It's funny, most of the reason I bought the Squier instead of the Schecter Hellcat VI was due to it having a vibrato. I've used it pretty heavily, and it always stays in tune all stock with Kalium 24-106 rounds.
Haha, I bought a CV Bass VI in February too and would disagree. First of all, I found the lower tension of the standard 24-84 gauge it came with very comfortable so swapped the stock ones for D'addario round-wound 24-84s, instead of going for fatter LaBellas. Second, I swapped the stock bridge for Staytrem's wide one so that the low E could be intonated properly. And I completely don't understand the gripes about vibrato - it's amazing to do wobbly stuff with low notes and chords, the sound is really special. And this is what it boils down to for me: why would anyone want to make a normal bass guitar out of a Bass VI? It's a unique instrument with unique features and possibility for unique and weird sounds. If someone wants a good old bass guitar she should go and just buy a normal bass guitar, not the Bass VI!

I got a Pawnshop VI in a trade some years ago. I was planning to flip it for profit. I ended up REALLY liking it. So much, I bought the Squier as well. You can play this through a guitar amp, because the string gauge is higher than your average 4 string bass. What's not to love about these?
Bought the Squire 70s Classic Vibe Jaguar in surf green and to me it is amazing for the price. Bought mine from Sweetwater and came nicely set up. Only thing I did was change the tort pickguard to a white one.
I kinda want a Bass Vi just cause it looks like a lotta fun. Offset trem on a six string bass, plus strangle switch? Just wondering if I can justify another guitar purchase with “it’s just a lot of fun”.
Wow! That intro added +2 to your overall production value! Super impressive how professional this has become compared to when I started watching years ago. I would watch this on TV!
I got a cv bass vi at the start of quarantine, like Skraegorn, and Labella's are indeed the go to strings, and the jag hardtail is a great upgrade. Though I would go for a straytem wide bridge too if I lived in the UK.
I'm most likely going to order that exact guitar this week. The only thing holding me back was worrying that the neck might be too thin. I have a Squier Bullet Mustang and that neck is downright anorexic the first 3 to 5 frets from the nut. Is your Jag's neck thicker than that?
@@chancemiller9340 ah as it's my first guitar I can't say mate. The neck doesn't seem to be particularly thin though but it's also a 24" C shape like the Mustang. I don't know if it's the same size exactly
I have the Daphne Blue CV Jaguar. I had it set up and it plays like a dream. I t sounds great with reverb and tremolo on my Fender Amp. Also grunge works on this guitar too😉
NO NEED TO CHANGE YOUR STRINGS TO FLATWOUNDS! Why limit your choices? Roundwounds can be bright and interesting yet if you dial your tone back and slap the neck pickup on... then you get the flat James Jamerson sound all day long! Change your pickup settings and brighten your tone and you get something completely different! Bright and grindy sounds with dead flub if you wish! Flatwounds give you one choice. I want more! Where does it say that bassists have to sit in the background? We can drive the music while sitting in the pocket. That's all well and good. John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire and Billy Sheehan, they give us a template that makes us a lead instrument all our own! Why should the guitar have all the fun? I started out on piano. In 1981 I had the privilege to see Rush, Moving Pictures Tour. I became a bassist the following week. I wasn't a failed guitarist who was relegated into playing bass. I started playing the guitar about 5 years later. The bass and keys were my voice. I wasn't about to let the guitarist have all the fun!
thanks for the demos..I picked up a Squier Bass VI recently..it's truly a joy to play...I must've lucked out as it stays in tune pretty good when I use the tremolo (I dont got crazy with it, just for minor effect)...I find the bass tones more than adequate (as did Jack Bruce)
The Beatles used the bassV1 on Helter Skelter..John Lennon played the bass V1..Paul McCartney played lead and rhythm guitar..Ringo played drums and yelled I got blisters on my fingers...George was not even on the track!
The strangle is useful for recording and when you are doing lower voiced chords. I’m not a huge fan of it but it has it uses. The bridge though I hate . Primitive piece of crap
Cool video. The best grab and go is the Jaguar. Now a Bass VI is a different beast all together. I play guitar and I play bass and it's neither. Honestly I would point out well known users like Robert Smith of the Cure as to what these can do. Honestly if you picked up a Bass VI and do a "Shoegaze Affordaboard Squire Bass VI board" you would get wayyy more out of it. I would suggest running the Bass VI through a guitar amp with ten inch speakers that have been replaced with bass speakers (guitar speakers will eventually give up the ghost on bass and bass like guitars) or I bet a keyboard amp would work well. I use a Peavey KB100 for my bass (it was free and I would easily put it in my favorite top five bass amps that I have played through) and those keyboard amps will show it love all day long. I will point out that a Bass VI is sonically stepping mainly on the bass player's and the keyboardist's sonic toes in a band. Not as much on a guitar player's as you might expect. Also slide would be interesting with it paired up with a spacey echo!😎👍✨✨
If you get the bass vi I recommend flipping the bridge around until you can get a wider bridge as it helps with intonation on the low e. It has become my favourite instrument to play though
When I first got it I flipped the bridge, but a few months later my tech flipped it back and clipped a few coils off the spring on the low E saddle. Either way works, though. I've had mine since they first came out, and I use it almost exclusively now. I even used it instead of my Jazz Bass when I was in a band in Hollywood, and I'm putting a band together right now where I'll be using as a lead instrument. I run both a bass amp and a guitar amp and split it in stereo after my pedal board with an EQ pedal for the guitar amp side to roll off some of the low bass. It sounds huge!
I've owned all the above, and the Jag is the keeper. I built a baritone Tele, and will say that the pickups and wiring make or break a baritone. The range that I can get out of mine far exceeds the Squier. The Starcaster is cool with the original Wide Range Humbuckers, - which are much different than the inexpensive re issues. It has a semi unique feel and sound,- but I'd just go with a Tele. The Jaguar is the unique, superior, design amongst the off sets. The short scale and switching system are the bomb, and personally, not a fan of the Squier standard JM necks. The 60th Aniv necks, bound and block inlaid , are the best JM necks outside the American's. The Squier Bass 6 isn't playable, and when compared to the Fender, you can see where it went wrong. To work well, the tolerances, set ups, and parts quality ,need to be spot on.Too bad because it's a legit, and fun, concept.
I really want a good starcaster and a bass IV. I just need to buy them and set them up nicely and maybe do something to the bass IV to help it out a bit.
The Squier VI kicks ass as a Baritone ( I've tried everything to make it a passable "Bass VI", but in the end it really just wants lighter strings and tuned a bit higher.
If you get up the coast, beyond Norm's...you have to check out Lightning Joe's in Atascadero. And (it's been a while so I don't know the current state of...) Subway Guitars in Berkeley. I don't know what the current inventory is, or even if Subway is still around, but you could find obscure...everything...there. At least at one point.
Could you put a set of like 11's or 12's on the Bass 6 and use it as like a hybrid baritone? I bet you could get that thing sounding so heavy if you did.
Doesn’t need it bro, it’s my next purchase and my friend uses his to get really heavy baritone sounds on just run of the mill flat wound strings made for the BASS VI
I've had the Squier VM Bass VI since it was released in 2013(?), and it has become my primary instrument. The stock strings are terrible, and the low E is floppy. I originally tried a set of LaBella flats, but later switched to a set of 24-106 Kalium roundwounds and haven't looked back. I thought I'd have to modify a bunch of stuff, but I haven't felt the need to change anything. I had to clip a few coils of the spring on the low E saddle to get it to intonate (my tech might have cut the screw a little bit for that saddle as well, but I don't remember), and otherwise it's been nothing but string changes and the occasional truss rod adjustment. I've used the trem heavily and it has stayed in tune throughout. I love it, and even if I could afford to get a Custom Shop version, I wouldn't get rid of the Squier.
It seems that your experience mirrors most from what I've heard. Ditch the trem for a Staytrem or Mastery, put on LaBella flatwounds, shim the neck and maybe even flip the bridge.
@@stephenhawkingsfootballboo7885 The only reason I'd swap the bridge would be if I just have $200 that I can't find another use for. The stock bridge intonates fine if cut a few coils or flip it, and tuning has been rock solid for me. My set of LaBellas were bad and would not intonate no matter what I did, but my experience with Kaliums has been excellent. I thought I wanted flats, but then I discovered that Robert Smith and Peter Hook both use rounds and get the sounds I'm looking for, so I've stuck with rounds from Kalium.
I’m another one who bought a Bass VI at the beginning of quarantine... Mirroring the other comments here: it really does improve the sound and playability (especially of that low E) to throw on some LaBella flatwounds or StringJoy Bass VI strings. Be sure you’re ordering strings made especially for the Bass VI, or at least strings that will be long enough to actually fit! Several strings I looked at would not have been long enough what with the bridge and scale-length yada yada. Overall I’ve been extremely happy with my purchase and suggest you buy one as well! Probably going to get one of the Classic vibe Starcasters soon too ;D Great video as always good sir, keep it up! PS- maybe you’ll be making a stop in Arizona? ;p
What a fun video! That Jaguar looks like the best player and value, but the Bass Vl is really intriguing. I'm not familiar with those at all, the funny thing is when I started listening to the sound I recognized the sound pf so many songs that I've known all my life. In your opinion, does it compare to a baritone guitar.
Very cool review Ryan😎👍 I just started to play and got me the Squier jazzmaster 70s vibe and Im having hard time deciding which squire Jag 2 get the 70s or the 60s vibe also I heard from other reviews something about adjusting the bridge on the Jag? Anyways keep rocking man🎸✌️

I'd like to prepare a live set using Akai force for making beats and synth, than playing on ut guitar and bass, maybe buying a bass 6 can be the solution to do both avoiding to change the instrument while playing?
I had one of those Bass VIs for a short while. I found it was not as easy to play bass as on a four string, and I have a baritone (Eastwood Sidejack), so I sold it for what I paid. I enjoyed owning it for the short time I did. It's about as good-looking as any guitar ever. They did the sunburst just right! I liked the tone controls a lot - they should make a guitar version. Mine didn't have a whammy bar (and you know, it is NOT a tremolo) and that's just as well, as you saw, a wiggle stick on a bass doesn't make much sense.
they basically did make a guitar version with the Cyclone II, just has no strangle switch. but 3 jag-style pickups, on/off switches for each, an odd scale for fender (24.75"), extremely beefy body. it's actually technically what kurt cobain designed after he hated the jag-stang and sent fender new specs, but because of estate disputes when the Cyclone came out, they couldn't legally tie his name to it (and thank god, or it might've been $2k instead of $700)
Harley Benton's version is pretty rad. It uses a traditional strat style blade pickup selector, and had a hard tail instead of a trem. I really dig mine.

Thanks a lot, jerk. I had no idea I wanted a Bass VI ;-) Did you look at the Candy Apple Red Starcaster? That's a nice looking guitar. Wish the Classic Vibe came in that color. Thanks for the demo. My life during lockdown has basically been play the guitar and sit float in the pool watching TH-cams of affordable guitar demos.

Hey guys I play mostly in D standard so if i got this id have it setup in D standard. Does anybody know if this would take well to that or would it just sound like a normal bass at that point?
I put flatwounds on my VI. It sounds much more bassy. I often wonder if I'm missing out on something unique the roundwounds had. Like maybe I could have made it more of its own thing instead of normalizing it.

I viewed the review of the Squier Jaguar with great interest. I purchased one a few months ago and it was HORRIBLE. Everything you could image could be bad, was. Would not stay in tune, poorly cut nut, many buzzes and rattles, etc. Yeah, I know these issues could have been addressed with a good set up, but didn't want to spend at least $100.00 on a $399.00 guitar. I'm really surprised that this one played and sounded so good right out of the box. I guess I got a lemon. Returned mine after a week. Who knows, maybe I'll try another down the road....

I have both a Squier CV Starcaster and a Bass VI. Love them both. The bass is a pain to get set up properly though. Lot of luthier work and patience will get you there. Don't buy a Bass VI thinking you can just start playing it and it has the proper intonation out of the box. I still highly recommend it, but just be advised you'll have some work ahead of you. I did an Instructable on it a few years back (www.instructables.com/id/Fender-Squier-Bass-VI-Fixing-tone-tuning-and-inton/). But there are other guides/videos about these as well that are very good.

Whoa when did this channel get so professional?! It's really looking great man. Keep up the good work
I got a Pawnshop VI in a trade some years ago.
Just ordered that exact Squier Bass VI.
Plus can depend on the shape it is as not everybody is built the same or have the same playing style or preference
I recommend this. Classic 60Hum video. Lots of tuning and an occasional Shameflute.
frieswijk tuna
7:15 sounds absolutely sick!
I've got a Daphne Blue CV Jaguar and I love it so far. Have yet to try it with my DS-1 and reverb pedals but even clean it's lit
Also grunge works on this guitar too😉
@@dianehubert4157 great. I have a tremolo pedal on the way so that's gonna be nice
Would you recommend it to a beginner? I love the sound but don't know much about guitar models yet..
good playing on the Bass vi. A good squier bass to check out if you're b curious is the Bronco. Infinite mod potential
Plug it into a bass amp, and on the neck pickup, DOES sound like a straight up bass. It is my number one bass in my band.
Here here!!!
I was really doubting on getting a bass vi but im definitely getting one after this vid
Great playing on the Bass VI!
The star caster seemed like it had a really good kinda grungy warm tone right off the bat
I have a fender jaguar, and now i want a squier 6, tjr sound is amazing
BASS VI!! All the way. If you put lighter strings on they sound really unique as baritones if set up well.
There was a Californian stoner/surf/Link Wray influences band Acetone, the single I'm Gone is one of my all time fave tunes, I think you will like it!
Bass vi through a big muff into a Marshall. I own the exact same one and absolutely love it. I am not fond of the strangle at all either
Better apply a buzz stop or a mute to make things better around the bridge?
That’s a fun intro.
okay, I'm buying a bass vi. i can't wait anymore, they seem so cool
If you get the bass vi I recommend flipping the bridge around until you can get a wider bridge as it helps with intonation on the low e. It has become my favourite instrument to play though
I tend to use it through a guitar amp with the strangle switch engaged with a flange or chorus for cure tones myself.
I gotta say, I really like the Road Case video intro, Ryan! :D
Also it can be used as a bass when you down tune it and the guitars are using single coil pickups.
You play Bass VI good, I'd buy a record of you just playing the bass VI.
Id love to see a bigsby and a custom pickguard on that statcaster.
I have the jaguar and frets are sharp as hell out the box
PS- maybe you’ll be making a stop in Arizona? ;p
you got lucky with that finish, particulary nice
Anyways keep rocking man🎸✌️
I liked the Bass VI - cool creative possibilities. Thanks
Which one is better: Squier Bass VI or GuitarBass Harley Benton? Maybe you can shoot a comparison? It will be very fun video!
I love the Bass VI. It's got such a unique tone.
READ BELOW AND GET THE SQUIER VI I BOUGHT ONE IN 2017 WHEN I SAW THAT IT WAS REISSUED AS A SQUIER (ORIGINAL WAS FENDER VI / PLAYED BY JACK BRUCE, GEORGE HARRISON AND YES GLENN CAMPBELL (WICHITA LINEMAN)
damm, that first looper jam with the bass vi was awesome
Bass VI is my favorite cause you can also use it to play Glee Cast songs and shed light on Naya Rivera who sadly died of Drowning.
Mine didn't have a whammy bar (and you know, it is NOT a tremolo) and that's just as well, as you saw, a wiggle stick on a bass doesn't make much sense.
they basically did make a guitar version with the Cyclone II, just has no strangle switch. but 3 jag-style pickups, on/off switches for each, an odd scale for fender (24.75"), extremely beefy body. it's actually technically what kurt cobain designed after he hated the jag-stang and sent fender new specs, but because of estate disputes when the Cyclone came out, they couldn't legally tie his name to it (and thank god, or it might've been $2k instead of $700)
Didn’t know a Bass VI could sound that cool. I’m definitely not scouring the web a decently priced used one right now...definitely not
You just need to find one set up right. I've heard the squire one needs a bit of setting up, apart from that they are amazing.
God thanks God
Harley Benton's version is pretty rad. It uses a traditional strat style blade pickup selector, and had a hard tail instead of a trem. I really dig mine.
Sean Thompson yasss didn’t know they made one
@@Liquidhamstermedia If you're not ordering from the US, you can change country and currency at the top of the page. :) (www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_guitarbass_vs_vintage_series.htm)
Last I checked, a Squier Bass VI is $400 to $600 new... I think. This one comes out under $250 after shipping. Happy shopping! ;)
Ryan has done videos on them in the past. (th-cam.com/video/BNblr2cM0Lk/w-d-xo.html)
Patrick Hunter has a video on it too. (th-cam.com/video/wlTBZuYMa4Q/w-d-xo.html)
Yeah that super bass VI is the next guitar I’m buying. After that I’m either getting a oxblood jazzmaster or a 8 string guitar so I can practice and become the Aldi’s version of meshuggah.
I had a white MIJ jag (signed by Los Straitjackets)...also a 1966..( i found it in a bargain sheet under the car parts section for 250.00)....I also have a Squier Jag that I love..and play more.:)
When I saw you were comparing offsets, I was expecting something like a Jaguar vs a Jazzmaster vs a Mustang, not 3 guitars so completely different, haha. Can the Bass VI even really be considered a guitar? 😁
Thanks a lot, jerk. I had no idea I wanted a Bass VI ;-)
Did you look at the Candy Apple Red Starcaster? That's a nice looking guitar. Wish the Classic Vibe came in that color.
Thanks for the demo. My life during lockdown has basically been play the guitar and sit float in the pool watching TH-cams of affordable guitar demos.
you need to turn up the tone volume if youre going to use the strangle switch
If you order the squier jaguar from fender it takes at least 6 months to come in 😱 I'm 5 months in 😎
Have you gotten it yet?
Is the jaguar neck bowed at all. I have a cheapo Stratocaster from overseas. Had to crank the neck adjustment about a dozen quarter turns 10 or 12 quarter turns. Now it's good enough.
How you tune so fast

Love the new intro!
Maybe the Starcaster landed Stateside unplayable and they got a tech to fix it? AND he did! Bigtime!!! LOL
Is there a walnut truss rod cavity on the affinity squier?
Hey guys I play mostly in D standard so if i got this id have it setup in D standard. Does anybody know if this would take well to that or would it just sound like a normal bass at that point?
I put flatwounds on my VI. It sounds much more bassy. I often wonder if I'm missing out on something unique the roundwounds had. Like maybe I could have made it more of its own thing instead of normalizing it.
Everyone sticks flat wounds of them and kills the tone if you want tit to sound like a bass…… USE A BASS!
Is it true that the new Classic Vibe Bass VI has a bridge that is better than the one one the old Vintage modified? It looks closer to a Staytrem... I just ordered a new Bass VI, I hope i can avoid to buy a Staytrem, maybe I'll get a buzzstop or a string mute... Any advices guys?
The bridge on the bass six is terrible. I’d swap it out asap
The starcaster looks if PRS made a 335 lol. Brilliant tones!
Nice presentation. What’s the major difference between a Squire baritone and a Bass Six? Could a Bass six, maybe modded. Be used as an A baritone or at least a B? Hope to hear from you. Wish you were here.Tne seafood is great. The surfin’ is Mike Love style.
Bass six is 30 scale length
Had the pleasure of acquiring one of these today!
That Supro stack sittin there behind you is YOU. ALL. DAY.
Edit: Fwiw, the Squier Baritone Jazzmaster has the same 30in scale as the Bass VI and has no trem, Jazzmaster pickups, and is available in black and Antigua Burst... maybe check it out?
Do you play the Bass VI on a normal guitar amp or a bass amp?
I viewed the review of the Squier Jaguar with great interest. I purchased one a few months ago and it was HORRIBLE. Everything you could image could be bad, was. Would not stay in tune, poorly cut nut, many buzzes and rattles, etc. Yeah, I know these issues could have been addressed with a good set up, but didn't want to spend at least $100.00 on a $399.00 guitar. I'm really surprised that this one played and sounded so good right out of the box. I guess I got a lemon. Returned mine after a week. Who knows, maybe I'll try another down the road....
Just take the one you like or whichever is available at the time. You know they all sound SAME anyway. I got a Squier CV 70's Jaguar and boy's a I'm mighty pleased.
Put some flats on the Bass Vi and really bring it to life
Woooow......I mean......just........Wooooow...........I can't stop watching and rewatching that intro!!! I'll probably never watch the rest of the video but who cares!!! You are now a "jedi" level TH-camr!!!
What was that chorus pedal? It was so deep. Im looking for a chorus pedal and that could be it
wallaby party I had the Wampler terraform on my board. That was probably the chorus.
@@60CycleHumcast Awesome. I'll check it out. Thanks for the reply!
The jag is the 👌
That Bass VI is sweet
I pick up a CV jazzmaster last week and the frets felt like sand paper
Are you playing the Bass VI through a guitar amp? I assumed so with the single coils. Thanks!
I was running it through a strymon irridium
60 Cycle Hum thanks, brother! You made me want one! I want the Jag, too.
Bass VI = The Cure
Thanks!👍🏻
I've never handled a Bass VI, what strings does it normally call for?
comes with 24-84 as standard but many owners go for 26-95 afterwards
Running 100 here!
Do you get to keep all these guitars?
i didnt keep any of these. I shot it at pitbull audio and left them all there.
