- Recently a Muslim leader from the Ishbilia Mosque in Seville, Spain, requested a formal apology from the King of Spain for the persecution of Muslims under the Spanish crown following the Reconquista (Reconquest) in the 16th and 17th Centuries. The statements made on Facebook by the leader highlight persecutions, murders and expulsions, without acknowledging that for a period of almost 800 years, when various Islamic dynasties ruled areas of the Iberian Peninsula, almost the exact same actions were commited by Muslim rulers against the dhimmi (non-Muslim i.e Christians and Jews) population.

it is amazing what bold faced liars academia has become to defend their hyper progressive viewpoints. From the way I was taught both in highschool and Uni; Spain started expelling or executing Muslims who refused to convert the second Boabdil handed over the keys. I'm Spanish and I must say Several things.
1) The muslim conquest was absolutely horrific. The more you learn about it the worse it gets. The Spanish have suffered a lot because of them. I think a very illustrative example was the conquest of Santiago De Compostela by Almanzor. By that Time it was already a very holy site, for it's believed the remains of the apostle James are buried there. So a great cathedral standed with 2 world-famous bells. Some of the largest and more intricate of the world. So this Almanzor guy, came up to conquer Santiago de Compostela and after the usual slaughter, burning and general destruction, went to the cathedral, (one of the most holy sites to Christianity) and destroyed the entire city except for the burial of James (Since muslims believe Jesus was a true prophet, not due to respect to Christians). During the conquest captured some Christians to sell as slaves, and made them carry the two bells to Granada as a trophy, without carriage or any help. (760 km apart on a straight line, surely way more following the paths of the day.) Many died in the journey from exhaustion of carrying the giant bells.
2) I live in Catalonia, was for a long time a frontier between the caliphate and the Christians, and you can't imagine how many remains of castles and watch towers there are. No kidding, almost every mountain had either a castle or a watch tower. Some in the most in accessible places you can think of. That goes to show how brutal the war was, that they felt the need to build so many castles in so many places. There were 799 known castles, all built during the Reconquista. That is almost 2,5 castles for every100km2. Compared to the average 0.9 in England, you can see what I mean.
3) It's not just the conquest, the whole Mediterranean has suffered a lot of piracy from the muslims. Stealing and taking slaves all over the Mediterranean. One very notable man that was captured to slavery was Miguel Cervantes, the writer of Don Quixote. That was the 1600s, when the muslims were already expelled. Now imagine how it was when they were in charge.
4) Also there are a lot of clues from historic books and little details that show that the Spanish peoples were absolutely terrified from Muslims, making you think that maybe we were the victims here. One notable example is the expression "No hay moros en la costa", that has the same meaning as "the coast is clear". Notice we say there are no moors at the coast instead of the coast is clear. Because really... The moors were so terrible that it did not matter if there were enemies as long as they were not muslims.
5) The word Moros, does not mean muslim, but rather is the name to the North African ethnic group. Because in Spain all muslims were moros and all moros were muslims some times the term is used to mean muslim, but it's not its true meaning.
@@seleukus856 If you did not convert you were not killed. Where did you get that from? At most you were expelled or sent to a convent to be converted. If anyone was killed it was by a, non state sponsored, angry mob. But that also happened with Muslims or any other. Not saying it was great or anything. But you must understand Muslims were also not kind, and killed any blasphemers, got the other religions as third tier citizens, almost like slaves, and also wanted to eradicate any other belief. But they were still a minority ruling class, and could not replace or kill the population, or they would get an empty country with no one to rule over.
And I would not be so sure cristians were the mos brutal. Muslim kings had special personal guards that tied themselves with chains around the king's tent when in the battlefield to either protect the king or die trying. And also, When a king died, the heir was crowned and all his brothers killed to avoid any in fight. Talk about brutal...
And while Arab influence gift us some musical styles, cuisine and some words, we really have very little in common in any other aspect. Not in architecture, not in law, not in religion, not in clothing, etc..

If you look at history, we didn’t crusade, against Christians, however we invaded, but that did everyone, we didn’t have inquisition on other non Sunni Muslims, we didn’t persecute Jews and Christians in massive style, like Spain as an example.

And Muslims never had any inquisition because an inquisition style system is standard. Under an Islamic state, non Muslims have fewer rights than even women. And are also required to pay an extortionate tax just for being non Muslim. The idea of an Islamic state is that Muslims pray all day, and non Muslims work for them to sustain them. That is why Muslim countries allowed non Muslims. They were their workers.
But while Muslim states allowed non Muslims as their serfs, they were not tolerant. For example... It is absolutely prohibited to do any maintenance at all to churches or any sacred object. With the idea that they will rot eventually.

and sura 3, verse 28 "Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auliyâ (supporters, helpers) instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allâh in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allâh warns you against Himself (His punishment), and to Allâh is the final return. "
And also 9:73 "O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be harsh with them. Their abode is Hell. What a terrible destination! "
What do these verses demand Muslims to do? Share with the disbelievers? Be friends?
It sounds a lot to me like they demand a crusade.
And speaking of the crusade... Sure it started much later than the invasion. That is because Europe was divided in many kingdoms. When Muslims attacked each kingdom fended for themselves, but lost.
So seeing how big of a thread Muslims were, they started to organize. The crusade was given a special name because it was something very special. Many kingdoms that were enemies joined together to defend Christians from the result of the verses above. As you can imagine, it was a diplomatic nightmare to get everyone on board, so they took a long time to do it. And the crusade was not at all against our own. Where did you even get that?

This one is lovely... 8:55 "The worst creatures in the sight of God are those who reject Him and will not believe; " It is literally calling non believers worse than dongs, snakes, rats, cockroaches, etc... If they are so bad, why should anyone be friends with them? It is dehumanizing non believers to later justify their killing.
And here is another one calling for the mistreatment of non believers: 9:123 "O you who have attained faith, combat those of the deniers who are adjacent to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with the people who are mindful(of Him) . "
Combat who? Those that oppress you? NOooo... combat the DENIERS OF THE FAITH!
And notice! It is a requirement of Allah. That is why It ends saying that you should be mindful of him, because if you disobey you go to hell. And also note... That saying you should be harsh with the disbelievers is a polite way of saying that you should have no pity nor mercy on them.
And your argument of "It was intended for that time in Mecca" is absurd. This is the Quran! The eternal word of god! To guide all humanity! Why would the eternal word of god give a useless command for 99.999...% of humanity?

I think that the "who-stole-from-who" reasoning is fruitless. The Catholics took Spain from the Arabs, who took it from the Visigoths, who took it from the Romans, and the Romans from the Carthagenians, and so on. You can go on for years.
Spain apologising for the Reconquista would kind of be like the US apologising to Britain for the American War of Independence.
That's not a sensible comparison. The Muslims invaded the Iberian peninsula and conquered the Spaniards, the Spaniards retaliated centuries later and reconquered the peninsula. Britain founded colonies in North America which were usurped by the USA. It would be reasonable for the USA to apologise for taking Britain's land, it wouldn't be reasonable for Spain to apologise for retaking land that belonged to their ancestors.
It would be like Vietnam apologizing to America for the Vietnam war.
