I think the new exhaust offers more airflow than before. If you take the 'hat' off the injection pump, remove the governor rod, you can get to the rotor plunger assembly. Once you can see that, roll the engine with a breaker bar, until you see a hex head screw. Insert a 5/32 hex wrench into it and TIGHTEN that screw 1/8 to 1/4 turn. That will increase rotor plunger travel, and inject more fuel, to take advantage of that extra air. You will be surprised with the increase in power, but more importantly, it will start much easier, even with a low battery or on a cold day! (don't give it too much, or it will "roll coal" at full throttle)
If you remove the fuel line in the middle of the 8 injector lines, use that same 5/32 hex key, and adjust a delivery pump screw inside of the fuel inlet. Tightening that screw will increase the timing advance curve of the pump. Sometimes that adjustment is necessary, because over time, springs tend to sag. Once it's been readjusted, you shouldn't have to do it again, since the spring has taken its set. The rotor plunger assembly beds into the cam ring. Once this break-in period is over, it should hold this setting as well. It takes 12,000 to 20,000 miles, for the pump to fully 'break-in', then, it should hold its tune for the life of the pump, or perhaps, even the life of the engine.

    • @CharredSteak
      @CharredSteak 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

Way easier to pull the side cover off and get to the plunger set screw from there, seen way too many mishaps from putting the injection pump cover back on wrong and locking the rack full fuel lol

Excellent work guys! When i was a teen, we took our 1086 F250 diesel 4wd and created a custom single barrel type exhaust under it for about a year. The exhaust hangers kept breaking in the stock system with glasspacks. So the custom muffler shop mad us a joied tube into a 4" outlet that ran wide open out the rear. Ford THUNDER that truck was. LoL!

My dad had a 79 f350 with the 400. I don't think there was a good reason but he put one of those blackjack header and exhaust kits on it. It was a manky work truck. The mufflers did fuck all. You'd set car alarms off quite frequently just idling through parking lots. Late 80s era car alarms, but still. It was a truck with personality. It didn't like distributor gear roll pins, so it would shear one of those off about once a month. We got really good at fixing that on the roadside. like 10, 15 minutes... After an engine rebuild, the carb linkage didn't quite work right, particularly the accelerator pump. The fix for that was a pull string attached to the accelerator pump, from under the hood, through the wing window, secured to the wing window latch with a little loop. When you accelerated, you give the string a little tug, otherwise it would not really stall but it wouldn't really go either.

It's really simple. The 7.3 turbos we're fantastic, but the 6.9 did last forever, because, didn't have enough power to hurt itself. It simply won't spin fast enough to do any damage. At least that was my experience with one.
This one does sound good, but stainless always sounded "tinny"(raspy) in a way that I didn't like as much as other materials.
I've done stainless knock off magnaflows, and stainless pipe on a mild 454. It sounded like banging on the floorboards with a small hammer.
Tink a tink a tink a tink a tink.......(there are half of the people reading this that know exactly the sound I'm talking about) Aluminized steel was my go too, and flowmasters, x pipe, 90° after muffler straight out the side. The thicker pipe makes a lower note that is just what I wanted.
And a flowmaster on a 4.3 s10 almost sounds like a small block
Exhaust is so subjective though. Everyone likes something different.
You said it right after the first start. Higher pitch.
I like the lower pitch of thicker material

X-pipes will drive the pitch up but scavenge more at higher RPM, H pipes will drive the pitch down but not scavenge as much for high revving engines. I was hoping to hear this IDI with an H pipe, I don't think it'll ever get the benefits of an X in there minus the cool factor.

Love the exhaust on the truck but I think you should put on the 69 mustang just think about it firm believer in loud exhaust on V8's .

It might have been a great idea, but he's nowhere near stacking dimes, he's just tacking on top of tacks. 🤣

I’m curious a good set of custom headers would do for this considering the manifolds are so small. It’s a big truck lots of space under the hood even 180 crossovers would be interesting. Lol shoot with that kinda compression the 180s would be so happy.

Buddy has a 88 swb Chevy with a 6.2 Detroit stuffed into it. It used to have super 10s on it and sounded very similar to this. Now it's got 3 inch and a massive tip and trumpets real bad 🤮. Cool sounding on that ol 6.9 🤘

A turbo IDI is actually quite reliable as well if you add a aftermarket kit, my dream truck.
