    BEST video I found on this cast on! Clear image and explanation, just slow enough that we can do it while watching! Thank you!!!

    Excellent video as always. I've seen several who show this with the crochet hook but this is the only one I've seen that shows how to do it directly on the needles. So much more straightforward.

    Remarkably good descriptions here, both in how to do it, and what makes it work. Thank you.

    What a high-quality video! Very clear instructions and I could easily follow along with your instructions.

    Just use a crochet hook and slip stitch number of stitches needed through "magic loop". Transfer stitches before pulling loop tight. (I prefer 3 DPNs) Also known as Emily Ocker cast on.

    Thank you so much for this. I have a book on cast ons & bind offs & I just couldn't get it. I followed what you were doing & got it the first time. I wish you were here when I was trying to cast on for my daughter's wedding shawl a few years back. 😀

    How do you knit the row after it's in this formation? I can complete this tutorial, but I don't know how to continue after this set up.

    Thanks for sharing this method. I'm knitting the Twinkle Twinkle Blanket by Helen Stewart/Curious Handmade and I was looking for an invisible cast on for the centre. This has given a very neat finish and I'm really happy with how the centre of the blanket looks.

    This is great but I can't find anything which follows on from this ie knitting in the (magic loop) round with these shorter circular needles. Need to knit in the round but it's for a flat hexigon pattern.

      Whenever I'm knitting magic loop with this cast on, I just cast onto one needle tip, tighten the magic ring and slide the sts all the way down the cord to the other needle tip. I like to divide the sts into the normal magic loop configuration as I knit the first round.

    The video I am using says to circular cast on 9 stitches. How do I do this when they go two at a time?

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's always best to end this CO with a stitch that's pulled through the center ring. So for an odd number of sts, begin the CO with a st that's pulled through the ring then YO. Continue alternating and end with a final stitch pulled through the ring.

    Interesting cast on. Can you tell me what the benefit is to using this cast on?

    • @dianeschuller
      @dianeschuller 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In addition to using it for toe-up socks, it's an essential type of cast on if making say a circular blanket or circular shawl. Or for small projects like circular dishcloth.

      Diane Schuller thank you. I still waffling about starting another pair of socks. I have a second to a pair on the needles now and I’m confused as to how to do the heal (I misplaced the pattern!🙄). But should I start another pair it will be toe up and I will come back to review this video. Thanks again for sharing.

      Stefanie Staniak watch Purl Together. Jana has awesome sock tutorials that are step by step instructions for heel flap & gusset construction whether on toe up or cuff down socks. Just look up Purl Together Socks and you’ll be on your way!

    what do you do if you are casting on a number that does not end with into the hole?
    I have to cast on 24

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! If you're casting on an even number of sts start with a YO then insert your needle into the hole and pull a stitch through and keep alternating. If you are casting on an odd number of sts, skip the initial yarn over and just insert the needle into the hole and pull a stitch through, then alternate between a YO and pulling a stitch through the hole. Happy knitting! 💖
