    Just bought a 2017 GMC Acadia Denali. Nice appearance, overall. My suggestions for improvements: Directional signals should be included in the exterior mirrors; competitive vehicles have them, as well as much less expensive vehicles. Larger seats with more adjustments--Toyota Highlander and Kia Sorento have an adjustment that enhances thigh support. CD player should be included as in the Highlander and Sorento. More speeds for the transmission.

    Bought mine this past April. Not sure how I did it but I got 25% off MSRP ($12,200) on a nicely optioned Denali. So far amamazed at the real world fuel mileage I'm getting. I only have 2850 miles on it after 5 months (it's my wife's car who is retired, I drive a 2017 Volt as my DD) but we make a 60 mile trip to STL IAP twice a month and I have filled the tank and ZEROED Trip A and on those trips the Acadia is returning 30+ mpg on the highway. We traded a 2016 4 cal Equinox and love the added size, comfort, safety features and the 3 row is just the thing for new grandparents and all the gear that comes with that. USAF Retired

    Last week we leased an Acadia Denali and Alex mentioned something we experienced. GMC gave us a better deal then Ford. We would have paid the same money for a Ford Explorer XLT with leather seats that we paid for the Acadia Denali.

    I just drove the new Traverse, it was a lot bigger than I really need so will go check out this Acadia. The third row is an occasional use item for us, will usually just be folded flat.
    I also like the Mazda CX-9 a lot. The interior styling, particularly, seems a class above its price. The Chevy felt like the opposite. The one I drove cost around $40k and didn't seem to have much tonerite home about inside. The cloth seats were just ok. You mentioned the Cx-9 in passing in the review but didn't include it in the comparison at the end. How do you think it stacks up?
    The Chevy seemed very quiet and smooth, but there was an odd (and very annoying) booming sound or resonance when the tires hit bumps in the road. I was only on a 4 mile test drive and it was already bothersome. That alone made me walk away from considering it.

  • @acche-rc

    The 3rd row has pretty good vertical leg room though because unlike many 3-row it sits higher off the floor. Alex thx for covering the combined leg room but would you please also consider start measuring how high does the 3rd row sit off the floor? Thanks.

    Cross shopping this Acadia Denali & the Explorer Platinum. Interestingly the Acadia is much more refined if not as powerful. The fact it is a lot more efficient is nice as well, and unlike the Ford, GMC doesn't charge extra for 6 seater captain chairs.

    Great car reviews Alex! I am a new fan. One thing to keep in mind regarding the MDX is the ridiculous infotainment system and the outdated navigation map. It is the main reason I will not buy another Acura (currently have a 2013 RDX which has more buttons/knobs). BTW, I test drove the Acadia Denali yesterday and liked it very much. Averaged just over 22 mpg over ~30 miles of mostly highway (but not all). I have yet to try the Sorento but have heard great things.

    Alex,
    Can you please give more details of the AWD system in Denali....especially about the rear differential. You mention Denali doesn't have torque vectoring like SH-AWD and All Terrain trim. Did GM give more information about it's rear differential : is it LSD, electronically controlled LSD etc ? How much torque can it send maximum to rear differential and how much to each rear wheel? It would be nice if you could point to any online resource from GM which has all this details, if you know of any.
    Thanks for the review.

    Finally! Pretty good review. I'll take the looks of the Acadia over just about anything in this segment, definitely more masculine or "butch." The Acadia Denali is also very lease friendly as along with it's good discounts, its resale remains very high.

  • @JakeDrives1
    @JakeDrives1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Needs magnetic ride on the Denali trim as standard equipment. Also a ZF 8 speed auto across the V6 line. The fuel economy is somewhat lacking, considering how good CUV's are getting these days !

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ZF 8 speed is for RWD vehicles. GM and Ford have a 9 speed for FWD vehicles and it likely will end up in the Acadia. No more than 1-2 mpg separates V6 powered 3 row CUVs in this segment. And some models like the MDX take premium which erases any gains it has in mpgs.

    • @JakeDrives1

    An additional observation: DO NOT open a rear side window while at cruising speed. The turbulence, the air pressure sensation in the cabin, and very loud vibration are terrifying!

  • @coureurdebois
    @coureurdebois 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    it still has a better interior than most of Lincolns SUV line up and matches a lot of Acura's line up. it seems like a good jeep grand Cherokee competitor which also punches above its weight when it comes to interior and Luxury.

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @ivanlowjones 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      First 4G LTE now XM Radio? Do you even know what you're talking about? FYI...It is the satellite radio antenna which is what I said initially. My point was that most every current midsized SUV and larger, uses a shark fin style radio antenna. The Acadia's radio antenna looks outdated.

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      J High you initially said that was a conventional radio antenna. it's not. I am just saying the antenna gets the lte signal. if that is reason enough to avoid it so be it

  • @JBM425

    I'm glad I got to see this review. I don't necessarily need or want something as big as the original Acadia/Enclave, but I do want a V-6 with a "real" transmission. The Nissan Pathfinder is nice, but the idea of towing with that CVT still gives me the heebie jeebies. Since I am usually going to be the sole passenger, I don't want something huge, but it should be capable of towing a small trailer. An Acadia Denali or SLT-2 may be just what I need.

    • @JBM425
      @JBM425 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: my favorite YT auto mechanic, Car Wizard, recommends to stay away from any GM product with that V-6 (Acadia, Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse). That engine is notorious for timing chain problems, and they also suffer fro transmission, electrical, and steering woes. He said in another related video that a used Acadia/Enclave/Traverse might cost less than, say, a Toyota Highlander, but any savings will be offset by major engine repairs or replacement. Go to the 13:25 mark in this video: th-cam.com/video/g5KxRIqDcds/w-d-xo.html

  • @shethjones4494
    @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's hard to tell much from msrp these days due to leading and incentives. major issues with Acadia are that too many features are limited to Denali trim and interior plastics below the upper dash level. I presume 6 speed will be replaced with 9 speed for 2018 just like on buick lacrosse.

    Useful review as always. I narrowed it down between this and the 17 Pilot Elite. The Pilot matched it for speed, and features. Lost a bit on handling from being larger, but made up for it with much better storage space and the TV screen for my kids. To get the collision avoidance was 53k for the GMC vs 48k for the Honda. Since GMC had a 5000 discount and they discounted my Pilot by about 2500, I went with the Honda. I think this is a really nice car, but they were a bit optimistic with pricing. I also thought that acceleration would be better if it had a more contemporary transmission, which I assume is coming in the next year or so.

    • @tarasnagurskyy
      @tarasnagurskyy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So. 53k for GMC ( - 5000$ discounts) or 48k for Pilot (- 2500$ discounts) . REALLY ? !!! How about 40k for nissan Armada/Patrol SV or 44k for SL trim or 48k for platinum. Who will take Acadia or Pilot if you can take new Armada for the same money? And please don't tell me about quality or MPG . Ask yourself do you want v8 or v6, do you want off road capable or not, do you want Japan built( same Infinity factory) or not.

I went for the qx60 because it certainly felt more refined than the acadia denali and the msrp was similar (55k vs 59k loaded). With the same price, I felt the qx60 was a better value. The temperature is 20 degrees F, you are driving 50 mph on dry payment, suddenly there is a 50 foot patch of ice. Then there is bare pavement again for another 50 feet and then another patch of ice for 150 feet. What does your car do; how does the car respond? Does the AWD keep things going straight?

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not much AWD can do against the laws of physics, and you've failed to properly predict and look ahead at your driving path if 50+ ft patches of ice manage to suddenly sneak up on you.

    • @JBM425
      @JBM425 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen plenty of AWD vehicles wind up in ditches on icy, snowy days. It's not the AWD, but the snow tires and traction chains that make the biggest difference. AWD plus traction devices is even better.

      That might be, but a Murano is rated to tow only 1,000 pounds. I can live with bad wood trim in exchange for the 4,000-pound tow rating of the Denali and SLT-2 with the trailering package. But as the saying goes, to each his own.

    Not a bad SUV, the design is much more improved both inside and out compared to previous-gen model (which looked extremely bland). Shame that it still has 6-speed transmission, the new 8-speed (which GM already put into many current models) would've improved fuel economy and made shifting more smoother.

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A base model Tahoe or Yukon with cloth seats and essentially no features, sure. And if you pay MSRP for ANY new car, I'm sorry, you don't deserve a new car. Our local Buick/GMC dealer gives a ~$5000 discount up front before incentives and discussions, so you can get into a Denali in the lower-mid $40s.

      @@OSTKCabal Also, you will be spending more on fuel with the larger vehicle. The diet the Acadia went on helps with handling and mileage.

  • @kylemadrid4664

    I don't understand why GM would have TWO products stacked up against each other. Not necessarily against each other but fighting in the same segment with the same cars.
    The Traverse hits against the Pilot, Highlander, Explorer, and Pathfinder. But the Acadia goes head to head with the Pilot, Highlander, Explorer, Pathfinder, and the only other different competitor; the Grand Cherokee.
    The Grand Cherokee can get very expensive but the Acadia taps out only around 47k. Right around the highest MSRP of the other competitors. It seems smart for GM to try to have these two go in the midsize SUV segment to dominate but at the same time it seems redundant

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kyle Madrid first a
      of all the large gm crossovers really have no direct competition because they are larger than anything else out there. secondly the explorer has highest loaded price of nonluxury cuvs at 55 K.

    • @kylemadrid4664
      @kylemadrid4664 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that first opening sentence kind of negates the whole purpose of why I'm here. They're three-row mid size crossover SUV's. The Jeep can actually top all of them at around $60k and it can be classified as a non luxury SUV considering it wants to be competitive with the Acadia..

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should have limited my comment to FWD based CUVs, but you are right the JGC can get pricey but it's only a 5 seater and of course it offers a powerful V8 which competitors lack. But the large GM CUVs are really in a class of their own in terms of size and space behind the third row.

    • @mattjones3257
      @mattjones3257 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is exactly the problem they are trying to solve by realigning the models. The Traverse will grow some, while the Acadia has shrunken. The Traverse is now the go-to model for large families who need a large third row that will be used often, want more car-like dynamics/affordability/fuel economy than in a Suburban, and don't want a minivan. I'd consider it more of a full-size crossover, while the Acadia, Pilot, Explorer, Pathfinder, Highlander, Santa Fe, etc. are more mid-size. Put another way, if I'm shopping the above vehicles, and I check out the Traverse, the Traverse immediately jumps to the top or the bottom of my list based on the dramatically longer length -- these vehicles, while similar in some respects, are not direct competitors.
      The Acadia competes more directly with the above vehicles, and especially with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, as a quasi-luxury model in higher trims. It will be preferred by people a little further along in their careers, with a little more money in the bank, a lot less car seats to install, and who want the option of a third row to cart around some teenager's friends from time to time, but will not use it on a regular basis.

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I think what they are doing makes sense. Having the Enclave and Acadia be in the same showroom and offering the exact same size was sort of silly. Enclave will stay huge, while Acadia is more like the Explorer. While many liked the size of the last gen GM SUVs, they were too large for some people. I remember reading that one complaint of previous Acadia owners was inability to fit it in some garages.

      He said $56k, but if you price it yourself you will see the only way you can get there is by adding a $2k rear DVD system and special optional 20" wheels that are around $1800. Two very overpriced options that no one will buy. And $56k is about where explorer tops out so unfortunately this isn't charting new territory. You can bet Enclave will be even more. Also consider the Xt5 which is slightly smaller gets close to $70k.

    • @superwangwei3630
      @superwangwei3630 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sheth Jones sure but there are way better choices at every trim. Base highlander, loaded cx9 and pilot, at the higher end even rx350 and base LR4.

      superwangwei3630 everyone has an opinion. Not the same as fact. the rx350 for example has far less cargo space and looks horrible so for me it's hardly a much better option..
