I've had VR since 2016, I have an HTC Vive Pro that's wireless, with the Valve Index controllers. IMO, VR is cool, it's neat, you should experience it; but really consider spending too much money on it.
Most of the games are just rinse and repeat.
Rhythm games, puzzle games, rail shooters, hoard defense. That's going to be the bulk of games. There's also the VR chat type things. Then there's normal games, you can play in VR. It's cool, but once that wears off, you realize you're playing a game you already played; or can play faster, easier and more comfortable with a controller.
I mean, do you really want to stand in place for an hours to play RE8 again?
If you look at what people play the most in VR, it's Beat Saber and VR Chat. Kind of says how VR is going.
But all in all, yeah; experience it some way, then decide if you want to invest. My set-up just collects dust because of all the reasons I listed.

I think people are missing the point of the PSVR2-PS5, it is a high end PCVR quality VR system for around $1100, and that makes it very reasonable for what it brings to VR, both PVCR and Meta do not have the Triple-A games to push VR forward, but more PCVR headsets and standalone will be released into a stagnated market so everyone will be playing the same games they were playing 3 years ago but on faster better but more expensive headsets and PC Hardware, PSVR2 is the push into the future that VR needs right now.

The issue is that with VR if you can spin around irl (instead of using click or smooth turn) this can stop nausea/add immersion. It's not a deal breaker though. I used VR for years wired to a PC and even though it's mildly irritating it's still fine. You just develop a sense of where it is when playing and need to unravel it every now and again.

Why do people keep complaining about the freaking price? Let that person decide if something is expensive or not. To compare the price to Oculus was not only unprofessional, but has nothing to Dow with the PSVR2 review. Yet we are wondering why VR is slowly “dying”. Reviewers like this are annoying as heck. Stick with review. Keep it positive and move the F on. You can bring up the negative in almost anything. It’s counterproductive to a healthy environment. I’m not saying lie about a product, just keep it upbeat. I miss the days when games/devices just gave you the good information. It’s been proven that people remember the one negative out of the thousand good. Your not being a good “reviewer” just because your adding bad things. You just come off as annoying and causing harm.

VR is slowly dying? That's odd, since meta went on a rant about how they want an XR future, then sold 20 million wireless headsets for $300 (initially). A whole bunch of quest clones flooded the market, CES '23 was loaded with AR glasses prototypes, Apple is working on their top secret headset, Meta partnered with Qualcomm and Microsoft to continue the Quest line, Google partnered with Samsung and Qualcomm for XR device development.
But sure if that's what "slowly Dying" is. Lol

It still boggles my mind that no one can seem to go 15 seconds without saying how expensive this is. Yes, you need a PS5. But the headset itself is $50 more than Quest 2 large HD version (A whole, whopping 10%), and this device obliterates the quest in visual fidelity and horsepower. With the obsession about price talk, you'd think this thing cost was the Pimax Crystal does.

To be honest, the PSVR 2 is not expensive at all. Nowadays a RTX 4080 costs minimum $1200 for just a overpriced card. I used to game on PC only, but I have been gaming on my PS5 every now and then. What makes the PS5 successful is the games are optimized, they run smooth and beautiful. On the other hand, nowadays pc games especially the AAA titles are not optimized at all, developers expect the gamers all use 4080 or 4090 to run their games in 4k. For a pc gamer to run high resolution on a high end VR, it requires a $3000+ system plus the cost of the headset. For me, the PSVR 2 is a bargain when I know every game I run on it will be smooth and beautiful. Also, I can always resell my ps5 games while I cannot resell my games on Steam.

I think its safe to say Switchback is the system seller. A new technical benchmark for VR right after Alyx and Kayak Mirage. Also the fact that this is a wired device is a huge win. No more latency which translates to much quicker response times and more rock solid consistent framerates. Good luck getting those with wireless VR headsets
Add in FR with OLED 4K HDR lenses and you will get visual fidelity much closer to flatscreen graphics at no cost to framerate. I use the quest 2 but there are better equipped headsets out there but cost around 1,000 dollars . So 1,900-2,500$ vs 1,050$ for a ps5-psvr2 . The psvr2 is more reasonably priced.

Quest will be using for social apps, and psvr2 will be used for better games graphically. As far as PC Vr is concerned, it's cool & all, but I prefer the easier method with consoles, just plug in cable, and jump right into the game, plus they'll be better optimized.

Honestly, this is expensive, but it's also a fantastic deal. I'm convinced they're selling it at a massive loss, considering comparable PC VR headsets are *way* more expensive. It's hard to compare this to the Quest 2, because of the massive drop in quality you're getting with that -- it's closer to a mobile gaming device.
The one issue I have with the PSVR2 is that it's SO games focused, and I kind of want to explore the other sides of VR as well -- importing my 360-degree photos and videos, or flying around in Google Earth. I want to see a lot more innovation in that sphere, and I'm not sure the VR2 is going to explore that so much. But, that said... Games are the main focus of VR for a reason, and I think it's the perfect jumping off point for people who ALSO want a PS5. Considering you get the PS5 AS WELL, for less than the price of a PC VR headset.. that's a great deal.

People keep talking about the high price of the psvr 2 but the original psvr was $400 and required you to buy a PlayStation camera and 2 move controllers which cost... about $560 total. The same price (ish) as the psvr 2. This isn't even including inflation. Also, the meta quest 256gb version is $500 which I think is a much more fair comparison to the psvr 2 because many vr games are large and if you get the smaller storage meta quest 2 you're going to have to do a lot of deleting and redownloading of games, unless you only plan on having a few games. But if you only plan on having a few games then what's the point really?
To top it off, the psvr2 headset is much lighter and you don't have to worry about the battery dying. If the quest 2 gets 2 hours of vr game time max when it's new then you're going to have to recharge it often. If you recharge consumer electronics often then the battery degrades faster. How long before the 2 hour battery life of the quest 2 becomes just 1 hour? At that point it basically needs to be plugged in to be used, just like a psvr.
A lot of consumer products nowadays don't have easily replaceable batteries, so are you just supposed to buy a new quest every cycle or every other product cycle? Seems expensive in the long run. With a psvr you know you'll be able to use it for the whole ps5 cycle at least.

Adjusted for inflation, the Atari 2600 was $960, the Neo Geo was $1,400.
One thousand dollars feels like more money than it is because of its emotional history to consumers. To be sure, it’s still a higher price point, but it’s not that expensive (relative to what you’re getting) when you honestly and unemotionally view $1,000 as what it is today. When I was a kid (I’m 43), yeah, $1,000 would have been an outrageous price point for my parents to deal with! These days, not nearly as much.

    • @jamesharvey44
      @jamesharvey44 ปีที่แล้ว

The Quest 2 is $400 or 500, then for PC gaming you will need; either a Link Cable or a Wi-Fi 6 hub, around 80/100 from Meta though you can cheap out with other brands if it meets specs. Then you need a PC or laptop with a 70 series Nvidia card or 5700XT or 6700xt AMD or better for full resolution gameplay. With used parts you may get up and running for $1000 but then the comparison is flawed (new/vs used, one should compare new to new). Expect to spend more for a decent experience. Then you must have Virtual desktop software to use Steam VR titles for yet 40 dollars more money spent. So say 1200 or more for a playable rig. Total cost Q2 PC rig $1600+ VS $1050 for the PS5/ Vr2. YMMV
