I'm 49 and going back to school to prepare myself to take the MCAT and apply to medical school. Best case, I will apply when I'm 52 and that's ok. Too many years I compromised on my dream of being a Physician, but no longer. Every step I'm taking now is one step closer to making my dream a reality. It is my hope to never tire or retire from medicine. My goal is to find the place meant for me in this honorable profession and work happily till my time on Earth is through.

There is a video of a woman entering medical school at 54. Never too old. Best wishes.

Money attracts money. In USA medicine & surgery, if you have a wealthy background, no physician gatekeeper in med school or the hospital will be messing around with you. Dr. Scemama had the resources for tutoring prep courses to excel in taking the MCAT. Dealing with numbers in W.S. made him a "natural" in the field of anesthesia, which requires quick thinking and calculations as a matter of life & death. Anesthesia - one of the best paid specialties. For sure, gatekeepers in med school did not push him into Primary Care Medicine, where most Hispanic, Blacks, & other minority groups are channeled into, or else. First-hand experience statement from me.

Not in US medicine & surgery. See my comment above.
