- The player "goprogrambler" plays a lot of AoE2, and he has very unique strategies. He happens to be the lowest player on the ranked ladder and hilariously my casting overlay calls him MbL (pro player). Here he is facing off against an opponent on Socotra!

The way Progambler plays he's definitely someone who last played AoC back in 2004. I bet you he got it on the game pass on the Microsoft store and was like, man I haven't played this game in 15 years, lets give it another go. It's exactly how I played back then. Get all the upgrades in the age before going up, make 5-10 of every unit you can because obviously you need all the units otherwise why would you be able to make them? But he's like 50 or something like someone's dad who played because their kid played.
As a kid I used to do just that. put 6 on each material and they went to the town centre haha 😄

I remember when me and my family would 3 v 5 the standard AI, and our META was 5 vills on food and wood, 3 on gold and stone, then if you were making military and running low on, say food, you made more farmers, although I often went 6 on stone straight away for the 10 or more castles I intended to make.
I decided to become better at the game, looked up how to beat Byzantine full cataphracts, i found some of spirit of the laws videos, I started watching them and realised for the first time, it isn’t all about population efficiency going just your unique unit and thrashing you enemies while castle dropping anywhere there is space, I learned the counters, and finally I have sort of learnt the gist of a rush and fc build order. I then found a regicide rumble game which you cocasted with spirit of the law and decided to watch, I really enjoyed it and got into your channel, that is when the importance of hot keys dawned on me, I knew idle villager and idle military but had no idea otherwise. I now 1v1 the hardest ai (on disk so they get free sling) and 2v1 the hard ai. I also learned that mongols and saracens are actually good, and that teutons isn’t as OP as I used to think. I would like to thank both you and spirit of the law for getting me to where I am now at.
Your rant made me want to share, as a kid I would always build like a wall box, but tons of monks inside and try to convert as many of the AI troops as possible, then when i had "enough" i'd use the army consisting of only converted units to destroy my enemy, oh and i always made sure the enemy was playing persians :)
Love your story! When I first saw multiple TCs in ZeroEmpires‘s casts back in the day my mind was blown. My go-to strategy was walling up, usually playing Black Forest, letting the AI glitch out against the walls to build castles behind later.
For two hours I would do nothing but watching the castles kill defenseless units while I built up my Paladin army... Good days!

So back in the day, I would make probably 20 villagers and wait until I had full upgrades in imp before I started making any military. Would use castles & choke points to defend, and was always so annoyed when they ai used trebs. Good times.
Sounds like me lol. I would always play regicide fortress because you started with a castle or islands because on easy the AI wouldn't age up before you and couldn't transport until feudal age.
Trebs are why i made castle the highest age lol
The entire elite of AOE2 should train this guy to the max.

Here's a game idea. Not sure if any pro would ever agree to do this or not 1111
A Pro going undercover as a low elo legend, using a fake account complete with the low ELO in it. The pro will have to play against another LEL while maintaining their disguise as a LEL. We told the pro that this is just for the memes, so they can choose whether not to play seriously at all or choose to overwhelm their opponent towards the very end of the game.
But there's a PLOT TWIST: The opponent was ALSO a pro who disguised themself as a LEL. As the game progresses, it will be interesting to see if they realize it or not, And when they realize it, will they drop the act completely or not.
Also, optional... you could give the pros a set of challenges to to further incentivize them to lower their skill-level. e.g. research monk techs while not making any monks, or have lumbercamps at least 3 tiles away from the trees
Mr.Yo use low elo account to play, but only cuz he is payed to lvl up these account tho sometime he’s get donations to do meme stuff

I think some people just play for fun. My old man played Diablo 2. Took him months to finish on standard difficulty. He died thousands of times.
I have a win rate of 25 its low i loose a lot but i play none the less. Its fun its genuinley fun. This is the lind of game where wining or loosing does not matter.
It's actually when you suck at the game that it's mostly funny.
I'm just imagining Green rushing in with the scout, "What the- ...why did he gate in his lumber? Wait... was this a trap? How? Why?!! How did that work?!!!"

Goprogambler has done around 500 games since this video was released a year ago. He is at 130 Elo right now and he just won a game while I was writing this comment! A true legend!

I have only recently discovered your channel and somehow find it super nice, despite knowing virtually NOTHING about his game. I only played it when I was 8yrs. That was in 2000. After watching this video I am seriously considering spending my entire next week of vacation on AoEII Ranked and see how far I come. lol
At 2:41, green just did what I literally just learned in the last game I played a few hours ago: if you can't steal your ai's sheep, you can kill them. Even directly under the town center (at least on moderate lvl AI, since I haven't had much success on Hard 1v1) the AI will not react whatsoever to you killing their sheep/cows/llamas.

Same. When I first started playing before age of kings even came out, I was more concerned about where I put my houses than how many resources I was bringing in. I remember struggling with the final mission on the William Wallace campaign. I was also 10 but you know I still sucked at the game.

@@AF-zw4wv You mean after? I lost every match I play and still 650 elo. You have to lost lots of lots of lots matches to go to 180. It probably take 20-25 hours of losing gameplay to get 200 elo. This is just bad matchmaking, bad game design. No one will ever continue to play a game after that much humiliation.
@@enlil06peacemaker If you're that low maybe you deserve it, ranked is supposed to be for competitive players, good and bad, it's not the matchmaking's fault it's doing its job the best it can.
Would love to see T90 Coach series, where low elo players are playing and T90 is telling them what to do xD
In Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 you could get a medal for losing a battle after using struggle. It was called "Never Give Up." Ive always loved the description: "A Medal for those who don't know when to quit even when there's nothing they can do."
This was a great one, I really hope Goprogambler enjoyed him/herself at least. This was very entertaining, I love the extremes of pro players and super-noobs, it's the in-between players I find kind of boring. I like the skill and speed and knowledge of pros, and I love the entertaining behavior, illogical patterns (like SimCity buildings, tri-house strategies, straggler trees, 0 sense of urgency, mapping half the keyboard to the town bell in case of emergencies), and the fun atmosphere of noobs. I also love watching T90 lose his grip on reality.
I really like that a pro player like MbL let this LEL win to motivate and encourage him. Well done!
the tree nearest to the tc.. it costs you literally half a sec or so? It might be unwise for high ranked games, but for anything else?
Low ELO legends are like WWF, you love them for their personality, style and character rather than their actual sport wrestling skill.

Idk. This game made me feel bad for some reason. goprogambler is a legend in my books for continuously trying to play the game despite losing so often.
Well, as long as he/she is having fun (I hope he /she is having fun) it's okay. I probably wouldn't have continued playing if I had 15% winrate and a 28 game losing streak. Massive salute to this guy for continuing to play like this despite so many losses.
@11:40. Idk why either. Nowadays most kids are pretty good at the game. They are tryhard (and sometimes toxic too). The adults are generally more laid back and fun-loving people. However, I guess it may be different for some other people. Some cant play well because of medical conditions, or maybe they lost an arm or an eye. It really sucks to hear about these things. But, at the same time, it's heart warming to see such players give it a shot despite their handicaps.

Watching these give me more confidence to jump into ranked. Then I do it and I immediately get crushed. :'(
Just Play enough, you'll get to the place you belong after a few Games and there the Games should be more even and you can start climbing from that Point onward, good luck!

I have built my farms in a square since possibly 1996. I have to. It's a must. I have no idea how people build them any other way.

@T90Official Hoang just played a game against saymyname that you have to cast. He (SPOILERS) trapped knights with endless palisades that were raiding him while he ate TC, then after eating TC came back and killed the knights with onagers

Played a team game with goprogambler today, his 1v1 stats are still bad but his team game stats are ok atm, he is a legend

I envy those players. They play because they have fun. They are used to losing, they don't get enraged, they just continue playing like a rock. No pressure, no stress, just game. No matter the outcome.
That is sometimes the best way to play. I miss those times where i could hop on any game with my friends just to have fun. Nowadays i see myself getting mad when the game does not go as planned
thats how i play in ranked got close to 300 games, win rate 52%, but i only ever use the same civ and strat no matter the map but i do ban water maps and arena
Let's not forget that this could be someone with one arm or a 11 year-old or whatever. I watched a video of somebody playing world of tanks decently once and at the end the caster said: "i featured this because he only has one arm and still manages to play better than most people"
Honestly I had the exact same tower mentality for a while, everyone knows that units physically can't raid if I have a single tower up
I'm surprised the towers were so ineffective, being fairly close together. Probably need 5 villagers in each tower or 5 archers. Would that have worked?

I knew that Bell wasn't gonna get rung, or at least, I was surprised when it eventually was.
Oh wow, since then he has dropped to 66 Elo (he didn't even stop to play at 69 Elo [nice]). He does win games though! Although not recently, with a streak of 28 losses. Ah well, still better than San Marino's national football (or soccer for Americans) team, who have won one match in more than 160 games. It was a 1-0 win against Liechtenstein, back in 2004.

Ill bet Forastero is an old AOE1 player with his 6 Dark Age barracks. In AOE 1, you couldn't Q more than one unit per building IIRC. When I played AOE1 Minoans and wanted to mass archers, I'd build 20 to 30 archery ranges and ripple through them at lightning speed, have them spawn nearly at once. With pop 50 games, it was devastating. Yes I'm old!

I played a whole campaign round without farms just fishing ships. I Felt like something was off, I had like 25 vil’s on wood and plenty of space around my Tc’s until I realised I didn’t have any farms.

Fun idea- every player has to be stoned playing on a map with no stone. Make use of the green 🌳 😂.

This sounds wrong but it's the easiest way to describe it:
I put farms in a half-swastika shape (or swirl). It works for saturating both TC and mill areas 100%.
TC's will have 8 farmers as close as possible, then +4 between 1 and 2 farms out. Then 8-12 1 farm out.
Mills will also have 8 farmers ACAP, then 12 1 farm out.
Honestly, FORASTERO’s dedication to The Aesthetic is impressive
The rows are efficient and the neat farm square gets an extra farm in. Spaces between military buildings make sense, especially on forested maps.

To be honest, I do chop a straggler tree off the bat so I can build a mill before the lumber camp.

Everyone saying he should just get trained, maybe he is disabled, but he loves the game but physically cant get any better. This is the problem with this series, you don't know why their elo is where it is, but fuck it, lets monetize their struggle.

I played goprogambler (xbox player?) today. 2v2 casual. He played with a viking who shattered me and my friend. Then I sent 2 knights into his eco while viking was erasing my base. i wanted to see what goprogambler has. Not trash him. :(
If scouts could hit deer.. Then his ostriches are gone lol
Mining tons of stone and gold early on is not a tactic I would usually go for, but on a small island like that, might not be a bad idea.
