When I got my CV Bass VI it was covered in sawdust and the plastic was impossible to get off without taking off the strings to dismantle the guitar. Luckily many of the screws werent screwed in entirely. I love the instrument but their quality control really needs to step it up.
So I’ve had two and both had machine head issues where the internal gearing couldn’t tune the low E or low D to pitch one one and just D on the other. Not impressed. The gears would slip when about a pitch or two below E and D. Both went back.
I bought exact this instrument and I'm enjoying it very much. Overall good quality for the price. Adds a different touch to your music. Greetings from Denmark,
Love me some Bass VI! You’re sounding good on that thing! I’ve been thinking of getting one-I’m a guitar player that doubles on bass, and I don’t have one currently. For me it’s either a Fender Precision or a Bass VI. BTW, the fourth switch is a high-pass filter, which cuts some low end, which works better for playing more guitar-style parts. But if I’m playing bass, I want it to sound like a bass! If I need to play lead lines and chords, I’ll play guitar, which I’m much more familiar with anyway. I’ve played guitar with way too many bass players who are frustrated guitar players, and I’m not one of those. If I’m playing bass, I’ll get in the pocket and stay there!
These are highly underrated models in the series. I got a Black one years ago. It needs some modification (calling on Mike for his offset expertise) but it’s a fun instrument with lots of possibilities!
Man, you and I are on a very similar wavelength in terms of guitar purchases recently. I just got one of these a few months back and I got the offset tele even more recently than that and I really have enjoyed both.
Hi Emily, just want to tell you my wife never bought me any guitar, your husband is a lucky man. Quick question, I want to buy this guitar, can I use my Blues Jr. amp? it won’t damage the tubes?
The only things that'll get damaged is the speaker unless you turn up so loud that the rumble from the bass is rattling your amp. By that stage the speaker will definitely have blown anyway. You can get away with playing it through a guitar amp when using the strangle switch that cuts out a lot of the bass frequencies.
I just got one of these and the plastic on the tailpiece is seriously sticky. But it's not a big deal. BUT, believe me, it leaves a residue that loves dust even if you feel like you got all the crap off. Lighter fluid worked for me and used it on the pickguard also. Otherwise, amazing instrument! Acoustically it sounds not so good, plugged in (especially into my '79 FDR) WOW! probably the funnest instrument I've played.....maybe ever. Sounds shockingly good too plugged in. I'm sure I'll make some upgrades and tinker down the road but stock, it's impressive because it's so unique sounding and playing IMO.
The tremolo plate has protective plastic on it, like the pick guard. I just got one of these and currently have the strings off to rip all the plastic off, oil up the fretboard, and sort out the bridge. I got a set of D'addario exl156 to go on it.
@@GetOffset mine came off pretty easy. I had the strings off too, which helped. The one on my scratchplate was worse. I had bits of plastic hanging off everywhere.
I got mine late last week. It no longer comes with saddles you can raise an lower. Also, the strings are not centered on the neck. The low E is practically atop the edge of the fret whereas the high e has plenty of room.
@@GetOffset Yes. I'm boxing it up now. The seller made the decision difficult though. They offered to pay to shim the neck, replace the nut and set up. I just thought that if I am buying new it should only require minor adjustments by me to get where I want it - not a shim and new nut. A bit disheartened. If you had that offer would you get it done and keep it? And thank you for responding.
If they seller is going to pay for whatever work to fix it, I'd probably take them up on that in normal times. But COVID is still causing tech work delays... So I'm not sure.
Just picked one of these up and have been meaning to ask… Do you have an ID on the gold(?) guitar sitting on the ground directly over your left shoulder? Looks to be a single pickup Japanese model? I have one that looks super similar… chrome pickguard, single pickup, double cutaway, and a huge neck?
I have two Fender Squier guitars, a Telecaster and the Paranormal baritone guitar. The fit and finish is excellent; squires are great instruments, for the money they cannot be beat
yeah I had exactly the same problem with the f**kin cello[phane , scratched it straight away trying to get it off. No joke its a chemical removal job. And then my probs really started - intonation, bad bridge etc ertc etc. A CV model , 4 weeks ago.-A few years back I had the VM sunburst with a staytrem, 2nd hand, and that was superb. You need to spend time setting up, many string changes and bridge alterations, but its worth it once they're on point
How do you remove the plastic wrap from under the bridge? Do you loosen the strings, raise the bridge and pull the plastic free? I was able to pull the plastic from the top of the pickups but there is some stuck between the pickups and the claws. Any suggestions about how to remove it? Great video!
How's the neck? I recently shelled for a fender jaguar with a satin neck and I'm worried I can't go back to any other neck haha. Really itching to get a bass vi at some point though
I wasn't bothered too much by it, but if you really like a satin neck you can sand it down very carefully. Or you can take it to a tech to do so. I'm probably doing that with the Chrissie tele soon.
@@GetOffset Shoutout to replying to this comment like a year later haha. Since making that comment I bought and sold one because I wasn't really using it much. And I traded the Jag for a Jazzmaster. Cheers!
I found one for a sweet deal but I'm more of a guitar player who just really loves how this looks. Do you think if I switched the neck to a guitar neck, it would play / work just like a normal guitar? Oh also I'm just realizing now that the body might be a bit bigger than a normal guitar too. Is it bigger?
It wouldn't work for you. The scale length is set and you'd never get it to intonate without moving the position of the bridge. You can even put a strat neck on a Jag or mustang without the issue being apparent and that's just a couple inch difference and this would be like 4 inches difference.
I just fixed a Roland JC-77. Been playing my Les Paul through it. But I think this bass is perfect for the chorus, and sound I’m going for. Just waiting for more stock at Sweetwater. At $499 that’s a steak really. I’ve payed more for synths, compressors and the like. But this instrument sounds truly inspiring…it’s like take my $499! I’m def ready to own one of these!

@UCYi7l2LsLFi_vSr4wr6EZHw These strings are essentially twice the thickness of standard Strings. We could use it for Virtual Insanity arranged by Mark Brymer.
