The 10 Best Songs of the 1980s - เพลง
The Cure needed to be on there.
Its in 11 or 12 place - just like heaven
I have Boys dont cry and A Forest in my top 10. I think you can consider Boys dont cry an 80s song, not?
This is a bold task to take on, there really are no right answers. So many genres and musical movements in the 80's it's really impossible to pick a top 10 of 80's music that will satisfy anyone, at least Prince is your number one though.
Intergalactic Post-Apocalyptic Sex Boat nah this is all still biased someone is gonna thing differently
AbraRf that was basically what s/he said…
AbraRf yeah that's pretty much what I said. My list probably wouldn't have any of these songs on it, but I don't think I would even try to make a top 10 80's song list, just too many songs from different genes to pick only 10.
No cure ?
Lily Bowie you make it seem like they were the biggest band, which they weren'.t (but great, yes)
Lily Bowie Just Like Heaven was number 12 though
I saw the full list, it was number 12
As soon as Robert Smiths dies The Cure is going to be at the top of all 80's charts.
"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" -- that's in my list of all-time best songs and certainly at the top of my '80s list.
laughstrong my favorite is "Head over Heels"…
PJ Head over heels is way better than Everybody wants to rule the world.
@@RayasNegroOvejas you must be an Donnie Darko fan
Sowing the seeds of love is a classic of theirs
adore Tears for Fears
No matter what mood I'm in, whenever I hear "Hounds of Love", I feel an unrelenting urge to state wistfully out a window. It's caused a couple car accidents
Where's Lil Boat?
Smh they always keeping out legends
Low key pissed they did.
No teenage riot?
Ryan Lam Seriously, I think it's up there with the greatest PERIOD.
In Pichfork's Top 200 list, it is # 15. Yeah, one of the seed-songs of the 90s rock revival cannot be ignored.
no kanye wow unsubbed
kayne was a baby in the eighties
he's still a baby
Where's Beyonce and Frank Ocean?
OK... What about Kanye?
R. Pneumo what about him?
Well, it ain't a Pitchfork list if there's no 'Ye on it? Right?
R. Pneumo lol 😂
They dickride Beyonce more....
Where's Sonic Youth?
Edit: And Pixies???
Although both really good bands I didn't think they made the list because they didn't have too much of a cultural impact during that time period
Sebastian Crowe But their influences would bleed very heavily into the next decade. There isn't a band in the 90's that didn't cite Pixies and Sonic Youth as an influence
Teen Age Riot's #15 on the full list on Pitchfork
Never gonna give you up isnt on here either
@@sebastiancrowe2586 this ain't Rolling Stone magazine, I 100% guarantee you that 2007 Pitchfork would've put Teen age riot #1
What about The Killing Moon ?
I knew Talking Heads was going to be on here somewhere
solid list, but idk about that Michael jackson choice.
Maztuhmind he deserves to be on this list
I definitely wasn't expecting that pick. They sure didn't go with one of the obvious choices. But it's a really strong cut, and it's cool to see it getting some love on one of these best-of lists for a change.
WHY MJ again first ? Its not the picture its the music and lyrics first then the picture and emotions no fanfare and no dancing(i adore dancing). Its Prince finally and he deserves it as a Mozart should be.
Teenage Riot? Rise Above? Gigantic?
in the full list, teenage riot was number 15, and pixies were 14
cant be mad at this list this is a really difficult task
WHYYYYY NO CURE???????!!!!!!!
cocteau twins.....
This list was awesome.
NEEDS MORE SYNTHPOP
No R.E.M. no Replacements no Pixies no Cure no Sonic Youth...what is this?
a list with only 10 slots
@@Ryanbrio
No. 200 list at the website
It's BeYoND mE great. I’m talking about the video right here
@@Ryanbrio
It is the top 10. The rest of the ranking is at the website. Get it.
@@itsbeyondme5560 that’s valid, but not relevant. Are you sure you understand what I’m saying?
Pixies? Sonic Youth? Cure? More Smiths?
"Shadrach" by the Beastie Boys needed to be on this list because it started the layered hip-hop sampling that followed in the 90s.
So when did Pitchfork become Rolling Stone?
actually rolling stone is cooler and younger than the pitchferk
#4 The New Order, I agree with you
They got this thing in reverse.
Of all the best record lists per decade that Pitchfork has ever done, that's the one that most resembles mine.
Is it just me, or does the little Pitchfork intro sound like the first few notes from "Lips Like Sugar" by Echo and the Bunnymen?
Good Lord, a good Pitchfork list.
As someone who was actually alive and buying albums & singles in the 1980's I'd argue that "Purple Rain" isn't even Prince's best song, much less the best song of the decade. But it's all subjective.
I just liked because of MJ :)
Once in a lifetime is from 1980 not 1981
no stone roses?
I think The Beautiful Ones is better than Purple Rain
you should have put list in the description
Tom waits?
WAIT WHAT? #1 ISN'T TEENAGE RIOT?!
pitchfork visual is the fucking best !
the best 80s song is billie jean from michael jackson
"sonic innovation across al genres", yes let's just focus on rap and alt rock
micaela gonzalez mostly alt rock.... I feel like the 80s was more cultural then just white alt rock.... right?
Half of this list is neither of these though. The top 6 is mostly other music
Midi interface is invented while making the song blue monday, so yea, thats a Sonic innovation. also the synth used in Love will tear us apart is DIY'ed by band member and was the beginning of the new DIY electronic era.
10. Indie pop
9. Hip hop
8. Post punk
7. Post punk
6. Art pop
5. Hip hop
4. Synth pop
3. Hip hop
2. Pop
1. Pop rock or rnb I guess
So no it’s not just hip hop and alt rock
"Billy Jean" over "Wanna Be Startin Something" honestly...
And "When Doves Cry" over "Purple Rain"
Love Will Tear Us Apart is number 1 in my book.
Swap 'when doves cry' for #1 and not a bad list.
Well that was predictable
It's worth noting that around 1984/5 Chicago gave birth to House Music & Detroit gave us Techno - that's far more relevant to a progressive, innovative 80s soundscape than a pop-chart smash like "Thriller".
whatever the ride, the ending of this video is what I completely agree with
def leppard or journey or queen??
how choice?
de lo mejor
“Don’t you want me” HANDS DOWN
Once In A Lifetime is fine, but Crosseyed and Painless and Houses in Motion off same album are fantastic
Africa - Toto?
Needs more Robert Smith.
No Metallica or Iron Maiden?
I am not surprised nor am I mad at pitchfork for not adding holiday in Cambodia by the dead kennedys but it would have been a change considering every other top ten list does the same.
falco? :(
i would set sign o the times album all of it cause its Prince Magnus Opus not purple rain. Thta albus sets the end of classic rnb musicality and music of the 80s. Then hop hop/ electronic emerged in everywhere (loved it). SSOT is an amazing rock/pop/gospel/funk/jazz album within an rnb flavour for musicians and good hear music listeners
Hey, have you guys ever heard of a band called Rush? The top 3 don't belong on this list.
waiting for a girl like you is a top 5 more.
I can't disagree.
No Pixies? Give it up, p4k
My Kate Bush is alive
I feel like I'm watching these just to disagree with them
Where's Carly Rae Jepsen ?????
Ikr they also forgot about Kanye
I was hoping #1 would be "I would die 4 u" by Prince, but I can settle with Purple Rain haha
Top ten best grains of sand on the beach.
Only heard of two of these songs
Fix yo life.
90's music > 80's music
Alt Esc the music of your youth > the music of everyone else's youth ;)
Alt Esc There is too much great music in both decades to make that definitive of a statement.
Brandon Williams How
Never heard any of those except MJ and Prince lol
Wes Ramsey Then you’ve been living under a literal rock
Well Sorry maybe I only heard the hit songs of the 80's
Pretty much all of these songs were popular. Blue Monday is the best selling single of all time...
You’re never heard fight then power or love will tear us apart ? Bruh
#1 is only one right
no walking on sunshine?
Or Total Eclipse Of The Heart..
Hallowed Be Thu Name by Maiden. Assimilate or Smothered Hope by Skinny Puppy. Disintegration by the Cure. 2 of Hearts by Stacy Q
Ground breaking stuff
Fine Young Cannibals
Disagreed with a few of the songs here, but Pitchfork is entitled to their own opinion.
The most divisive decade, That's right. But the most diverse decade? Nah, False proposition. The most diverse decade is the 70's, exactly.
I really think pixies should have been on this list..
Careless Whisper. West End Girls. Relax. True. Africa. Time After Time.
Are you sure this songs aren't some of the best of 80s?:
Promise (No Rome)
Somebody (Depeche Mode)
Return to Innocence (Enigma)
return to innocence is 90s.
Guessing that number one is a guy who died recently
daydream nation?????
Kate Bush is not as known as she should be with this generation
fortunately that has changed....a bit
I think "Billie Jean" was more influential (and a better song) than "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin". Black music was mostly absent from MTV before then. Also, "When Doves Cry" >> "Purple Rain".
I believe Thriller was the best song by MJ
Come on now, MJ was supposed to be number 1 here.
WHY MJ again first ? Its not the picture its the music and lyrics first then the picture and emotions no fanfare and no dancing(i adore dancing too). Its Prince finally and he deserves it as a Mozart should be as this MF did that album alone with no Quincy Jones or help.
A flock of seagulls????
A decade where heavy metal is just as pivotal and popular as new wave yet no metal makes the list. Pitchfork what do you have against metal???
Bad clothes, too much noise and fans who looks like having a I.Q under 100 and more.. but that’s just the popular opinion on the genre it’s the same thing with video games and cartoons.. heck anime is on that list too except Studio Ghibli.. in short snobbery .. “ PS I personally isn’t a big fan of metal but I do respect it for it’s technically skills and the passion for the music and the fans for good and I’ll..
@@bacht4799
I can literally take your response about metal and apply it to any sub genre of music. Rap/Country/Punk-New Wave/etc...
C'mon guys no On a Friday??
Teen age riot?
please do 90s next
It ain't akon tho
If something from Thriller or Purple Rain isn't number one I riot
Edit: Yes, I agree. #1 and #2
I'm pretty sure the hair metal was just as big as rap and where the hell is cure ?
It’s just a lot of hair metal was pretty bad. It’s not what was big, it’s what good.
WHERE THE FUCK IS AFRICA BY TOTO
this must be. a personal view ....??????????????
Everyone who worked at pitchfork voted on the list
No Phil Collins or The Police?
listen 1999 and then listen sussudio...ok i get it
Metallica's One!!!!!!!!!!!
no stevie wonder? Seriously?
he should be 3rd
What? No Careless Whisper? Guilty feet has got no rhythm!! 🤣
Wtf pitchfork
Ikr they forgot about Kanye
WHERE IS BLACK FLAG?
Where are Melvins, Bad Brains, Swans, Sonic Youth?
I'm ok with pop music don't get me wrong , but the musical innovation of the 80s is much wider than pop, hip-hop and dance.
1 female artist out of 10? Seriously...
who cares?
Not a bad list, lacks diversity though
are you upset because u caught your dad holding hands with another man?
Sold Crack on Paypal I'm upset because diversity is a buzzword made up by philosophical cretins to virtue signal to the internet cool kids table you commie
MrYouarethecancer wow you probably thought you were so fucking smart with that dumbass reply
MrYouarethecancer saying a remark that you think is intelligent and then just adding “you commie” just deflated any self respect you think you may have earned.
