    I was a yard jockey at ESTSE EXPRESS LINE for almost 6 years. I was at the Norfolk VA 003 location. It's actually in Chesapeake VA. I can't remember how long ago but they built a new terminal maybe 20years or so and moved from Norfolk to Chesapeake but it's still known and listed as the Norfolk terminal. I actually loved that job. We actually hooked all the doubles up so the drivers didn't have to touch them other than hooking up to lead

    Awesome video man!
    I'm currently trying to get my Class A so I can go from the yard at ABF onto a line haul driver.
    I already have the hooking and everything down since its either hooking or bumping the dock out in the yard.
    Now I just need to get my Class A.
    I drove straight trucks for about 19 years before recently starting with ABF.
    I think I'm going to really enjoy line haul driving!

    Just found your channel and loving it!
    I basically had an early retirement about 6 years ago due to a health condition. I had a dedicated run with a US Mail contractor and just loved it! All drop and hook. I would do an overnight in a sleeper truck twice a week.
    Watching your channel puts me back on the road which I really miss. Thanks for taking the time and all the work involved with producing these videos. I’m going to keep up with the new ones plus go back to the beginning and watch them all.

    • @TheTulsaTrucker
      @TheTulsaTrucker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      When I got started I just pulled the terminal I was headed to up in google maps and looked at how the yard was later out. If so seen a bunch of sets then that yard wants you to drop them. If you get to a terminal and it’s up just run inside and ask them how they want you to handle the set. Once you have been to a terminal once you will remember their process. You will hit allot of the same terminals over and over so you catch on quick. The small terminals or end of the line terminals you just drop the set and call central to see what’s next if you haven’t been preplanned on the linehaul dashboard which you can view on your phone. If you need any questions answered just e-mail me Assurance2131@gmail.com

    The money was outstanding, I was home every day even though I was doing close to 600 miles per day.

      I went to work for Estes in August of '06 as a city driver. Five of us were put on call at the end of November. We were brought back full time at the end of February. Terminal managers discretion as to who was put on call. Dock guys to yard jockey, yard jockey to driving, driver was to hold their position. Our TM decided seniority ruled so new drivers were bumped by the newly positioned drivers. '07 was the same way, we just had more guys ahead of us. I left Mmarch of '08 due to this. I liked the company overall. I was in Indianapolis at the old terminal.

    Hey Chuck, how good are you at backing up dolly behind a trailer? I know you’ve showed us footage of your colleagues doing it. The first time I ever did it, it took me 35 minutes to get it hooked. It doesn’t take me that long anymore but I wouldn’t call myself good at it, I’m just okay at it, but I try to practice whenever I can.

    • @TheTulsaTrucker
      @TheTulsaTrucker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I practice if I have time. Definitely haven’t mastered it. For myself I just find it way faster to do it the old fashion way. No super trucker here. 😂🤣

    • @scottkelly7172
      @scottkelly7172 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just remember that extra pivot point means you turn it left to go left and it walks faster than you'd think so small adjustments is all you. And if you can get lined up for the most part before backing its not to difficult. Now doing it at night with only one yard light, that makes it fun but we get r done.

      It happens every. 4 times now I've got the same tractor back with front end shimmy between 35vand 50 MPH. At some point the wheel is hard to hold, pulls right. They did not fix anything. Common issue plastic head lights are so cloudy you can't see the road. I use High beams all night and its not much better.
      You can't use the country horn in any area of the horn pad. Just a certain area. These are just a few issues. I ve driven a 2003 7 speed Volvo. You can only Imagine what a death trap that was. The whole top end of the transmission needed to be rebuilt.
