prime gives you and I believe they pull from your check each week when you use one. Fuel is paid for using your Prime ID which is a comdata card. Tolls are paid by prime and then deducted from your check each week. I just posted the video about your question and went into more detail. I hope to see you out on the road in a couple months.
As a lease driver do you have to pay for broken parts of the truck. Example air compressor, pressure sensors, gauges etc. I am interested in going for flatbed with Prime. Thanks
I was actually filming a new video when you asked this so the answer is in that video as well. For the most part no not out of pocket but you are generally not compensated for downtime so you end up paying on that front. Most parts on the truck are covered under warranty and the majority of Prime’s trucks are under warranty.
Thanks again for the quick reply. I'll check out that video too. 2 more questions lol. What is like to set up a LLC for the trucking company? Do you have to study for the Georgia CDL or the Missouri CDL on Primes website? Thanks
Setting up the LLC is easy I got Abicus CPA’s which have an office in Primes Springfield terminal to do mine so it was very easy. The CDL permit test is the same for GA and MO. I read the GA book and Prime will give you the MO book if you go to orientation and get your permit through them. You don’t have to retest to transfer the license back to GA you just pay the license fees.

If you choose this Company be prepared to be docked for a ungodly amount of time at alot of their shippers not just one, and good luck avoiding the meat loads

What do you think is best for routes for rookies?
It’s been 20 years since I drove what are they doing with logbooks these days

I'm from Italy and I don't have a green card or anything. Who can I talk to that can help me? TY
If you have a mechanical problem who's gonna fix it you(the driver) or the company would send you a mechanic ?
Can you get out of the Lease if you are not doing well?
Yes. The lease is through Prime so you just turn the truck back in early. Yes prime will pay to get there discount and then pull it from your paycheck.

Lol the same here
As a lease driver do you have to pay for broken parts of the truck. Example air compressor, pressure sensors, gauges etc. I am interested in going for flatbed with Prime. Thanks
I was actually filming a new video when you asked this so the answer is in that video as well.
