I don't know if he's lying or not but think what he has to gain from lying? The reaction has been largely unsympathetic and people are even saying he's less of a man for his allegations which is very common when men come forward about domestic abuse. The only other reason I can think of is pure spite because of how their relationship ended maybe, but he doesn't seem like a spiteful unhappy person.
If it was Peter Hook who was abusive to Caroline, he'd be all over the newspapers as a villain. Women get away with domestic abuse though cos it's not seen as serious.
I'm thankful for the catalog of work that's from Peter Hook, and just as much so from his interviews. If I didn't know who he was watching this interview, I'd have never guessed he was one of the greatest bassists of all time -- guy is so down to earth. The interviewer did a great job as well.
I’m torn about this. On one hand it is admirable to be so open and honest about men’s depression but on the other, he agrees to do this on Sky News and with Kay Burley, of ALL people. She’s utterly vile, unsympathetic, self obsessed and incompetent in speaking about such issues.
Its his choice and I avoid Sky and especially Burley at all costs so can completely relate to the OP’s comment. This is the first time I’ve watched any Sky TV in many years. I wouldn’t watch if it wasn’t for him being on it. And really... what do Sky care. They thrive on creating fear and fear causes depression.
Legend. Why am I only seeing this now and it was take a couple years ago. Legend muso. Legend human. Battling life and struggles with a heroic get on with it attitude but not suppress or hide. He’s real. As is ‘his’ music.
That being said, I sure don’t want to disqualify the capabilities and merits of bass players like J J Brunel, Chris Squire, Larry Graham, John Entwistle, Suzi Quatro, James Jamerson, Stanley Clarke, Carol Kaye etc.
I've had my share of depression. No one really wants death. But I've still tried many times. Just loneliness and the perception of my future always seems to be set in a murky sad tragedy. And ending things before it takes place seems to be the right thing to do. It's an easy that way. I just hope I keep having a press forward additude.

@@nervesinapattern7261 it's incredible how well their stuff aged. the one thing about joy division that will always trouble me though... is that there was no proper recording of "Ceremony"... there exists only three recorded versions, and they're all botched and fucked up. (New Order's version of Ceremony is pretty good though, perhaps that will suffice...)
Jonathan I know! It bothers me a lot that they aren’t 100% sure of what ceremony’s lyrics are. Weirdly enough I discovered Joy division when I heard Radiohead do a cover on ceremony and the song stuck with me.

In a 2008 interview with the former girlfriend of serial killer Steve Wright, Burley was criticised for asking her whether, if the couple had enjoyed a better sex life, he would not have committed the crimes. Images from 2008 show Burley appearing to strangle photographer Kirsty Wigglesworth outside the Naomi Campbell hearing, which a Sky News spokesperson explained by saying "Kay Burley was provoked by a hard hit to the face with a camera."But the Associated Press said: ‘Kirsty is absolutely sure that she’s not the person who bumped Ms Burley with a camera. She was the victim of an unprovoked and inexcusable attack.’ During the 2010 general election, Burley's interview with electoral campaigner David Babbs from 38 Degrees was criticised for "bias and aggressive behaviour"
Wow, it's really startling how bad she is at interviewing, I'm getting whiplash. Let him talk and listen before jumping randomly to another question, ffs
that not really the reason, something causes the action. is she also depressed? drink/drugs...suffers from an illness? has she been" taught" to resolve conflict with violence?
If she abused him then why did he wait until after she died to come forward? Maybe because she wouldn’t be able to defend herself. Maybe he’s lying, maybe he’s not. We’ll never know.
glad that hooky said that he was a victim of domestic abuse as a man. it's not a one way street.
@SgtBaker16 So easy when the other person is dead. I'd love to think he isn't lying, but who knows with the shallowness of celebrity.

Ive always loved his bass playing technique.
Great honesty from a legend

This interviewer should be sacked. She knew NOTHING about his music going into it, was rude, interrupted, dismissive and pushy. Hate her guts
