    Bela Fleck is one of the greatest living musicians of our lifetime. If you have never seen Bela Fleck live I highly recommend it.

      In a previous life as a musician in NJ (and a Bela previous life) I saw him at the Stone Pony with the Flecktones. Victor Wooten is the best bass player I've ever seen live.

    Great tribute to Blake and Tony Rice, who gave this song a new life.

      Tony played a nice cover of Norman's song, yet nothing comes close to the original version on NB's WBB album.

      Both are great and they were good friends, but grew up playing Norman's version. Less bluegrass, more old timey. Always felt there was a hole or two in Tony's version.

  • @damirzanne

    I’d never attempt to do this song , Tony owns it , there is just no way anyone can do it better than him ... it would be like trying to sing Crying Time after Ray Charles did it ...

    • @richardernsberger5692
      @richardernsberger5692 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree: this version is too fast and loses the poignancy of the song that is so sweet and textured in Rice's version. Appreciate this--but it's a rush job.

      Jonathan Townsend they both have 57s... on their instruments. Billy has a 58 on his voice because... he’s... the one singing

  • @jonpopelka

    Bela is obviously an absolute legend, but he has NO clue on this one 😂 Billy is trying to watch his changes so the recording isn't totally fucked, but it's just not happening. That being said; I dare anyone unfamiliar with this tune to pick a banjo part better than Bela did.

    This is good but so sterile to me. I'm biased towards Tony Rice version. The strained and kinda rough unpolished voice is perfect. Not trying to be negative but the singing here is reminiscent of modern country. Take that as you will.

      @@andrewkeen3129 I just can't understand why Tony would change the words. "Picker friend" makes no sense. Maybe it's a copyright thing. But I wouldn't think his good friend Norman would care.🤔

      @andrewkeen3129 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TM1Alan I would highly doubt so too man. They were like best friends so I would really doubt that. I guess maybe that just resonated more with Tony and he wanted to change it up just a little bit? Why do you say it makes no sense though? These guys entire lives were all about flatpicking and crosspicking and 'picking' on the guitar was everything to them. I always assumed he just meant a fellow bluegrass player most likely.

    I wonder if Bela is to deaf to listen or just too important? Out of tune and out of synch. I know he's used to being the hottest ish in the room, but not when he's sitting next to that guy.
