      What is your point? It appears to be: "We can criticize European Conization, and blame it for present day ills, but please don't point out the fact Europeans themselves were Colonized and enslaved and raped, because... " Wait, why? Why do you want to suppress history that fairly chronicles a time? And attribute historical accounts as some sort of offense? Why are you so biased and Euro-phobic?

    I'm from India, this is not just a western academic issue, but a universal issue. In india far-left academicians publish books romanticising Islamic invaders and their architectures by carefully deducting jizya, apartheid suffered by local population. Those who counter it by publishing critical books we're called islamaphobes.

      @@justahuman00If you don’t pay your taxes you get your assets seized. If you don’t pay the Jizya you die, get expelled from your land, or become a slave.
      Also the Jizya is humiliating. So, you pay for the Jizya and stop listening to your imam’s propaganda.

    I appreciate how you're able to give different perspectives on al Andalus without completely demonizing Islam as a whole. Much of the discourse surrounding this religion historically is almost always one-sided and often, I find, the truth lies somewhere between the dominant narratives.

    • @posttenebras
      @posttenebras  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah I wasn't trying to demonize any faith or come with any ridiculous generalizations since that obviously doesn't represent reality and such a long period is naturally complex.
      My point was simple to dispel this purely political myth.
      I'm also quite interested in religion and when you truely start reading it becomes obvious that many interpretations and iterations of practically any larger belief system exists

      @@posttenebrasI think there is no doubt that when Muslims first conquer Islamic Spain that Jews felt they were getting a better deal. Whuch they were compared to their previous visigothic rulers. And I do believe that there was a golden age of Muslim Spain when it comes to tolerance. But this golden age was a golden age for the Christian and Jewish elites living in the urban centers for about 150 years.

    I live in Brazil and I would love to hear a video about the current party elected for presidency (PT - “Worker’s Party”).
    Just to let you know, our current president, Lula, was condemned for money laundering and corruption (millions of dollars involved). These actions were made when he was the former president (2003-2011).
    But then, in a completely political decision, our Supreme Court set him free and made him eligible.
    Now, even freedom of speech is threatened here.

      @@posttenebras I'll definitely check it out, thank you!
      A few of the things you mentioned like Zoroastrians being "People of the Book" and the way Jizya was collected were incorrect. I can make a full list another time when I've gather sources but for now, I'll just mention these 2:
      Very few, if any, scholars of Islam claim that Zoroastrians are considered among Christians, Jews, and Sabians to be People of The Book.
      Jizya, despite having a different purpose than Zakat and other taxes, was often collected in much the same way as any other tax would, not by brutalizing the people who owed it. It was also only to be levied on able-bodied, battle aged non-Muslim men.

      @posttenebras  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pyrosimba2014 with regards to the definition of "people of the book" it's totally true that it depends on the interpretation but since I wasn't going to make islamic law the main focus of the video in any way shape or form I didn't decide to go into that more than needed and with regards to how the jizya is paid my source is within "the myth of the andalusian paradise" just "search" jizya within the book and you can find the part with furthering sources.
      I appreciate your genuine interest in actually finding the truth and being critical.

    The book you’ve suggested reading to others “The Myth” has itself been described and reviewed by others in academia as itself a Myth…oh wait, all the other academics are all in on this big lie because they all got that rich arab money therefore we can’t trust what they say according to you and we can only trust you(!)
    Oh and also this book is written by a dude who couldn’t even study the source material in it’s original language and relied heavily on translations. Go figure! Imagine all his ideas were misinterpreted because he simply did not have access to the language the source material was in, how much material was he forced to over look? Maybe there were untranslated sources of info that COULD’VE led him to other conclusions? Oh well, guess we’ll never know because all we have to do is JUST TRUST YOU(!).
    Be honest with me dude, you’re just here to get some of that rich arab moneyz too😅 i mean, you shamelessly plugged in your patreon links after “poisoning the well” so it does seem like you’re only in it for personal financial gain and not so much the Truth.
    Oh and one more thing, do you realise you and perhaps a bunch of crazy extremists may have something in common- you may both share the same views and interpret verses of the quran and hadith in the same extremists ways 😂
