  • Quick video to show how one of my SAS-12's look with the addition of a Mossberg 500 6-position collapsible pistol grip stock. I have a few other things in the works for these shotguns. The SAS-12 in this video with the collapsible stock also has a refinished receiver for a cleaner look. These are great shotguns with tons of potential!
    Centerfire Systems now offers these in a 24" model AND a new 26" model. You can also select whether you want brown or black furniture on the newer 26 inch models. Both of the ones in this video are the original 24" models. Thanks for watching!

      These are great shotguns for the price, for sure. If price is not important, there are better options, like Saiga 12's and similar shotguns, but these are great. Some of them require a little bit of fine-tuning (similar to Saiga 12's), but they end up running very well with all types of ammo if you do a few small things at home to improve them. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I do my best to reply to comments. Thanks for watching!

    Can the barrel be replaced with a commercially available replacement (mossberg 500 barrel) instead of cutting it down yourself?

    • @kcghostt
      @kcghostt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to find a compatible barrel. The price of a complete SAS-12 ($139) is cheaper than some replacement barrels. Mossberg 500 barrel does not have the gas port or anything you would need for semi auto function, though, even if it would fit. Better off picking up a complete spare gun for $139 and youll have a spare barrel, trigger group, extractor, bolt, extra mags, etc.

  • @cletussd
    @cletussd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wonder if the gas port will need to be opened up when you take the barrel down to 18inches.

    • @kcghostt
      @kcghostt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      cletussd I'm assuming it will but it may not need it. there will still be a decent amount of barrel past the port for pressure. it's not a big deal either way, though. eventually I'm going to shorten one even further and chop the entire gas system down as well.

      Absolutely. I own 3 of the original 24" models they sell. They have all ran reliably right out of the box with good defense ammo like buckshot and slugs. For about $180 in my hands, I have no complaints or regrets. There is a lot you can do to these guns. hi, I just used the same pistol grip as yours and can't stand that gap, heard ya say you had something in the works and figured I'd compare notes. I was going to use that j b weld putty and stuff it in the gap after covering the grip and gun in plastic wrap. Then file and sand the rough spots smooth and paint black to make a filler. What were your plans? I'd rather not make that much of a mess but I know it will work so I was hoping you had a better idea?

    • @christopherbordelon5960
      @christopherbordelon5960 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Walter, dont use JB Weld unless this is going to be permanent and even still I would not use it. Instead use some Bondo All Purpose Putty. Its just like Bondo Body Filler but this is not as heavy. It can be used to repair just about anything as well as filling gaps and cracks, or fabricating parts. Ive used this stuff on a couple of guns to fill in some gaps and it works great. You can also sand it down real easy if you use too much to get the perfect fit. I dont know what a gunsmith would say about this but you can get a quart of this stuff for around $15 at your local home improvement store like Lowe's or Home Depot. If you dont have one of those Amazon has it as well.

      I'm messing around with a 3D printed adapter plate at the moment. Trying to talk a couple of companies into producing a polymer or machined aluminum plate that makes Mossberg 500 pistol grip stocks look factory by filling in the gaps, for a budget price just like the gun.

    Did you ever do the video for the install of the stock? I have the original version of the SAS12 imported by Omega in the mid 90s. Would love to put a nicer butt on them -- they offered a version with a Choate-style stock, but never sold it to "civilians" due to the AWB.

    • @kcghostt
      @kcghostt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't do a video but its relatively simple. Just need thread adapters. Its a single bolt going through the stock just like a standard shotgun.

      I found an auction for the Omega, pretty cool. I also have a factory photo of the three versions Omega had planned to sell, two with the Choate MK5 style stock. One of them was a "police" version with a 14" bbl.

      Yeah, I will get back to it. At the time I was uploading these SAS-12 videos last year and planning more videos with other things, my mother was at the end of her battle with Cancer. She passed away two weeks after this video, and everything got chaotic with taking care of things, moving her stuff and what not, so I got sidetracked from my plans. I have a few videos planned for the summer, though. That's why I sound so exhausted in this video. I was taking care of her so she could be at her own home when she passed away. I was taking breaks to come home to my family back and forth, and doing quick videos while I was here to take my mind off of things.

    Did you have to do any extra fitting or anything in order to get that stock to work? I'm contemplating buying one and getting just a mossberg pistol grip installed on it and also reducing the barrel length to around 19 or 20 whichever keeps it over 24 inches in length so it's still legal.

I opened the hole in the pistol grip slightly with the dremel just enough so the bolt would fit through. I took the thread adapter with me to make sure the bolts I grabbed would work right. Darrnell Brown there is no working drum at the moment, however, you could fabricate something to make a drum work in these. You would basically need something like a Vepr 12 drum that uses a magwell tower on the drum and the upper part of the factory SAS-12 magazine to build one.

    • @kcghostt
      @kcghostt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darrnell Brown Thanks. I'm glad people appreciate them. I refinished one of mine with Duplicolor Engine Enamel part number DE1634 which has ceramic in it. Looks great and holds up to heat and cleaners. Baked it in the oven after spraying it. Didn't care enough to go all out with Cerakote. There are 10+ round magazines for the MKA1919 that can be made to work with these, with very little effort. They have polymer sections that basically attach to the bottom and extend them. Look into the clam shell MKA magazines.

    • @kcghostt
      @kcghostt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darrnell Brown also, no, I cut the pistol grip one in the video down to 18" and it still functions fine. It's very easy to drill the gas port slightly larger if needed, though.

      As soon as I receive a response as to how many parts of this shotgun are countable for 922r, I will post them on AKFiles. I honestly wasn't even thinking about 922r at first with this shotgun, but am used to dealing with it on other "evil" rifles and shotguns. I've done my own count and as far as I know, it's NOT compliant in this configuration with the magazine inserted. 922r was originally put in place to keep importers from bringing in what they consider "assault weapons" and it kind of spilled over into what people can and can't do to their own weapons. Your average gun owner has never even heard of 922r. I think this is why nobody has ever been prosecuted for violating it. It wasn't meant for individuals. It''s all nonsense just like everything NFA.

      Yes sir. I have 3 of these, so it's not going to kill me to keep the magazine out of this experimental one until I receive clarification. Rules are rules, after all, and we as responsible law-abiding gun owners do everything we can to follow them to a T.
