Looks like an awesome guitar to give you a really unique sound, and some riffs that aren't possible on other basses. Although I guess it's more pick exclusive, because of all the strings close to each other.
Each pickup are some sort of combinations of bass and guitar. When they are all togethee they sound more like a bass. As a bass player I’m quite satisfied.
I'm picking up a used VM Squire VI tomorrow in great condition so thanks for your review!. Many years ago (back in the early 70s) I had a Gibson EB-6 that I absolutely loved... until it fell over on stage and broke at the headstock. Luckily I had my 62 Jazz with me so I had something to play that night. Now I find out they only shipped 135 of the Gibsons. I should have kept it and had it repaired. I really wanted the Squire after watching John and George play a real one in the Get Back movie. It'll make a nice addition to my pseudo-Beatles guitar and bass collection.
Great video! The middle pick up sounds very indie - I dig it. I’m a sucker for bridge pickups (my most used on all my guitars) and the bridge here sounds so cool.
Great demo Rob. The new CV bass VI is going up in price over here in the States. I'd love to find a used VM like that. I like the bridge pup the best. I like that bass VI when it sounds more like a guitar but still sounds different. This think has The Cure written all over it!!!!!!!
Would recommend Harley Benton version if you can’t get this version shipped to your country or it’s too pricey, that’s what I did, spent 40 USD getting it set up to my liking, plug it into my pedalboard and boom, best of both worlds for guitar and bass, and I’ve been a bass player for years but I have an experiment style so this has been sick to play on after set up, distortion is a must if you get this, sound so cool and so much dynamics
Bought one of these in 2015 and followed some random on comments which suggested I on La Bella flatwounds. Couldn’t find a use in my setup. Felt like playing a guitar dipped in molasses - or a bass that was way too trebly. Not for me at all. Just sold it this year to a guy who was super happy to get it - glad it went to a good home (and he took those flatwounds right off)
Great playing! I’ve been wanting to get one of these for a while now, I know how you mentioned how the cure and the Beatles used a vibe VI and it’s an interesting thing that peter hook used a six string bass guitar in both joy division and new order (shergold six string rather than a Vibe VI) so I’d love to finally be able to play that. Also neck and middle pickups sound great.
I can't look at a Bass VI of ANY kind without thinking of Spinal Tap and the one in Nigel's guitar room: "Still got the ol' tagger on it! NO! Don't touch it! Don't point! Don't look at it!"
A Squier version ?! Not seen a real Fender one for about 35 years . These were popular for use on 60's spy movie and Spaghetti western soundtracks . Very cool 😎👍
@@olivier3847 I have been told it was used on a lot of TV & Movie work. You will know it when you hear it . Definitely a 6 string bass ,as opposed to a baritone guitar. I have heard it watching repeats of Man From UNCLE . Check out Jet Harris , Main Theme from Man With The Golden Arm .
What kind of strings do you have on yours? I’ve always wanted to try one of these with flat wounds. I think they can balance out the super bright pickups.
Imagine putting destortion on that... I would use that for chorus ... It sounds great! I could spend hours playing on that guitar only with a chorus and loop pedal
@@theguitarmanifesto i saw that guitar on david504's channel and i wanted to see how it sounded and then Ka pow i watched your video and it sounds wonderful
I play guitar with fingers, bass with fingers and sometimes pick - I got the CV 6 and the strings are too close together to finger pick, but this thing is so great to play. Just have to ignore the lowest string, it won't be in tune.
How is the bridge on these. I have heard good and bad about the bridge. I have an open offer on a new one. I don’t want to buy a new bridge it fix the inonnation on it. Any info would be great. Bob
So I’m a guitarist wanting to dab with a bass guitar. Would you buy the squire VI bass or get just a cheap bass. Going the cheap bass route would save me $300.
@@theguitarmanifesto Possibly the bigger thing is that the strings are not centered on the neck: the low E string slips off easily while the high e has plenty of room. Wish I could post a pic. Also, very cool that you respond to folks’ comments and questions.
I am not surprised bass players don't use this. Strings are so close together it's a very different technique to learn. These really are basses for guitar players. They sound good, though, could replace a regular bass in a lot of music and bring new things.
@@theguitarmanifesto String spacing is a major concern to most bass players, especially those who play fingerstyle. They can play the Bass VI but won't be comfortable with it before quite a while. It's a big difference.

@@theguitarmanifesto I tried one the other day. Didn't feel any different than a guitar...the way it plays. The action....it feels the same. I guess I was expecting it to be a different beast.
Went to check one out today. Guitar center opens at 11! Might of lost a sale. Seems like its too much middy. I play a warwick corvette rock bass. Drop d. Just sent a ibanez back. You need andre’ the giants fingers to play that! Im still gonna check one out . Might be good for my 3 pc band since i fill w/ cords alot. Like anyone gives a shit right? Lol..rock on

I’d love to own one of those one day. They’re pretty sick 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸
Yeah you so do they're great fun and sound so good 🤘🎸😎
They're cheap and fun, pick one up!

I love mine , its the same as this one , was so happy when squier made them as had wanted a vi for years,
They are my favourite bass guitar for sure, such a cool vibe 👌🎸

You can still finger pick like a guitar, it's so cool
Very cool. The pick ups on their own sound great- wasn’t so keen on all together though. Might try and get one 👍
Yeah listening back that was the worst sounding for sure, I'd definitely recommend trying one out 👌 great fun

To be fair they only time I really use a bridge pickup is hunbuckers, Jazzmaster sound best with both pickups on so chimey 🎸🤘
Honestly this is the bass I have lined up to (hopefully) get next. I love your vids mate!
Mate it's my favourite bass guitar 🎸🤘 glad you enjoy the videos 😎👌
i only recently found out about the existence of this thing... as a bassist who just joined a vintage funk rock/jazz band, i absolutely need one :O
I'm a lead guitar player. But this thing is gonna be my next thing to fail at attempting to master. I can't wait to get one.
Ah nice they're a lot of fun to play 🎸😎
Great video and great playing on that Bass vi...
Thank you very much 🎸😎
The trifecta of my favorites behind you - Back to the Future, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters.

Just realised I’ve never heard one of these being played before!
Well first time knowingly they appear on a lot of records
I have one, and it’s awesome. Thanks mate!

I've seen this bass in one of the Blink 182 live performance in 2001

You think it woukd be possible to put nkrmal guitar strings in it and use it as a guitar?
Probably not you would need thick strings to stop them from being too slinky, you'd need a new nut as for the sound not sure if I'm honest
Does this colour come in a left handed version
I don't think so
So do you play it through a guitar amp or a bass amp ?

Used in many famous songs so yes IMO
