  • Roadside #grass, often considered a waste product, holds untapped potential as a #sustainable alternative to traditional wood-based paper. Dutch researchers at Wageningen Research have developed a process to transform this readily available material into paper.
The researchers' innovative approach involves cleaning and processing the grass to remove debris and extract #cellulose fibers, the primary component of #paper. This process utilizes a sophisticated camera system to detect and remove debris particles from the grass, ensuring a clean and consistent base material for the subsequent processing stages.
The final product exhibits comparable strength, durability, and biodegradability to traditional paper, without the environmental impact of tree harvesting.

After seeing that painted bike lane I was so surprised to hear a Dutch accent from the mower.
Aside from that quirk I loved everything about this video. Almost makes you wonder why paper is made from wood if grass has more cellulose per volume.

Can you suggest any research paper on this?

Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately I cannot link directly to a research paper. But please have a look at the Practice Abstracts on the GO-GRASS website, where you can find more information about this demo site and contact details of the scientists for specific questions.
