I have both from when I was a kid and love both. But the 84-85' Star #101 is without question Jordan's rookie card. Fleer 86-87' made in his 3rd year is not.
-Star was the only officially licensed company in his rookie year.
-It is a base professional card. Not an insert or collegiate card.
-It was never "reprinted" by Star as rumors suggest.
There is absolutely no reason to call the Fleer #57 his RC except so many more people own it, so it's in their best interest to pretend it is. The Fleer is beautiful but not a RC. Thanks for a great video!

I agree. I have both and the Star 101 is definitely his Only and True Rookie Card. Created 3 years before the Fleer. Collectors dont want to recognize it because they cant get their hands on it because of only approximately 2000 of them being made and the rarity of it. While there are hundreds of thousands of the 1986 Fleer out there. You figure you had a chance of pulling a t least 3 Jordan's in a Wax Box. So it's easier for everyone to say the 1986 is his rookie because they can get one of these bit they cant get the 101. It's just selfish and foolish out of them. And actually what most people dont know is the 5x7 Court King was the first card of Jordan. I even have the Wichita Eagle Beacon Michael Jordan that was made before even these two that has him still playing for UNC.

@@jebbthetrainkid1281 you're so smart to mention the Star 5x7" court kings too. I just bought a BGS 8 of that court kings at the national a few months ago. Also super low population and a great investment. I own the Fleer #57 as well but I certainly don't pretend it's his RC.

@@freedomfight1933 Thanks. I've also got the 1983-85 Wichita Eagle Beacon Clip & Save Michael Jordan that has him for the UNC Tarheels still. Some people may not consider these Cards but it's actually the very 1st Card of MJ. It is recognized in the hardcover book that Beckett put out several years ago devoted to Michael Jordan and his cards and collectibles.

@@jebbthetrainkid1281 I'm just not sure about collegiate stuff value wise compared to actual professional RCs. I think they're really cool from a collector and fan prospective. But I think the Star Co stuff has incredible potential from an investor standpoint.

second is a Spanish card.. true?

Actually MJs 1st Officially Licensed Card is from Star. It's not the 101, it's his 5x7 Court Kings. As far as the 1984/85 Bulls Set you can figure the total amount of Team sets produced were way closer to 2000. Star Co. printed the Most Popular Teams around 5000 Sets and the Least Popular Teams around 2000 Sets. The Bulls were not a Popular Team back then. I have almost every Star Co. Basketball Card made back in the 1980s. To me these Sets are the greatest sets ever made. They not only have Jordan's True Rookie Card but also Isiah Thomas, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Akeem Olijuwan, John Stockton to just name a few along with many others. They definitely filled the void between those missing years and they should get way more credit than they do. I think the problem is why many people dont want to recognize Star Co. cards is because of their true rarity and most collectors cant get their hands on them. . I've even got an Uncut sheet with two Jordan's on it. The Last 11 Rookie of the Year and his All NBA Rookie Team. These are all cards that I refuse to sell and will be passed down and will never hit the market and I think most of us who own them feel the same way. This is what makes them even more rarer.

I personally think the Fleer is the true rookie but that topic has been debated for years. The 5x7 is his true first card. I don’t see why people think the 101 is the first card when it truly is the 5x7. The image on the 5x7 is amazing as well. In the end Jordan has more than 1 rookie. Which one is the true rookie is debatable.

      @jebbthetrainkid1281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jimmy_iKoN I personally go with the 5x7 Court Kings. The Star 101 is his first Regular Sized Card. But I look at his 1986 Fleer as a 3rd Year Card, which it realistically is.

I got my Fleer Jordan in 1990 but haven't had it graded. Also got my BGS 8 Star Jordan in 2012. Yes, it's off center.

Maaaan awesome video! Your energy is contagious! Subbed!
Top 3 cards in my PC:
    • 1984-85 Star BGS 6.5/10 Auto
    • 1985 Nike BGS 9.5/9 Auto (should be a 10)
    • 1986-87 Fleer BCCG 10
My dream is to own a signed 86 Fleer to complete the trifecta. Pretty pricey now haha

Two Cards to mention before even the Star Co. Jordan are his 5x7 Blue Border Court Kings and the really rare and never mentioned Wichita Eagle Beacon Michael Jordan showing him playing for UNC from their 1983-84 Set which is really his very 1st Card made and the Star 5x7 was his second then came the 1984-85 Star 101.

Simply what do you remember about jordan when you think about his playing days?? ... flying dunks!! That star card might be 1 and all but really that rebound photo is weak... its 86 fleer all day flying with his tounge out and chicago script its beautiful ...but his other cards of him dunking in the star set are just as beautiful... everyone has there own preferences
