    These things will keep pushing even if you sometimes neglect the maintenance. My 3VZE has been through Hell and back and still running strong

      I have a 3vze and its been nothing but a shitter. Blew a head gasket, fixed it and one drive later the fuel pressure damper at the very back of the motor starts leaking onto the exhaust. Sold it, wont ever touch another Toyota. Never lost money on a vehicle before this one

    These trucks don't have a steering rack. They have a recirculating ball steering box that rarely fails.

      And speaking from experience as 2nd owner of a 2nd Gen 5sp SR5 over the last 31 years, toyoDa steer box or the pump has never failed. Only running Valvoline Dexron III and no synthetic. 1oz of AT205 reseal helps.

    I can tell you have never owned one of these with the 3VZE and 5sp manual, and are not qualified to give a report on this vehicle. It does not have McPherson struts, and rear end sag can be remedied with cargo coils. This vehicle does not have rack & pinion steering, it has the steering gear box and power steer pump, which requires non-synthetic Dexron III conventional fluid from Toyota or Valvoline Dexron III. Do not mix synthetic with conventional fluid. Small leaks can be remedied with usually 1oz of ATP 205 reseal. How do I know? I am the second owner of a 1990 for 31 years and I have never needed to replace the factory steering pump or the gearbox after 310K miles. After I bought it coming off a lease (yes with a 5sp tranny) , I put 250K miles on mine. The mistakes common are putting inferior parts as replacements, which fail usually within a year. OEM new or decent used salvage OEM is a better choice depending on what fails. Sometimes it is better to re-build the failed part if its rebuild-able.

    the second gen 4runners are excellent. like any other vintage vehicle, keeping up with maintenance is important. the only "problem" that i have encountered in the 20 years that i have owned my 1990 4Runner 3.0 with the auto is the starter contact issue. there was/is a toyota service bulletin, but unfortunately, i had to find out after 3 independent shops mis-diagnosed the starter as the problem. my second gen 4Runner serves me well and i will keep it indefinitely.

    Talks about sagging rear suspension on this model which has rear COIL springs and goes on to illustrate the problem with some other model showing LEAF SPRINGS. Has he actually looked underneath the 4Runner?

    The 3.0 is the one with head gasket issues, not the 22R.

    • @Freebird1765
      @Freebird1765 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 22R has been known to have its share of head gasket issues also, you heard him talk about having a cast iron block with an aluminum head leading to expansion issues, that applies to both these engines.

    • @FlintnChirt
      @FlintnChirt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 22R is one of the best engines ever. The 3.slow is the worst Toyota engine ever. As a 3.slow engine owner I can confirm it has blown a head gasket and it sucks….

      @@FlintnChirtas a 3.4 swapped 2nd gen walk in 22r is definitely not the best it has head gasket issues as well as the 3.0

      Its the small/hard one that gets stuck & you cant close the sunroof because it broke so you gotta remove it & it will let you close & open like new. I could not fix that piece so i glued it back just for looks@noidea2655

      Turbocharged prechamber diesel so I reckon the same issues as with other turboed prechamber diesels, i.e. filthy EGRs and sensitive to bad or excessive tuning. Delete the EGR and don't tickle the injection pump too hard.
      Other than that, change oil and coolant at mandated intervalls, change out any seals when you're poking about, etc.
