There's also some additional symbolism with THE JACKEEEEEET. Richie is literally going "These are the clothes of a fearsome enemy that I defeated, and now I'm putting them on you."
That's actually interesting you say that, I was feeling like it had some kind of curse/bad juju since it came from someone Richie knocked off. I mean, Richie got the jacket and he spent 10 years In prison
Richie was old school. The fact he took the jacket off of Rocco Dimeo in a fight was an accomplishment, and Tony, giving it away, hurt him congratulations on 100K Kino
@ He could have even made it clear he didn’t want it. Say he doesn’t want a dead person’s clothes in his house… Anything. Richie’s reason for not wanting it was pretty superstitious so he would have to accept that excuse lol.
Season 2 is one of my favorites. Season 1-4 are for all year round watching, I save the other seasons specifically for the fall / winter time. They just have a winter feeling to them, Idk how to explain it.
I liked how Richie wasn't completely one dimensionally evil - his reaction to the botched hit on Chris was believably pragmatic since he knew he'd be very much under suspicion after their past interactions
Dear Mr. PUREKINO, I just got out of the can yesterday. I had to go do 2yrs and am soooo happy to see that your still at it doing my favorite show. Thank you!
What are you talking about? The Penguin had many great, original scenes, such as the scene where L̶i̶v̶i̶a̶ a̶n̶d̶ U̶n̶c̶l̶e̶ J̶u̶n̶i̶o̶r̶ Francis and Rex Calabrese were plotting to kill T̶o̶n̶y̶ Oz, as well as the scene where T̶o̶n̶y̶ Oz asphyxiated C̶h̶r̶i̶s̶t̶o̶p̶h̶e̶r̶ M̶o̶l̶t̶i̶s̶a̶n̶t̶i̶ Vic.
"The man with the Manson lamps" -- my favourite villain on the show. And the way Janice - "New Jersey Bride" - took him out was among the funniest scenes on The Sopranos.
It's funny how Tony longs for "the old days" but every character like Richie, Feech, Phil Leonardo, etc (who are representations of the old days) are people Tony hates! Not only does he hate them as people but he hates the way they do business, even if it is the more classic way mobsters are known to act
I have a hard time picking anybody over Livia in psychological warfare. Even with some of her clarity slipping away she still managed to hold her own with Janice. Other examples too, domineering Junior, the hit on Tony, etc..
I didn’t even know that about Chrysler and I remember thinking it was weird that he claimed that jacket was “fine Corinthian leather”… I’ve only heard of couches in commercials having that.
LOL, imagine preferring Jackie Jr over literally anyone. I know a lot of people hate Janice but I loved her for saying "Yeah, so what if he's gay!" That episode aired circa 2000, that was a pretty progressive perspective to have at that time.
I agree with your assessment. The Jacket represents Richie's self-inflated ego. It does not negate his accomplishments, but they are not as worthwhile as he thinks they are and don't give him the respect he believes he deserves. Janice knows this and manipulates this insecurity like her mom with Junior.
Richie shit-talking Christopher is one of the funniest moments of whole series. I also love how he stares at Janice at Yoga. He is so out of place. Funny character.
I saw the jacket as a power play. Ritchie came out of prison with a chip on his shoulder he thought he was the natural heir to the family after his brother but he was passed up by the sopranos. Ritchie knows that the sopranos are too powerful to just wack and take over. Pretty much all the capos were in favour of Tony as boss. Ritchie had to win over the key players, and get a foothold. Winning over junior was his big play and he was close. After this he would’ve just had to knock out silvio and chrissy. As the aprile and Juniors crew were the biggest in the family. Everyone else would’ve got in line to keep the money rolling in. The jacket was just ritchie trying to be clever and putting tony in the role of the big shot he’s planning on overthrowing. Sure he was pissed that tony give it away to some rando. But I don’t think that was the breaking point for him. He was planning to take over the whole time
Change is central to the philosophy of Taoism. Wu Wei, which is often translated as "non-action" or "effortless action," is the ability to go with the flow and accept things as they are. Rather than resist change, it is better to let things happen as they happen. Richie, for all his talk about leaving behind the past, for all his attempts to be a new man, is still attached to who he used to be. He can't let go of his old traditions, his old ideas of masculinity, his old status in the mob. Rather than adapt to the world around him, he tries to force everything to conform to his expectations. In the past, he was respected for his violence and brutality, but he is like the unbending tree in the Tao Te Ching. "A tree that is unbending is easily broken. The most flexible tree is the one that bends" (Tao Te Ching, Chapter 76). The unbending tree may look imposing, but it is rigid and stiff (in attitude, perspective), eventually breaking from its own inability to adapt to what's around it. Richie can't use his strengths to move up because they are also his weaknesses. What once gave him power contributed to his demise.
They did costumes and make up on him beautifully. He reminds you of a vampire and often they have him not blinking, and they made sure his face was extra pasty.
You should totally cover Generation Kill and Boardwalk Empire soon! GK has tons of rich content such as interviews and podcasts with Rudy Reyes (who plays himself) and Jason Lilley just to name a couple. Very interesting series. I think your style of video would be very cool to see!
@@jasonjavelin I've actually done a video on Generation Kill already and I interviewed creator Evan Wright before he passed away! The video is on this channel and the interview is on my second channel Kino Studios!
"Fine Corinthian leather!" was the tagline for Chrysler ads as said smoothly by Ricardo Montalban. Sort of how most Americans unfortunately know Sir Ian Richardson mainly from the Grey Poupon ads, not his masterful acting in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy or the original House of Cards. At least Montalban also lives on immortally with Khan in Star Trek.
David Proval was I think the best actor on the show. He was perfect in that role. Scary A F. He also played a similar character in UHF, but with staples in his face.
LOL using "Members Only" as the music on this video! Though scary and without morals, for some reason I enjoyed the character of Richie. I'll have to give credit to David Proval. I expect some of his character's bravado and moves came from Proval's background as a boxer. I have my own "The Jacket," a modern recreation of the aviator's jacket I was issued in US Navy Flight School in 1971.
Brilliant insight on the Alzheimer's conclusion. When we get older, the muscles don't respond like they used to. That's why it's classified as "elder abuse", to assault a senior citizen. It carries more severe sentencing. All those "old school" mobsters needed to be retired by the NY/NJ families. Rusty, Ritchie, Feech, Angelo and Tony B.
I’d love to see you re-review the seasons of Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire in your new style since those old reviews aren’t how you did in Breaking Bad and The Sopranos series reviews
I think that given some more time to adjust Richie may have turned into a contributing member of the crew. He was trying to get up to speed but he was used to the older louder way of being a Mobster. like if we look at David Scatino's situation Tony used up all the store's credit and then destroyed the place. Richie probably would have Beat Davey up and told him to Pay in order to stay healthy. Both ways end in Money but Tony's was more profitable and under the radar. I would have liked to see more of Richie's place. and how he ran his crew. we only really got to see it briefly after the botched hit on Chrissy.
I'd have liked to have heard more about who Rocko was, was he related to the guest of the government, who also had the same first name as Tony's lost Uncle?
Kino, you’re going to build Cineranter a ramp
Pure Kino doesn't want anything to do with Cineranter after what he did to Peter!

Just what I was thinking. Dressing up his new prey in the garb of the old.
I didn't think of that, very allegorical, I love it.
Exactly. Literally saying "hey this guy I beat was the same size as you".

Johnny sack vs Richie April butting heads as bosses of their family would have been crazy to see. Two characters who have tremendous "moxy".
@amer1canalex That would have been awesome, or Richie and Ralph working together to take down Tony
My favorite line of the show “I’ll build a ramp to your ass, drive a Lionel up in there.”
Yeah, but it's the delivery that makes it meme-worthy.
That’s a good line, but my favorite is Ralph saying “A: She’s a hoowah. B: She hit me.” I always die laughing at the line and the delivery.
Congrats on 100K subs Kino.

The Rommel line is pure gold
He couldn’t sell it, the JACKETTTTT!

Richie's trophy jacket was hideous, but nothing compared to the 80s Don Johnson style suit Tony B was wearing.
Richie was always going to get it from somebody. The fact it was Janice and not another gangster was poetic justice.
