    Welcome to the family! I’ve been with OD for 12 years at the PHX terminal. 3 on the dock and then went thru their truck driver training and I’ve been in the truck for the last 9 years doing P&D

    • @brutesquadbbq2268
      @brutesquadbbq2268 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LuthiRanchWY it was pretty easy really. A week at the LAS terminal in class about 8 hours a day. Really it pretty much was about getting you ready for the tests at DMV, then after that a month with a trainer doing P&D and then another week doing linehaul training. Then they send you out on your own. I always tell people that wanna start driving that the best way to do it is to go to work for a freight company and get paid to get your license instead of paying a school thousands of dollars and then not have a job when you’re done!

    Started at OD two weeks ago at a small Louisiana location. Been with a trainer for two weeks and I get cut loose on my own tommorow. I'm getting to where I like it but that first week I was stressed out! It's a lot of info to try and absorb in a few days and put it into action

    Great video! I’ve been doing LTL for 10 years with the last 2 at OD in PHX. If you have a normal or smaller pallet under 2k lbs or so, try letting the front wheels of the Jack fall on the lift. It will stop there and gently roll off when it touches the ground, it’s a cool trick and customers get a kick from it. Keep in trucking.

I worked the docks making $11 an hour for 6moths (avg whse work back then was $8) then went through driver training for 2mos. you then did city work for 2 yrs before you could be considered for line haul. I worked at OD at the Portland Oregon location and it was a mess there. The Operational Managers on both shifts treated their employees bad. I had supervisor experience from being at Fedex Freight for 18 years and they didn't care to ask if I was interest in becoming a sup. The 1.5 year I worked there I seen 4 supervisors came and quit because the OM would ask them to work 15 hours shifts and talk down to them. Their motto there is "We pay you a lot, you don't like it here, then quit!" I am at a better company now and training to become a OM. I was given the opportunity and chance to advance, so thank you Oak Harbor Freight!!!!

    I just got hired on with Old Dominion for a local p&D driver. No experience ,1 month out of a federally accredited 160 hour CDL program. First and most importantly, the insurance was trash, I think the less I paid for the family plan was $117 a week and I still had to pay a $50 deductible at the doctor. At Yellow, we paid nothing for healthcare and no deductible. Second, and just as much important, is that OD and XPO make it to where you don’t get any overtime, period. None. Yellow didn’t give overtime away, they forced you to work it. Blame it one whoever you want, but the truth is that the LtL space got worse the day Yellow left the market.

      Working at both after yellow shutdown means you didnt spend a lot of time at either. We go through cycles every year of overtime and no overtime depending on freight levels. I get plenty of overtime at OD

    I have a legit question. I'm a safety coordinator for a major aftermarket parts company. We ship HEAVY products at times. We use Anthony Liftgates and by their own website and our company policy, drivers are strictly forbidden to ride the gates up or down. Is there nothing like that for you guys? Also, is there a weight/size limit on items you deliver as a single driver?

    • @LuthiRanchWY
      @LuthiRanchWY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never been told anything about not riding on the lift gate. And I think there is supposed to be a weight limit on the freight but I’ve delivered pallets that weight between 2000lbs and 3000lbs by myself before and even heavier construction equipment that I had to get help from the workers where I was delivering at to move it haha. I feel like the weight limit on our lift gates is 3500lbs but I could be wrong.

    How much experience does OD want and how long does their hiring process take?

    • @LuthiRanchWY
      @LuthiRanchWY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The hiring process is kind of long, took me a month or two. I’m not sure about the experience, I had 7 years at US Foods before I started here. But I believe they have a program where they will start you on the dock and then train you to get your CDL. If you already have it I bet they want around a year of experience
