I have the same truck but a 2017. Absolutely love it. The only issue that I have had with it is when I go up north to the cottage in the winter time for sledding the automatic running boards sometimes freeze in the down and up positions. The automatic running boards have a tough time in the Canadian winters. Great review. I added a lift kit, rims and KO2 tires.

I have a 2019 F150 Lariat with Max Tow and 3.5L Ecoboost. I added the Road Master RoadActive Suspension, and Bilstein 5100 shocks in the rear. We tow 3 different trailers ... a 20 ft open car hauler, a 26 ft boat/boat trailer, and a 30 ft Cougar travel trailer. I love this truck and it tows amazing. The travel trailer was probably the toughest to haul, but we bought a ProPride 3P hitch and it solves all sway issues. Mike, the Stop-Start thingy is a feature on many cars here in Europe. It's for two main reasons;one to reduce emissions in towns and two to save you gas money. You'll get used to it and if you're not in town much then you won't notice it. Would like to know about your old truck, did you trade it, sell it privately, keep it and what sort of money is that new truck? Good video. Obviously you are allowed to carry in your state.

I have '15 Lariat with 3.5L and love it. Couple of important features you didn't mention. Approach the truck with the key in your pocket, touch the inside of the door handle and the truck unlocks. Push the little button on the door handle and it locks. Also you may want to use the tail gate step to get in the bed. On the dash I switched the transmission temp gauge for turbo boost. Just my personal preference. We have 80k and no issues. Hope you both will love it. It's an awesome truck.

Mike you can control the engine shutting off when you stop with the brake peddle, light brake pressure it won’t shutoff heavy it will. It’s start when you let off the brake peddle not when you push the throttle pedal...at least that what my car does. Give it time you won’t even notice it. I like the tow capacity I may look at this truck. Beautiful truck enjoy it.

  • @jeffherndon

Easy work around for the auto shut off. Get one of those trailer light testers and plug it in and it disables the auto stop function.
The blind spot detection even does the trailer. When you setup your trailer you have to enter the length of it and it adds that to the lane warning indicators.
I have a 2017 lariat and I decided to go with a spray in bed liner and a Ford rubber bed mat to protect the aluminum bed when I put something heavy in it.
Also get ford or weather tech floor mats. I love them.
One mod you should do us get an oil separator for the engine. It’s about $125 from Ford Racing. It’s a long story as to why to get it. You can google it. Your engine has port and direct injection which helps the problem but it is too soon to see if it cures it yet. I just cleaned a couple of ounces out of mine today. Just google it.

I'm with you on the auto-start/stop feature. Our BMW came with that, and we were able to get them to modify the software to make "OFF" the default setting. Perhaps Ford can do that for you, also. That's a beautiful machine. I tend to keep my vehicles for a while - my last Ford F-250 I kept for 17 years, so when I purchased my replacement in 2015, I figured at my age it probably would be my last truck, so I went whole hog and got the SuperDuty gasser in the Premium trim line. I do haul a Kubota back and forth to my hunting property, so I can justify the heavier body style. Though it rides a bit stiffer, I use it sparingly, only about 3,000 miles per year, usually putting its capabilities to good use.

I am a Ford person and like my Ford Trucks. Since I live in rural CO I do require 4wd. What Ford did after 2016 was to change to the aluminum body for weight control, I have my doubts for the durability of that material for a truck body. I had found good buy on a 2016 last year on a super duty F-250 which had been pre-owned certified with only 19075 miles. Could not pass the deal as I did not want an aluminum body. I have to say, I love this truck, power to spare and yes the functions are similar to your new 2019 with the camera in the back which does great when backing up to hook up the camper. Mileage using my own calculations and keeping a log for miles and gas fill ups is about 15.8 to 17 mpg depending on load, level or hills, distance and wind. If your pick up is as good as the 2016 with the bells and whistles you should really enjoy it and it should serve you well, even towing. My only issue is the body and I would love to hear more of how it works out for you.

I have a 13 ecoboost and have pulled 8 5x6 hay rolls which should be around 12k lbs plus the weight of three wagons. So no tongue weight. It pulled it fine but with no tongue weight going down hill on gravel was a bit scary. Just not enough mass for handling the weight. But on blacktop it’s fine. Have 118,000 trouble free miles, good luck with the purchase.

  • @nickschilling218
    @nickschilling218 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I do not know if this comment has been made or not, but the 13,200 is the maximum tow rating for a 4x2 with no options (options add weight). I believe the sticker in the door will have the information you need to calculate what your specific vehicle is rated to tow. Additionally, the power figures, mpg, and tow rating are all based on using 93 octane fuel so if you choose to use 87 you will experience less power and worse gas mileage. Absolutely love the f150, congrats! If you find that you do not like the lane keeping system it can be turned off and the auto-start stop can be defeated by purchasing the Auto-start stop Eliminator which is a simple install. Sync 3 also has Android Auto and Apple Carplay which operates through your phone! I don't mean to geek out on you guys, but I'm a bit of a Ford nut. I'd be happy to try and answer any other questions you may have about the vehicle. Congrats again love teh videos!

I have a similarly equipped Lariat, have had it for a little over a year. I couldn’t stand the start/stop, Forscan is an (advanced) after market programmer that can disable stop/start permanently as well as tweak number of other things like turn on your tail lights when your daytime driving lights are on. Husky floor mats are a must have. My main gripe is with the 10speed transmission, it frequently struggles to find the right gear and has inconsistent shift firmness.

I had a F150 with the 5.0 and now have the 3.5 Eco and I got to say, I love the Ecoboost. It tows much better, a little better gas mileage but not real noticeable, is able to shift less going up hills while towing. The only thing I miss from the 5.0 is the growl it makes. The backup assist thing is trash. I've pulled a lot of heavy loads and the motor definitely is not the limiting factor. I've found my back end squats too much when pulling heavy trailers. Biggest load I've pulled is a 20' trailer and about 120 bales of hay which we estimated around 9000lbs. My towing capacity is around 12,000. The truck pulled the weight great, but really squatted the back of the truck. The one main downside is living in Minnesota and all the road salt, I already have a bit of rust on the Chrome bumper. I'll never get the chrome package again.

That lariat is nice. I bought a 2016 XLT 3.5EB used right before Christmas, it’s replacing my 2005 F250.... crazy that the F150 has a towing rating 1000pounds less than the 250.
It’s loaded with the moon roof and all that stuff, Max Trailer tow with the towing mirrors bla bla bla. It was a little too fancy for my taste originally, but growing to like it.
I do like the push button start and heated steering wheel in your lariat. Gets cold here in Wisconsin!
Plug your phone into the USB in the center console and give Apple Car Play or Android Auto a try. It’s neat.
Also those “microphones” in the roof there are actually motion sensors for the alarm system.

I just bought my first new F150 Super Crew in a king ranch pcg, same engine and trans MAX tow as well. I agree with just about every point you made. Power is all get out, it goes really well. I love the multi contor seats in mine. I also would never in any sitiation want pull 13000 lbs with any half ton truck. Fuel economy with the Eco boost 3.5 is respectable until you put it too work. It's doesn't do great pulling a trailer, in fact I think the coyote 5.0 Liter gets better economy when towing. I reach for the auto start as soon as I pull out my driveway, really don't care for that. As a long time Chevy guy I now understand why the F series trucks sell so well in both Canada and the USA. I'm really impressed with mine, it's ride power and use of space including that Hugh rear cabin and seat are outstanding.

Something else I look at: I'm in a Ram 3500(called 1 ton) heavy duty model with max tow package. Rear is sprung stiff to say the least and has airbag overloads on top of that. Called a " 1 ton" but can haul dang near 3 ton in the bed and still have suspension travel. Do like that a lot.Had 3000 pounds in the bed a couple of days ago and all it did was smooth out the ride a bit.Have had 5000 pounds in the bed and it did squat the rear a couple of inches.Main reason I like that stiff sprung rear and high capacity is I can transfer some serious weight to the gooseneck hitch ball when towing a 30K gross trailer.
Some other 1 ton trucks actually mean 1 ton max in the bed or on the hitch. Bummer.

  • @stevemartinez6757

Very nice truck Mike. I had a 2015 Lariat that I ended up trading in for a "new" used 2016 Platinum that had 20k miles on it when I got it. The only reason that I traded was because I was going from a 2WD truck to a 4WD. My truck is equipped pretty much the same as yours with the exception of mine being a 6 speed and it doesn't have the stupid (my opinion) shutoff thing when you stop at a red light. I've had my truck for right at 2 years and I must say that it's probably the best truck that I've owned for a daily driver.
As far as it being capable, well I have towed not only a camping trailer, but also a 16' flatbed trailer with several different types/sizes of tractors on it with no problems. I have never used the "trailer backup assist" nor the "automatic parallel parking assist". As far as the Ecoboost engine (same as yours) I average about 20mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway unloaded. Obviously while towing a load the mpg goes down. It's still VERY much better than my older RAM with the Hemi that I owned for nearly 13 years and believe it or not rides smoother than the 2WD Lariat that I owned just before this one.
Good luck with your new truck and I hope you enjoy it.

Nice truck. I had the 2016 2.7 ecoboost. Crew cab 4x4. Awesome truck. Plenty of power. Had gotten it brand new with 16 miles on it. I put 156,000 miles on it in just under 3 years. U take care of it with maintenance an it'll last a life time. Just got a new 2019 F-150 4x4 with 3.5 ecoboost again. Brand new. Test drive a 5.0 an ecodiesel. But they didn't have that push u bak in the seat kind of power the 3.5 and 2.7 ecoboosts had. But im telling u it'll b worth it. Power is the when u need it. Congratulations again on ur new truck

You're going to love that truck. Don't worry about the weight thing it can handle it. I've got a 14 xlt extended cab and I've towed 16' trailer loads of wood plus pulled a Taurus from Amirillo texas to Springfield Missouri all with no problems what so ever

From what I've been told if your going to keep the truck long term and put 200,000 k on it, get the 5.0 V8. But since your not going to keep it that long maybe it will work out for you. This information is coming straight from a few Ford dealer maintenance shops in the Toledo area.

Nice truck Mike! I have a 2013 with the 3.5 we put an air box and cat back 3” exhaust on it It’s the most powerful vehicle I’ve owned I towed an old 4 Runner it handled it great I knew it was back there but plenty of torque and horsepower! I could easily get a speeding ticket lol Hoping to buy a camping trailer this summer I m thinking of not going over 7000 pounds Good luck

What I like best about my 2002 Ford F150 is no payments and I can treat the thing like a truck. Always gets me from point A to point B. But I'll admit if I had Romney's money I'd be happy to be driving one like yours around. I like no debt and can't afford to pay cash....but that's just my style. Regardless, congrats on a fine truck.

Happy St. Paddy's day, Mike and Melissa ☘ New vehicles are a must from time to time. Looks like it has the comfort of a car with the ability of a truck. Good choice with the 150. I drove a 250 Superduty at work and on the rutted dirt roads it was so stiff and jolting, felt like I needed a kidney belt.
Anyway, good luck with that and thank you for the tour.

Looking at buying the xlt 150 in this color. I think they call it “stone grey” how do you like this color? I’m undecided whether I love it or hate it. Edit: once I saw the truck in the sun shine I’m loving the color man. I’ve only seen the truck at my local dealership under cloudy sky’s.. man what a good looking truck. Nice review 👍🏼

Was never a FFF fan. Always had a chevy currently have a 2012 Silverado and it has some of your bells and whistles. I have heard that the aluminum bed dents far easier than my steel one. I understand that a new Chevy has most all of those bells and whistles too.

Mike and family, congrats on the new ride. I'm in the market for basically the exact same truck. I live around Pittsburgh, and have property by Meadville so I travel W. PA quite often. How did Baierl treat you? Did you look anywhere else? I have an 11 F-150 EcoBoost with the Max tow package and it's finally getting time to trade it in, alot of loaded and towing miles. It's been a great truck easily pulled our trailer and tractor or large loads of dirt or gravel.

Congrats buddy. Sweet truck. Love my Ford company truck. You are going to love that eco boost engine. It will flat get out from under you. I also have the 4 door. Back seat is huge. Bonus is I’m getting a little over 19 mpg. running county roads here even with idle time. Break it in like you stole it. Good luck with it, great ride.....

I worked for a trailer manufacturer back in the early 2000s. Back then, we tried to get the truck manufacturers to quit being so conservative on their truck towing capacities. Even the 3/4-ton trucks were only rated around 10,000 pounds. Now it seems they’ve gone the other way.

Congrats. Been looking at the F150 for a few months now. Had a 2005 I put over 200k miles on. Something about a truck.. My BMW SUV I'm driving now has the start/stop feature and I got used to it. Had a timing chain break on me and the mechanic said the rumors are that the start/stop "feature" is hard on the timing chain. I turned it off via programming with my laptop (learned on the internet). Those cooled seats will good in August. Enjoy Mike.

Nice truck. Congrats on the purchase. Ive been watching & enjoying your videos for the past few months. I just bought an 18 GMC Sierra SLT. Your truck is awesome but your video confirms my choice. I looked at the laredo but it had too many gadgets that pushed the price too high. I just wanted a basic crew cab with leather. Honestly I like all of the trucks (Dodge, Ford, GMC, Chevy, Toyota, etc) Purchase came down to price and who had what on their lot.

Lovely truck, a bit large for our smaller roads and streets in Britain and especially the parking spaces in car parks. I'd like to have one though! I'm not a fan of stop start either, I have that on my Ford Focus. The lane departure idea is primarily to wake a driver up if they fall asleep at the wheel. Those ecoboost motors have great torque, my car has a 3 cylinder ecoboost motor, only 1 litre but 125bhp and max torque at 1400rpm so you can drive it like a diesel.

I’m sure it could be used as a work truck but for the money you paid, I’d say grocery getter. I took the same route a few years ago. I found a 1999 K3500 Chevy dump truck. Four wheel drive automatic. Can’t beat for hauling gravel and firewood!!! The best thing with it is to pull my splitter along behind it and up beside the log pile. As I split it I toss it up into the bed. Takes no time to get heaping load of wood and is easily a cord!! Get an old dump truck and you’ll be pleased!!

Great truck great motor. However you will want to install a catch can. The one issue with all echo boost motors. They use a direct injection. That means the fuel is injected directly in to the cylinders. The one issue everyone has with all echo boost motors is carbon buildup on the valves. Installing a catch can will prevent this issue. The buildup is caused by the blow by recyclation. With conventional motors the fuel being introduced before the valves stopped this from becoming an issue. NOT just a Ford issue. This is an issue with all EcoBoost motors. Congratulations on the new truck Mike you will enjoy it. Great performance. God bless

I believe that issue was resolved in 2018 models ..I have a 2016 eco boost 3.5 and a 2018 5.0 yote..21 ish MPG with the Boost and 18.5 with the Yote...Boost has 50k on it 1 issue replaced throttle body as there was a bad batch I was told and would go to limp mode.
Both have impressed me and that's not easy to do

What most dont seam to know is the max tow package is way more than a brake controller.
The entire rear suspension is different. Even the axle is upgraded.

  • @davidschomp4328
    @davidschomp4328 5 ปีที่แล้ว

It is an awesome truck.. I have a 2014 with the 3.5 eco max tow. Mine has the 11,500 towing package but I have gone beyond that... It out pulls my old 2004 F350 Diesel and does it much more confidently. I have noticed 2 things that I don't like and have addressed.... First notice the tires... they are not truck (LT) tires, they are passenger tires. They give it a soft ride but the compound is too soft for serious work. Before this truck I have only gotten 2 nails in tires ever, I had 14 plugs in those Wranglers when I swapped them. I would not trust them towing near what it is rated. Second the weakest point on the F150 is the brakes.... make sure your trailer brakes are perfect cause if they are a little out of adjustment that extra braking that the truck will have to make up for will over heat the pads and they will crumble. Several companies make upgraded brake kits for it since it is a known issue. The factory equipment is fine for light trailers and when your just using it as a truck. I pull a 14' 12K dump trailer with mine usually with my JD 4410 TLB in it which is over 8K alone. It is as awesome truck and I would buy it again in a heart beat.

I bought a 2018 chevy 1500 with a 6.2 and tow package and was told it will tow as much as my 2006 1 ton will. My question is how long will the drive shaft and rear end hold up towing 10,000 plus loads ? I have seen a lot of folks pulling cattle and hay trailers with both 1/2 fords and chevys and but I am still going to use my old 1 ton for those jobs. Think buying a old dump truck is the smart thing to do I bought my dually used and it sits a lot because most of the time I drive it when I am towing a heavy load.
