Merry Christmas everyone and happy new year! Starting off the new year with a bang with bringing you a retrospective view of the rate of The Sopranos! What are your thoughts on the rats 🐀 Let me know down below! 👇🏻
Lots of Sopranos fans in here siding with the mafia which is weird seeing as the writers intentionally wrote so many rats to demonstrate what a joke the code was and how no one actually took it seriously. You're supposed to laugh at the mobsters, not respect them.
Yeah exactly if anything these "rats" were the smart ones at least they saw through the veil of mafia & noticed its a dog eat dog world, if it's not you it's them.
It's interesting that you use the phrase "got what they deserved" when referring to the rats. I have no sympathy for the made guys who ends up ratting. They knew what they were getting into with the mafia so they have no excuse for betraying their family members and colleagues. I do have sympathy for people like Adriana or Jack, the construction company owner, who are not members of the mob and are being used like pawns by the government. The made men literally tooking blood oath but they would never expose the mafia, Adriana and the other civilians never did that
Adriana was a grown up who knew what she was doing. She was actively involved in illicit activities. She also turned a blind eye when convenient. Christopher should have isolated her better so she would have no evidence to give the feds. But they were both enablers and drug users. Christopher and Tony were pieces of crap, but Adriana was not much better.
Adriana is a filthy rat.....she was an accessory to so many crimes and knowingly so. She watched Cristopher beat and extort people and didnt care so long as she got her nice stuff and the life she wanted. She would have only done a couple years and been out but instead she decided to rat.
I think Adriana’s arc is super complex and as realistic as they get. Super tragic how it all unfolded. Love this show and loved the video man you have at least an alright day
But she didn't die. She ran away to California. Started a new life. Met a young man who was rising in the ranks of his MC Club. Got depressed and hooked on drugs and later OD and had an early birth. Later on she gets clean and then takes care of her sons after he sadly passed away when he ran into a semi truck on interstate 580.
Interested in how the FBI handled Raymond dieing in one of their vehicles and yet they managed to deliver him somewhere so the mob can have a funeral with zero suspicion
Yeah, I kinda wish they actually showed a scene of the FBI guys disposing of Raymonds body just like mafia goons. There’s enough there to realize that’s what had to happen and this show didn’t like beating you over the head with things, but that would’ve been cinematic, sacred, and propane.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx Odds are the FBI just called an ambulance. They could always put it out that they witnessed him have a medical episode while he was under surveillance, the mob guys know the FBI has a duty to intervene when life is at risk.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx It also would've shown that the FBI weren't afraid of using tactics similar to the mob. I mean, just look at the agent who slept with a co-worker to give info on Phil Leotardo to Tony.
I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier with Pussy, Raymond and Eugene all running their own gossip columns. Somehow Tony managed to never slip up and say anything incriminating around those guys?
Well said, I think the same as after watching it when it was released and only getting a chance to review it a decade later it clear just how much was lost on me first time around which is a nod to the incredible quality of the writers and actors. 👍
Ade got the worst of it. The moment she found out her "friend" was FBI she should have said nothing and took the ride to the Long Branch PD for the coke and called Chris who would have called Tony and got Tony's lawyer to handle the charge. She would have made bail pretty quick at which point she could tell Chris and Tony the truth. She would have likely not served any time as it seems it would be a first offense. With regard to the murder that happened in the club, there wasn't enough proof or the FBI would have threatened a murder charge but they only threatened to hand her over to the local PD on the coke. Her first mistake was hiding the murder from Chris. Instead of covering it up she should have called Chris who would have known what to do.
That's what I wanted to know, when Adriana was at the table with "Danielle" (fed) and her boss, why she didn't say "I want my lawyer", that would have stopped them cold in their tracks.
Drugs yes, but they were just the symptoms of the new generation taking over, with little to no concern for long standing rules - just whatever gets them to the top!
I dont think chris is that loyal to tony to the point of letting adriana get whacked , its more of being loyal to himself and looking out for his lifestyle of choice that he decided to betray adriana to tony.
Tony is a crappy leader. That's why he has a rat problem. He showed tremendous favoritism for Chris, then killed him and lied to everyone about it (people knew or at least suspected). He also tried to screw Adrianna, while Chris was still alive. He beat up Ralph in contravention of the rules, then killed him and lied to everybody about that, too. He protected Tony B when he shouldn't have, at great cost to everybody else in the family. He considered whacking Paulie just for being annoying on a road trip. His whole tenure as boss started dishonestly, with him deceiving Junior about who was really in charge. It's also possible that Phil is right about the half-assed way they make people in Jersey, failing to invest ceremonial importance into it. This thing has meaning or no meaning.
It wasn't because paulie was annoying, he knew paulie was the one who told Johnny sack about the joke and caused all the trouble with New York. Paulie cost him a lot of money by playing both sides of the fence.
Of everyone he killed, Christopher's death could have been for like 10 different reasons with substance abuse being the straw that broke the camel's back. Ain't it ironic Tony had Pussy whacked and that very thing caused the first rift between him and his nephew from Adriana all the way to" Kaisha"?
Viewers siding with the mafia who perpetrated murder, drug addiction, and organized crime, is actually the metaphorical/cosmic “joke”of the show. The writing was done so well that you don’t realize you’ve been manipulated into siding with a group who would not only not have your best interest in mind, but would actively try to harm you if you were perceived as a threat.
Eugene’s death is the worse I’ve ever seen in any show or Horror movie. A Very realistic Hanging, piss down the leg and all, is worse that Fake blood splattering everywhere

If you don't rat, you go to prison, then when you get out, they pretend they're going to reward you for not being a rat but they never do. All you do is go to prison, get out with nothing, they mob gives you a few scraps and then they either kiII you or frame you to send you back to prison. The problem with the rats, is that they had no situational awareness. They'd do things like refuse to change clothes in front of others, let a car run over their foot, they tell their fiance, or they ask weird questions and make situations really odd. If you get pinched, you're better off ratting, and telling the FBI when you've been ID'd.

To be fair it was never confirmed that Jimmy was a rat. Even his reaction could have just been one of knowing that if they think you’re a rat, you’re screwed regardless whether you are or not.

Not much bugs me about the Sopranos but that story line was very unsatisfactory .. This video putting it together like this helps but there is still nothing concrete.
@@Anthony113010 Yeah they did it that way on purpose in the show, leaving it unanswered because that’s how the mob operates, and the audience carried that weight too. They don’t have 100% confirmation but they have to make the call regardless. And they wouldn’t bother reflecting back after the fact since what’s done is done, and it’s not like they have a moral compass.
I always thought Jimmy Altieri being a rat was a red herring, or that it could be interpreted in 2 ways. I figured they assumed it was Jimmy because of the description given by Makazian, and Tony was lying to himself because he couldnt even think of the rat being Pussy. I also figured the basement scene with Jimmy and Tony, to be more of Tony's paranoia and confirmation bias convicing himself that it is indeed Jimmy thats the rat. I dont know, I could be off though. Looks like i need to rewatch the show...again...lol
What gets me is that, so far as I can tell, the rats never felt any guilt about the lives they led up to that point. They were criminals before they turned and during their informing and, like Henry Hill, they’d probably continue to be criminals once they were “out.”
i love how everybody feels sorry for adrianas ending when she knew EXACTLY what chris did, took part in enjoying all the perks that came with the life, was dealing coke out of the club PLUS aided matush in the murder. OH yea she was such a sweet innocent girl lol
Chris did also beat her to a pulp on a number of occasions, she was from a family of criminals in the first place much like most of the other main characters, wasn't she related to Richie. She thinks Christopher has tried to kill himself buy in fact he has given her up to death and she is absolutely terrified crawling on the ground before being shot, it was a brutal ending for her that showed what murdering scum Tony, Chris and Sil really are.
I think every single person on this show would cringe at the fact YOU say it was “deserved”. I don’t think you realize that isn’t supposed to be how you feel lmao. You’re saying dude should’ve been like “yeah fuck my disabled son and the fact I’m an old man, we have a code” a code every single person who didn’t rat still broke in a dozen different ways
3:35 Tony suspected that Pussy was wearing a wire at the Christmas party but it was ultimately speculation on his part so it can't be accepted at face value. Especially considering that this is outright contradicted in a scene by Pussy's FBI handler who specifically reminds him that he's been an FBI informant since 1998, which all but settles the matter.
Idk if it's partly makeup, but Tony got old QUICK by the end of the show. James def took some damage doing this show. He aged like a damn president in office
He looked old from the start. He was only in his mid 30s at the start of the show but to me looked more like late 40s. He looked the same age as Silvio (even though Steven van zant is 11 years old than him). By the end of the series he looked like he was 65, (even though he was only late 40s).
Mr. Gandolfini was 51 at death. It probably did take a toll on him. Big shooting schedule and full concentration with his lines and knowing the lines of other characters in order to act out Tony in situations. Being in character as Tony would be extremely draining even as a well paid actor.
Adriana proved herself to be not so smart. After telling Christopher she was talking to the feds, once Christopher left the apartment, she would have grabbed everything she could carry and hauled ass. Especially after getting Tony's call. I can't believe she was that naive.
Don't take an oath if you can't uphold it. Don't commit crimes if you can't face the consequences alone (i.e. without throwing other people under the bus for it). You lie with dogs, you get fleas. Every one of these people knew exactly what they were doing, and I can't feel sorry any one of them.
@@Cbart23unless im mistaking what you’re saying, this is a dumb analogy. The japanese military targeted battleships, aircraft carriers, and other MILITARY instillations. The US responded by bombing a city in which over 200,000 people died, many many being civilians.
I just never felt convinced that Jimmy was a rat and not just a moron that happened to stand out cause we were all looking for a rat. David Chase nor any of the other writers have ever confirmed it either. We're just assuming Tony was right but I feel like it misses a lotta the point. Either Jimmy is such a moron that he's not more careful about giving himself away, which would also just explain his behavior even if he's not a rat, or his character makes no sense at all. Tony and the audience wanted it to be Jimmy cause we all liked Pus and didn't really know Jimmy. Also think the idea that Chrissy may be cause he wore a hat and turned up the stereo is a massive reach that is better explained by other things.
What I think of those who decide to flip is that they should gotten the charges because they should know that those who already flipped earlier was a warning that if they get pitched and they decide to flip as well then they are next to be silence as well.
Bro, what's up with your elocution? 😅 Also, at 12:03, you meant to say "Eugene sacrificed his own life for his family's happiness," not "Eugene sacrificed his family's happiness for his own life."
I thought maybe Chris would be a rat near the end because just before the car crash with Tony, they were playing The Departed soundtrack, which is all about a rat.
Adriana was a sad end. She kept giving them next to nothing and the feds used her love of Chris against her by threatening that they'd take him down if she didn't cooperate. Then the way she went out was brutal to see.
Ade grew up mob-adjacent and enjoyed the perks of that life while suffering brutal abuse at the hands of her junkie mafioso boyfriend. She was also very foolish in regards to how she handled being brought in for questioning by the Feds; she should have lawyered up instantly. A happy ending was not in the cards for Ade…
Another video, another bunch of Sopranos fans acting like Adriana wasn't fully involved with and committed to the mob as a criminal and essentially an associate.
It’s hilarious when fans act like she was some innocent victim. The reason she was flipped by the FBI was because she helped Matush cover up a murder in her club.
To live in that sphere. The mafiosi life. Guns, crime, murder, drugs, it's a level of humanity that most people won't go. The ones who do, inspired by shows like The Sopranos, live in fear, angst, dread, paranoia, just like Tony does. Because, when you get caught, you're clawing and scratching your way out of those charges. You don't want to go into the unknown not knowing. 10, 15, 20 years, life? Not a single one of those characters ever opted to take on the courts.
This is a good video essay-- I just have a quick nitpick. Season Premiere's are not "Pilots". They are premieres. Only the first episode of a series is a pilot.
I know it’s a show but the ironic part of Eugene’s wife wanting to move to Florida is that Florida especially broward county was ground zero for the opioid pill mill epidemic. Her son would have just fell into that crap since it started around mid 2000s,right around the time the time the show was nearing its end. She would of probably moved her son to his eventual death because the pills were easy to get and unlimited amounts by doctor shopping.
What the hell, dude? "These rats got what they deserved?" You're on the side of the mafia? Your priorities are completely upside down, man. When the Feds came through the snow when Tony and Johnny Sac were confabbing outside John's house I shot out of my chair with upraised arms yelling "Yes! Yes! Get 'em! Get 'em!" The shit those criminals pulled... utterly vile and disgusting.
The FBI were garbage at keeping their rats alive and were borderline incompetent throughout the series. They felt like something closer to team rocket than a major threat, though they did eventually snag a big break.
I wouldn't even be surprised if Raymond was an FBI double agent who infiltrated the mafia in his younger years. The man was out there asking for reimbursements on his shirts since he got food stains from attending a mob dinner 😂😂😂

I also figured the basement scene with Jimmy and Tony, to be more of Tony's paranoia and confirmation bias convicing himself that it is indeed Jimmy thats the rat. I dont know, I could be off though. Looks like i need to rewatch the show...again...lol
Nope. You're 100 percent right
100% on point. Jimmy was not a rat
If he wasn't a rat then why the sit down to go over stuff they already went over?
There was never any substantial proof that Jimmy was a rat. Slander, ya ask me.
I'll tell you one thing, if it was me this kid was spreading' rumors about, he'd have something up his own ass.
What gets me is that, so far as I can tell, the rats never felt any guilt about the lives they led up to that point. They were criminals before they turned and during their informing and, like Henry Hill, they’d probably continue to be criminals once they were “out.”
Wasn't a sock. It was a 5 wood golf head cover
I heard Borko is doing real well. He put a new lawn in ... When did you put your lawn in?
Paulie was right about kids being incompatible with the life...
W content mate
This show is full of so many good stories, gonna be a good rewatch
i love how everybody feels sorry for adrianas ending when she knew EXACTLY what chris did, took part in enjoying all the perks that came with the life, was dealing coke out of the club PLUS aided matush in the murder. OH yea she was such a sweet innocent girl lol
A) She was whooah
B) She didn’t serve drinks with enough olives
absolutely no class and always on the hustle@@kevinfinnerty8414
@@kevinfinnerty8414 and she wasn't capable of carrying any kids
@@brandonjustis not one pregnancy scare in the whole relationship,,,,,,Chris was dumb.
In real life, theres no way Tony would have been on the street as the Boss for 8 straight years.
He would have gotten RICO'd rather quick.
Wasn’t it Larry who told everyone about the pending indictments at the wedding?
Yea I think you're right
That is correct. Larry Boy ratted on the FBI! 🐀
@@caseybanter willy overall.the bookie.....they said larry pinned it on someone else
Is it true that it was never truly confirmed that Jimmy was an informant?
I'm very confused with your implying that they "got what they deserved by dying, " seems awfully mean
Paulie was a rat too when he told Johnny Sack about inside info
He was a turncoat ..a rat tells law enforcement about other criminals
Treason...Definitely a family traitor...
*late thirties
Alteri wasn’t a rat. There’s too much proof that he wasn’t. Alteri was meant to highlight the paranoia of being in the life.
this gonna be a good one!
Richie Apriel was a captain who never rattled!
Is anyone forgetting the scene in like season 3 when Raymond is with an fbi agent in a parking lot and he asks him to be wired
I thought it was a golf club cover stuffed in Mazzarone’s mouth when the cops found him.
Adrianna got a super raw deal.
Adriana also didn't want to do prison time, Christopher said to Tony

THE RAT ROCKS!!!
Thx!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾
He's a bad boy with that lingo. Real dark fucking character.
Dont commit crimes. Seems reasonable.
Word to the wise. Remember Pearl Harbor.
@@Cbart23unless im mistaking what you’re saying, this is a dumb analogy. The japanese military targeted battleships, aircraft carriers, and other MILITARY instillations. The US responded by bombing a city in which over 200,000 people died, many many being civilians.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
(Sammy Davis, Jr. / Baretta).
These actors do a great job of portraying mobsters as scumbags.
Can we get a companion video on how badly the FBI mishandled their informants throughout the show?
The way that FBI agent looks when he comes around the corner smiling at...Sal has always been disturbing to me.
Rule one of la costra nostra never betray the family.
The more you watch this show closely, she was switching left and right
I just never felt convinced that Jimmy was a rat and not just a moron that happened to stand out cause we were all looking for a rat.
Blood in blood out.
What I think of those who decide to flip is that they should gotten the charges because they should know that those who already flipped earlier was a warning that if they get pitched and they decide to flip as well then they are next to be silence as well.
....pinched....
Thank you for not simping for Adriana, unlike other channels... Pure Kino... whatever happened there
This video contained no theories or insights. It was just a re-telling of what we watched on-screen.
Maybe it's time to rename the channel
Luckily Jimmy had a top of the line posturepedic at home
Bro, what's up with your elocution? 😅
Also, at 12:03, you meant to say "Eugene sacrificed his own life for his family's happiness," not "Eugene sacrificed his family's happiness for his own life."
I thought maybe Chris would be a rat near the end because just before the car crash with Tony, they were playing The Departed soundtrack, which is all about a rat.
He’s wearing a ball cap too.
Sopranos theorys voice is hot
Adriana wasn’t a rat, she wasn’t a member of this thing of ours.
Another reminder how sht the FBI were
Adriana was a sad end.
@@CaptainColdyron222 not only that, any case against her was really weak compared to the other rats. Rosalie would be ashamed
Fitting that the video covering rats in The Sopranos has a runtime of 12:47. The numbers spell out "RAT"
Good catch, very observant. The Sacred AND the propane.
Toney would have flipped so fast if he ever got caught. 💯 %
Adriana wasn’t a rat. She was a lady who wanted to have a life.
"they got what they deserve" man if mafias were still around like back then id bet they'd have no members
Emil not email. 😂
This is a good video essay-- I just have a quick nitpick. Season Premiere's are not "Pilots". They are premieres. Only the first episode of a series is a pilot.
what about Carlo
Yes! Get 'em! Get 'em!"
The shit those criminals pulled... utterly vile and disgusting.
The FBI wasn't any better. Plus it's just a show.
This is like watching COPS hoping they get shot. Go back to The View
Mafia had informer in the FBI and FBI had informer in the mafia, like in "Departed"
The FBI were garbage at keeping their rats alive and were borderline incompetent throughout the series.
They felt like something closer to team rocket than a major threat, though they did eventually snag a big break.
A video about just how badly the Feds mismanaged their informants (especially Ade) would be interesting.
The fbi didnt really do a great job of giving the informants protection
One of them was the same rat 🐀 in casino that kept complaining to his mother about the trips to Vegas with the suit cases 🧐😂🤫
Hot take: Jimmy was never a rat.
Actually David chase confirmed that Jimmy was a rat
I wouldn't even be surprised if Raymond was an FBI double agent who infiltrated the mafia in his younger years. The man was out there asking for reimbursements on his shirts since he got food stains from attending a mob dinner 😂😂😂
11:25 there’s the hat jack was wearing when he met Tony at the diner sitting on the table of the fbi headquarters
Out of all the rats on the show, that died the saddest we're Eugene and Adriana
Eugene was the only smart one on the Sopranos....handled things the right way
They all got what was coming to them.
Crime doesn’t pay, but small crimes help.
Which criminal escaped harm the most, Matush or the guy that assaulted Melfi in Employee of The Month?
They didn't get what they deserved. They were trying to get a menace off of the streets.
Adrianna was such a sad story.

“They ultimately squander…”
…what? WHAT is it that they squander?
I still believe parisi killed Tony
Lot of fans think that Revenge for his brother
I think that's strong possibility.
