As far as Royal banning multi-outlet gadgets, I'd like to go to the person's office who decided this ("because we can") and disable all of the outlets except one single outlet. I sail mostly on Holland America and I use a CPAP machine. Holland has for a long time prohibited the use of power strips and extension cords. However, when I ask the cabin steward for something to hook up my CPAP, it is always provided.
We cancelled out on the Prima - April 27, 2025 transatlantic NY to Southampton after they took away two ports about 2 weeks ago. All of the stops were why we booked in the first place.

RCL needs to announce whether they are ready to provide passengers with "approved" extension cords and multi-plug adaptors to all passengers who need one. The end result is people wi;ll bring power bricks which present greter danger of fire.
Certainly, no one wants a fire on a cruise ship but surely there are multi plugs that have acceptable safety specs to be able to use in a ship’s cabin. Just let us know which ones are highly safety rated. OR, if the cruise line wants to totally control the situation, sell us the ones you approve of.
They are definitely going to have to update their ships so that there are enough outlets for all the devices cruisers bring along these days. I am in my 70s and I bring 3 devices plus battery packs that need charging-and these are for personal use, no work involved. Could be a deal breaker for some.
Most staterooms only have one outlet which is not near enough to charge your devices including your cell phone which is needed to use the cruise ship app🧐 . Royal Caribbean should provide enough acceptable outlet adapters if they are going to restrict use anyone using their own. 🤷♀️
Banning the extension cube is going to be rough on the older ships I myself have a scooter , a CPAP, my phone, and iPad Ito charge. Having been on the older ships I know for sure there are not enough plugs in the cabins.
My take on the multi plug outlet situation is exactly what Don said during the video i usually cruise in a family of 3, each guest usually comes with a phone and a tablet onboard and with my many previous experiences with cruise ships like Royal and outlets in staterooms i like many other cruisers always find it difficult to have enough outlets in a stateroom to charge our devices overnight or whenever necessary for the next day and i find that this ban is currently unnecessary and that many cruisers usually bring this onboard to help charge devices quicker. This will directly impact many people especially parents that cruise with little kids in which they need something to keep there attention and people who require a multi plug for medical reasons. Now Royal expects us not to bring this plug and find another alternative to charging our devices during our cruise? I obviously am aware that cruise ships will most likely not stop sailing in order to add more outlets to each stateroom on each cruise as this would not be possible as it would take to much time and inconvenience many people when they are planning a cruise. Many will now have to try to charge each device separately instead of charging multiple devices at the same time with the multi outlet plug. I do understand where Royal is coming from if someone tries to charge to many things at the same time it could be a potential fire hazard but if cruisers are aware of how many devices can be charged at the same time without it being a fire hazard i see no problem with Royal trusting that cruisers wont try to plug in and charge a million devices at the same time in which causes the fire hazard which for most people should be common sense on not plugging in more plugs than your multi plug outlet can handle. I believe it would be beneficial not for Royal to completely ban the use of multi plugs but if they could publish approved and accepted multi outlet plug that will not be confiscated by security before stepping onboard a cruise many people can purchase a multi outlet plug that is right for them without fear of it being taken by security before going onboard your cruise. I really hope Royal rethink's this ban on multi plugs and updates this where it list approved TSA multi plugs and only confiscates multi plugs that are not on the approved list and not multi plugs in general as a whole as many already travel with a multi plugs as part of their necessities in order to have their devices adequately charged accordingly to their size of their party and their stateroom.
Yes, I am booked on the Prima (transatlantic next year) and they cancelled 2 of our ports and now we have 4 sea days straight. Not so happy about the change
Thanks for updates, I always take charger plug in, not sure how we would charge even two cell phones as some of these older ships do not have enough outlets
Okay - i’d love Donna Summer and Prince tribute shows. Even though I’m older than you, Don, i grew up in a house where popular music was not allowed, so i don’t have quite the attachment to Elvis. About the band on multi plugs, extension cords, etc., that would keep me from cruising with them. What about passengers who need CPAP machines? We live in an electrical world!!
I agree that the multi outlet adapters are a necessity for people, and if they ban them, they need to provide more in their staterooms, especially on older ships.
I bet you they will have european and american adaptors in the shop, since the newer ships have plenty, just devided into 2 110 and 2 european on each side. Before you leave buy the cheap adaptars, they are about 2.00 dollars
Can they provide one instance where using a multi plug caused a fire? Because everyone uses them and has used them for decades. I will recommend buying adapters from US plugs to EU outlets. Usually there are a couple of EU outlets (two prong) in the cabin that you can utilize to charge electronics.
I uses Bipap, and my wife does also, not using my machine can cause brain damage and disturb other cabins. HUGE lawsuits will occur and the cruisers will win huge!!!
We always bring a power strip to plug in our 2 cell phones, an iPad, an Apple Watch, etc. There have never been enough outlets in the ships we have been on and we have cruised 14 times. We cruise on Carnival and our most recent was on Viking.
Prince also sang Raspberry Beret and When Doves Cry and 1999. It might be fun! I can understand why a multi port plug would be useful. Too bad it is now not allowed on board. Safety first!
Theoretically all outlets should be protected by a circuit breaker to prevent overloading. If that's not the case, is suggests a general design flaw in their ship electrical systems.
On a recent Celebrity cruise, my cruise power bar was confiscated. I did have a USB charging block and I had a European plug converter, which worked out just fine.
Prince lives 5 miles from our home in Chaska and we love all his songs. The Donna Summer Tribute was great! It was more like a play and flashback of her whole life and really really good!!!!
I just got off Ovation of the Seas on Friday. I had both an old fashioned extension cord and a power block (not surged protected) with me and had no issues.
Oops, I just booked a cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. Last time, there were two plugs in the cabin. I hoped to use technology to overcome this serious deficiency but the luddites at RC have blocked me. Two CPAPS and no power.
I would suggest the European adapter to give you more options for now. I can understand the challenge of so many more devices needing to be charged now days. I wonder if they would consider allow adapters that only have USB outlets. This is the bulk of what most of us need and the chargers for our phones and tablets and cameras draw very little power and should not over tax the circuit.
Most fires I read about on ships occur in the engine room, are they going to ban engines, too?? I'm so glad it is someone besides Carnival that is getting all the negative attention for a change, and this is completely insane.. They have made virtually everything dependent on a phone or other device to do find out anything about what's happening, and they want to stop people from being able to charge them when they are asleep?? I have never cruised on Royal, and now I know I will keep it that way.
I agree an extension cord is essential. I use a CPAP machine without the extension cord, There’s no way I can connect it, unless I’m in a brand new ship and next to my bed, there’s an outlet
Multi outlets are required! On some ships difficult to even power my clap machine (extension cord provided by ship run across room) utilizes one of two plugins available in room.
We had this taken from us on our last cruise for the first time ever. And it was on the Liberty of the seas where they don’t have many outlets. Definitely a pain in the butt when you have a Cpap machine 😡
One outlet for the Cpap. One outlet to recharge the mobility device. Now im out of outlets. Add one European voltage adapter and I can get one more US Edison and maybe 3 usb ports. That’s doable.
This will definitely be an issue the next time we sail with Royal. Being seniors we do not book the newer ships so we sail on the ships with only 2 USA outlets in them. However, as we spend more time than others in our cabin, we may be able to get by. But not sure this is a legitimate issue. Most everything we plug in is a small fraction of an amp. Ensuring items aren't plugged in when we're not in the cabin seems to me to be more important.
My husband and I both use bipap machines and need our cords to plug them in. We can't sleep without them. I wonder if medical necessity would allow for the cords.
Have your TA to inform them of your needs. Royal has provided me with an extension cord and distilled water. When it wasn't in the cabin when we arrived the cabin steward had it there within an hour of letting him know we had previously arranged it.
The avoiding 2 ports has zero to do with fuel and everything to do with port cost because it cost fuel to sail regardless. Many ships are simply adding more sail days to avoid port costs. I have seen transatlantic that have 8+ sea days before they make one stop, and others on the same route that only have 4-5. The longer sea days also allow them to charge more for the sailing.
We just cruised on Wonder Princess. There was ONE American outlet! Two European outlets. There were two usb ports, one in each lamp. So not many charging places.
Looks like RC is gonna pi** off a lotta cruisers for banning ext cords. First, I got to have a fan. And how about 2 cell phones? Laptop maybe? I understand NO surge protector strips. They force us to use electronics for dining reservations, daily schedules, etc. and now your only allowed to charge one item at a time? With only one outlet avail on most older ships?
Just sailed on MSC Seashore, a fairly new ship without outlets on the nightstands. My wife and I both use CPAP machines and brought along extension cords. No hassle from MSC so I guess we won't be sailing on Royal Carribean unless they have bedside outlets.
THEY NEED MORE OUTLETS. Period. We sail on Princess primarily and we have to run an extension cord because they only outlet on the old ships they run out of SF only have ONE outlet. Fix the actual problem cruise lines!
Put them in your carry on. I know of people who have brought on surge protectors in their carry ons. Security is looking for "dangerous" items and a multi outlet adapter won't look like one. I've seen x-rays of a half dozen and none look alike.
Had mine taken from my carry on, it all depends on the security staff at the port. And this was last year on Celebrity. The staff said Royal is very tough on these items (Celebrity is part of RCCL). A year ago!! I went to customer service who said any multi outlet adapter is a hazard. They are finally putting in writing what their policy is. Celebrity better get their prohibited items updated pretty quickly. There are going to be hundreds of these items in the “naughty room”.
Already use a single 120 volt AC to 6 port USB adapter😎. For phone/watch we use induction charging phone/watch base powered by USB power banks. This leave the USB adapter ‘open’ for charging Chromebooks and tablets. ONE 120 volt AC plug is all we need👍
For my January NCL cruise, Donna Summer is being replaced by Bossa Nova Beat. I know I'll enjoy Bossa Nova more than Donna Summer. And, even I'm going solo, I'll still bring a multi port charging block or two. I have a cell phone, tablet, 2 sets wireless ear buds, 2 batteries, and a portable neck fan.
As most are saying, RCL needs to provide something for cruisers to be able to charge and use their devices if they are going to ban adapters, non-surge protected power bars, and non-surge protected extension cords. I was just on a HAL ship where there were two plugs (a North American socket and a European socket) in the room, over the desk, way more than 6 feet away from the foot of the closest bed. Both my roommate and I use CPAPs and needed that extension cord to allow both of us to breathe at night. RCL banning extension cords will mean CPAP users will not be able to use their machines in many of the staterooms.
While I certainly don’t want to give up the multi outlet plugs, I can see the point of view from the ship. In a home, if we plug too much into a circuit, it pops the circuit breaker - minor disruption. But what happens on a ship if multiple circuits are popped at the same time. It could cause major problems on the ship. That being said, there needs to be work done on the ship to allow for more voltage so there won’t be problems.
Extension cords also!? I need my extension cord to plug in my CPAP machine by the bed. All the ships that we’ve been on don’t have plugins by the bed. This is a medical condition that Royal Caribbean will have to address.
We depend on the multi-plug outlets. My husband uses a cpak due to sleep apena, AND rarely are there plugs to power his machine near the bed! This absurd policy.
For the older ships maybe RCCL should provide the multiplug that they feel confident will work trouble free, that maybe provides at least 2 plugs for 2 cell phones.
@@tommyb2121 The older ships typically have two US outlets and two European outlets which is why I started bringing adapters with me so I could use all four to be able to plug in my electronics.
If multi outlet/port plug ins are being banned, then Royal Carribean needs to provide an acceptable substitute in the staterooms.

the problem RCL is YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OUTLETS!!!!
Banning the extension cube is going to be rough on the older ships I myself have a scooter , a CPAP, my phone, and iPad Ito charge. Having been on the older ships I know for sure there are not enough plugs in the cabins.
Solution is get a laptop with long cord like the apple charger with longer plug. Then plug everything to your laptop since lots of items are now USB-C
Wow but for my travel needs I have use a multi head USB cord. One end is type A and the other end has three plugs for Micro, USB-C and Apple. Use
I really hope Royal rethink's this ban on multi plugs and updates this where it list approved TSA multi plugs and only confiscates multi plugs that are not on the approved list and not multi plugs in general as a whole as many already travel with a multi plugs as part of their necessities in order to have their devices adequately charged accordingly to their size of their party and their stateroom.
yes, I have traveled with that also, when I cruise with 3 people in a cabin, they need more plugs then! No Ban
Yes, I am booked on the Prima (transatlantic next year) and they cancelled 2 of our ports and now we have 4 sea days straight. Not so happy about the change
We just got off MSC and there was an Elvis impersonator. He had the costumes/outfits. His name was Angel from Chile. Really impressive.
Thanks for updates, I always take charger plug in, not sure how we would charge even two cell phones as some of these older ships do not have enough outlets
Don't forget about the USB outlets in the back of the TV! Not everyone thinks of that one.
They need a lot more plugs if we can not bring anything.
That will be a bummer because I use a c-pap so I need the extension cord and extra outlets
My wife and I use Bipap, so no extension cords will stop me from cruising with them!!! Medical devices need priority!!!!!!!
I uses Bipap, and my wife does also, not using my machine can cause brain damage and disturb other cabins. HUGE lawsuits will occur and the cruisers will win huge!!!
Yes, need more plugs
Thanks Don . Very informative video. I’ve done a few cruises and want to do another within a few years .
We always bring a power strip to plug in our 2 cell phones, an iPad, an Apple Watch, etc. There have never been enough outlets in the ships we have been on and we have cruised 14 times. We cruise on Carnival and our most recent was on Viking.
How dare you use a multi port adapter 🤣😂🤣
Thanks for the updates Don
Prince also sang Raspberry Beret and When Doves Cry and 1999. It might be fun! I can understand why a multi port plug would be useful. Too bad it is now not allowed on board. Safety first!
Theoretically all outlets should be protected by a circuit breaker to prevent overloading. If that's not the case, is suggests a general design flaw in their ship electrical systems.
On a recent Celebrity cruise, my cruise power bar was confiscated. I did have a USB charging block and I had a European plug converter, which worked out just fine.
No more sailing on Royal Caribbean. My husband and I both use CPAPs. Since most of their ships only have 1 outlet, it's not going to work for us.
Prince lives 5 miles from our home in Chaska and we love all his songs.
The Donna Summer Tribute was great! It was more like a play and flashback of her whole life and really really good!!!!
Not any more...
I just got off Ovation of the Seas on Friday. I had both an old fashioned extension cord and a power block (not surged protected) with me and had no issues.
Banning all the plugins, should help Wifi to be faster since a lot of devices will have dead batteries.
Oops, I just booked a cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. Last time, there were two plugs in the cabin. I hoped to use technology to overcome this serious deficiency but the luddites at RC have blocked me. Two CPAPS and no power.
The Radiance of the Seas is very old and the few outlets will in an inconvenient location.
They took my multi outlet on my last cruise out of Cape Liberty last april...they need to fix it by giving us alternatives
Total BS. NCL needs to change their itineraries before they post them. I cry foul.😢
Agree, NCL is becoming famous for cancelling ports.
Grew up listening to Prince. I’d love this.
Also bring adapter only one outlet in the room is not enough. Especially on the older ship. We have our tablet, phone, Bluetooth that need charging
This is terrible! If they are going to ban multi-outlet plugs, then they better put more outlets into the rooms!
Goodbye RCL. I need several plugs, and an extension cord.
You NEED to bring a multi outlet plug because there are never enough outlets in the staterooms / suites.
Thank you for the update.
No cords even when requested for my cpap as I have sleep apnea. Which is detrimental to my health.
RC better come up with more outlets if they are going to ban the multi output plug.
Royal Caribbean is not the only game in town. Perhaps they should keep that in mind.
That being said, there needs to be work done on the ship to allow for more voltage so there won’t be problems.
my husband has a CPAP which needs an extension cord to plug in.. what do they say to that?
Extension cords also!? I need my extension cord to plug in my CPAP machine by the bed. All the ships that we’ve been on don’t have plugins by the bed. This is a medical condition that Royal Caribbean will have to address.
If you let them know, they will provide you with a cord for your CPAP machine.
I didn’t know curling irons are banned too ! I forgot mine then overheard a lady saying they took hers
