    Good to see someone making use of alternative fuels. I ran my '46 Ford Jailbar on diesel for 18 years. never had a problem.

    I like those 6.9 and 7.3 IDI diesel. Those were the best engines Ford ever used.

    Start it on diesel with the front tank and run oil in the back mixed with a bit of diesel for viscosity.

      Unfortunately the truck only has one tank (previous owners doing not mine). I intended to get a 32 gal rear tank for oil and use the front for diesel but ended up selling the truck

      Smart, and when parking park with diesel in the fuel lines just swap tank 1 minute prior to stopping

      @@AnimalKnowlege123whats the reason for running oil for 1 minute before shutoff?

      @@noah_loans just read what i had typed. I meant the other way around! Start stop on pump diesel and then use motor oil for driving in between. When u go to park for a long time it will clean the oil out of fuel lines

    Got a 1986 f250 6.9idi c6 4x4. My question is i put a pump new injectors injector return line kit new high pressure injection lines fuel filter. No leaks anywhere yet in mornong cold sitting over night it takes alot to get it to fire off. New batteries cables and nippondenso starter 5 days old. I push the vavle next to the fuel filter housing hissing so i can see air is in the system. So im looking to fing the leak? Air intrusion is my issue any ideas where else to look?

      I have a 6.9 i deleted the mechanical pump and put a sump in the tank with a electric pump and then converted to 7.3 glow plugs and controller and It starts right up no matter what temp but when the glow plugs where bad it wouldn't start when it was 70 out

      I did what @jaybarringer6514 did as well. I have an electric pump and switched to 7.3 glow plugs and it always starts right up

Fresh batteries and bled the system it fired up! Body is okay adverage so now have two. Lol how do you guys set and also adjust the timing(pump) for better fuel milage

    Hello there, could I use a fragment of your video for my American diesel trucky coldstarting compilation? Of course I will put a link to your original video in the description, increasing the original’s popularity too. Thanks a lot for you answer in advance :) 85% oil and 15% stale gas should be about perfect, never had my hands on a Ford IDI though here in Europe. Do you use any kind of fuel heater? Like taking an old auto gearbox cooler and fitting it so it warms up fuel via coolant? Obviously wont help on cold start but it sure does help later to spray and burn the fuel properly.

    • @thequestionablecraftsman
      @thequestionablecraftsman  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes that would be really cool! No i do not use a fuel heater. Its not very cold where I live though. It may be in the teens (farenheight) for a month out of the year

      @@thequestionablecraftsman I recommend it anyways, winter or summer, won't do any harm and will only help! (Just don't run over 10-15% gasoline with it installed, too much gasoline + hot fuel = vapour locks in the fuel system)
      Brings the fuel to a lower viscosity taking stress off the fuel system, helps it pass through the filter, spray more easily and efficiently through the injectors, burn more efficiently and cleanly...
      And in scorching hot summer, it won't do harm either and it will definitely take away some warmth from the engine :D
      Example: watch?v=_FCf6WnALQA
      Best of luck running it eitherway, the 6.9 IDI shouldn't care much, but why not give it just that little bit more of life:)

  • @nspro931
    @nspro931 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Each time it took off and gained RPM you could have kept it running by keeping your foot in it a little and/or holding the starter on. You had it started several times, just the idle governor on these is a little slow even on diesel

  • @breathemore8099
    @breathemore8099 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Gotta feather the pedal a bit till you hear signs of life and then take your foot off and let it idle to warm up.

      I like them. They're pretty much the same as the 7.3 idi with minor differences like the glow plug controller. They also don't have cavitation issues since the cylinder walls are thicker

      Hey man I got a 86 6.9idi 4x4 f250 supper cab. Buy the old ford diesel! you will not regret it! Easy to work on parts are very reasonable decent fuel milage and will tow anything I use it for on the farm! Just it's not a speed demond other than that love these old trucks

      @@thequestionablecraftsman if you want alternative fuels: try a LPG engine. Used motor oil isn't an alternative fuel, sunflower oil, vegetable oil is. Don't know what you've been reading: but it sure wasn't good. It could l causes wear and tear on your motor, bearings, piston rings, exhaust system, valves and rubbers (fuel lines). It's also bad for your health and the health of others driving behind you. Not to mention your environment and flower garden. You're indeed a questionable man... However: definitely not crafted when it comes to reading internet in combination with using your commen sense and/or your brain
      Let me guess: your also so stupid to believe that Trump is there for the blue colored guy instead of the rich, and that Trump won the previous elections fear and that the elections were stolen? Instead of you believing the proven fact that he tried to influence the results, and he is a convicted criminal?! And the fact that it's proven he has had a big hand in the storming of the Capitol on 6th of January? Where working blue colored people (policeman) died??!!
