This is the ONLY video that teaches this method well. I thought I'd lost it and had to wade through a couple dozen ineffective videos to find it again. Phew! So glad I did. I am saving it this time.
Best pinhole cast-on I have seen. Looks very similar to a single crochet magic loop, but the last yarn-over is only puled through 1 loop, leaving 2nd loop on the hook. Would be easy to do with a crochet hook and then moving loops to double pointed needles.
Thank you so much for this. Every other time I’ve done the pinhole cast-on it was such an exercise in frustration. I’m doing the Musselburgh hat now. This is so much better!
my first thought was to use a same size crochet hook for pulling through the loop and then transfer to knitting needles. Then I realized it really is a crochet magic loop.
I have watched numerous videos TRYING to do the pin-hole cast on. None of them made sense. Somehow I found this video and I now understand!! Not only great video, nice up close pictures but your narrative is so clear and concise. Thank you!
I agree with so many here…..the best tutorial on the pinhole cast on. I am just about to start another Musselburgh and have been procrastinating. Thank you so much!
I would like to add my two cents worth as to what Andrea just said. Thank you so much your tutorial on the pun hole was the best if found, and if look alot. Thank you thank you❤
Thank you so much. You've made my day. I've got the pinhole cast on now thanks to your clear no-nonsense tutorial. I tried to knit a Musselburgh hat last year and had to abandon it because I couldn't do the cast on. Sorted now and already at the 'knit stockinette forever' stage.
Thank you so so much! I have been trying different ways to cast on the Musselburgh hat and this tutorial wins! I really appreciate your clear instructions.
Even tho' I "PLOWED" my way through casting on my first Musseburgh Hat I was really reluctant to start another one because of the dreaded pinhole cast-on. Well lo and behold, I found your tutorial and I'm starting my second hat today. Thank-you so much. Ditto to every comment before me❤
THANK YOU!!!! This worked so well. I was getting frustrated because I could not get a good cast on for this project. I have now cast on and am working along on dpns, which are not my favorite, but IT WORKS! Thanks again.
This is the best method ever! I like that the same needles are used rather than a crochet hook where the hook gets in the way as the stitches are transferred to the knitting needle.
Scrolling through your previous videos and I found this particular video… wow, just wow. You have made this cast on so easy and doable. I have been a subscriber for years, you are the first I turn to when I need help!
i really like how you took all the time in the world. not rushing, then you showed how to get it done with DPNs and divide them.. awesome. i am going to try to dive in to the Musselburgh hat. i also liked and subscribed.
While searching around the Mussleburg hat sites, I thought I remembered you had done a video on pinpoint CO. I found it and love your technique- like I knew I would! Thanks for making it!!
@@PurlTogether you definitely should, it’s a great mindless make! Lots & lot & lots of knitting between top & bottom, no binding off, just increases, knitting & decreasing. That’s it! It’s a lovely warm hat.
You are a great teacher. I love how you explain what your fingers are doing in a language I understand, like squishing the stitch. Lol 😆 thank you so much. P/s try using an emery board to smooth out your cats teeth marks from your needles lol
Why didn’t I come here first?! Simple, clear, no fuss, no muss! You are a delight. I have tried to get this over ten times and I now get it! So happy to be a Patreon of yours!❤️🧶❤️🥰🇨🇦🥳
There are just some cast-on's that I don't frequently do and this is one. Only once have I done this and thankfully you've got this on vid. I don't like reading and following pictures though if that's all I had (the first and only time) I would and glad I don't! 😉
I have done a crochet version of this cast on several times to make bowls and amigurumi toys. It is so good to know that the same technique can be used for knitting!
Oh thank you, Janna! Easiest pinhole cast on tutorial I've seen so far. I really like the concept of starting a project from a cast on that's almost invisible...
What a fab way to get that tiny tidy hole in the centre of a hexagon which is started from the centre. The video was so clear and I need to watch more of your good ideas - many thanks.
Thank you for this tutorial. I been trying the penhole cast on on double point needles, magic loop and My needles always slip out and I'm left with all my stitches dangleing in mid air. But I will try your method. I think I can handle it. So thank you again.
I love this cast on and use it all the time. But somewhere along the line, I learned to do it with a crochet hook. I pull up a loop in the circle, then pull the working yarn through that loop. Just repeat around.
Absolutely amazing! The best pinhole caste in I have seen. Different from all the rest. You Rock! I will still probably still use the one I invented but will try this first.
I just found that it's possible to begin the stitch with the crochet version and just slide it over :D (I drop a lot of stitches as a primarily crocheter)
Thank you for this! Your tutorial was better and easier to remember the the other circular cast on I was using. And I found it easy to just use my fingers instead of the second needle. 💕
Thanks for that! Saving this for sure. Also, when you said "I'm not left-handed", I thought of The Princess Bride where Inigo Montoya says that during the fencing scene. 🤣
Thank you, this was very helpful to be able to start the Musselburgh hat. Just wondering, does it matter which way you do the yarn over for the pinhole cast-on? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?
I was using a mini-skein in classic sock from an advent kit from Sunshine Yarns from 2019. I'm sorry I don't recall the exact color way, but I believe it may have been called "Lost World"
I am so excited because you made a technique so much easier for me and I can now knit a beautiful baby blanket I’ve had my eyes on! Thank you so much Jana!
Thank you so much! I normally go to @verypinkknits for all my tutorials and was having a hard time pulling the one loop over the other!! Great alternative!

That’s a great idea! I can do that for my first Musselburgh.
A magic loop for knitting! Yay!
Thank you so much for this. Every other time I’ve done the pinhole cast-on it was such an exercise in frustration. I’m doing the Musselburgh hat now. This is so much better!
Glad it was helpful!
Far and away the clearest and best demonstration of the pinhole cast on. Fabulous... you've made this knitter in Wales very happy
Thanks so much 😊

Oh my gosh I have never fully understood the pinhole cast on until now. thank you!!
I agree with so many here…..the best tutorial on the pinhole cast on. I am just about to start another Musselburgh and have been procrastinating. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Best method of pinhole cast on that I’ve seen!
Glad it was helpful!
I would like to add my two cents worth as to what Andrea just said. Thank you so much your tutorial on the pun hole was the best if found, and if look alot. Thank you thank you❤
Thank you so much for this video. I have tried others and it was a mess. This is clear and worked the first time!

Fantastic!
Thank you so so much! I have been trying different ways to cast on the Musselburgh hat and this tutorial wins! I really appreciate your clear instructions.
You are so welcome!
Thank you thank you! Your video did the trick after I watched many others that continually confused me. Thank you!
I’m glad it helped!
Thanks for this tutorial! I was able to get this on my first try using your video! Musselburgh here I come! :D

Wow, thank you!
This is by far the best video of the pinhole cast on. Thank you so much! Because of this video I can start my Musselburgh hat. Thank you
Glad it helped!
Your video is the best I’ve ever watched. Thank you

Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you, thank you! Your method allowed my uncoordinated fingers to finally get this. Plus your camera work was geat!
Glad it helped!
Just used this on the Musselburgh hat. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! So easy with your instructions. The slingshot version is so hard!
Glad it helped! I was just thinking about that pattern this morning and wondering if I could squeeze in another project!
@@PurlTogether you definitely should, it’s a great mindless make! Lots & lot & lots of knitting between top & bottom, no binding off, just increases, knitting & decreasing. That’s it! It’s a lovely warm hat.
I did it. Whoooooooo Yippy!! Thank you.

Thanks Laurel!
Great technique video! It’s like the magic circle in crochet! Great cast on! Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
It really is! Now in my list to practice! Thanks again!

I really appreciate your videos. They are clear and I learn so much. Thank you.
Thank you so much!! Now I can start the Musselburgh Hat Hugs ann
What a fab way to get that tiny tidy hole in the centre of a hexagon which is started from the centre. The video was so clear and I need to watch more of your good ideas - many thanks.
Finally! I can do the pinhole cast on woo hoo! It turned out perfect first shot! Thank you very much for the tutorial. Very easy to understand.🧶
Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much!!
Thank you thank you! After many failed attempts at other methods, I was able to watch your demo once, and get right to the knitting!
Wonderful!
This really helped! Other ways to do this we’re not successful for me, so thanks very much! I’m using this to start a Musselburgh hat.
Glad it helped!
You are the best teacher ever!!!! Thank you very much for sharing! ,💪💪😍
Thank you! 😃
Thank you Jana, another great video, you’re my go-to for how-to. I’m going to knit the Anthology Throw.
Thank you for this tutorial. I been trying the penhole cast on on double point needles, magic loop and My needles always slip out and I'm left with all my stitches dangleing in mid air. But I will try your method. I think I can handle it. So thank you again.
Thank you Jana, love your tutorials, I have attempted this for two days and watched your video and did it!!!
Wonderful!
I love this cast on and use it all the time. But somewhere along the line, I learned to do it with a crochet hook. I pull up a loop in the circle, then pull the working yarn through that loop. Just repeat around.
Amazing!! I've wondered for quite some time how to do this cast on. Thank you for demonstrating this so clearly.
You're very welcome!
Absolutely amazing! The best pinhole caste in I have seen. Different from all the rest. You Rock! I will still probably still use the one I invented but will try this first.
Thanks very much for this. It was very helpful
So easy to understand, ty, ty, ty
Thanks, Jana!
Awesome tutorial thank you 😃
This was very clear thank you! My cats chew on the wooden needles too 🤣
This is so clear and fun..thanks so much 😊
Awesome tutorial on this cast on method. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. Starting my first mussleburgh hat. I didn’t know how to start
I just found that it's possible to begin the stitch with the crochet version and just slide it over :D (I drop a lot of stitches as a primarily crocheter)
Thanks for the technique. I am a crocheter also and you also can do this in crochet. It’s call the magic loop in crochet.
Nicely done. Thanks.
Thank you for this! Your tutorial was better and easier to remember the the other circular cast on I was using. And I found it easy to just use my fingers instead of the second needle. 💕
Awesome thank you. Such a clear video on this technique
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for that! Saving this for sure.

Amazing! Thanks so much!
Thank you! just today I used this helpful video and method to start on the Musselburgh hat by Ysoda Teague.
Fantastic!
Great video thank you
Great tutorial! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This is awesome! What kinds of projects can you do with this?
Most recently I've used this cast on to knit the Musselburgh hat and all the squares for the Radvent Throw
Awesome! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you! A great help!
Thank you, this was very helpful to be able to start the Musselburgh hat. Just wondering, does it matter which way you do the yarn over for the pinhole cast-on? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?
I've only done it the way I've shown here. Let me know if you experiment with it!
This is great but is much asier to do with a crochet hook then transfer them onto the knitting needle\
Could the Christmas balls be knitted with magic loop using this method? Ty
I'm not sure which specific pattern you're referring to, but yes, if it's an ornament, I'd try it!
Could you tell me what yarn you were using and the color way?
Thank you for the video. It’s my first time seeing your podcast.
I was using a mini-skein in classic sock from an advent kit from Sunshine Yarns from 2019. I'm sorry I don't recall the exact color way, but I believe it may have been called "Lost World"
What other projects use this cast on? Do you have any good links especially free patterns?
Anything that begins from the center out! I don't have any specific links, but would suggest a Ravelry keyword search. Happy Knitting!
Love sweater
Hi. I like the collar of the sweater you're wearing. Did you make it? If so, which pattern. Thanks.
I did make it. It's the Cozy Winter Shawl. Here is a link to my Ravelry project page:
www.ravelry.com/projects/JanaKnitsalot/cozy-winter-2
You rock
I like it! However, it's so much easier to do it with a crochet hook, then transfer to your knitting needles.
Wow
The yarn is too fine to see what is going on and the terminology is confusing. Could not make this work. Am a very experienced knitter.
