    What an epic video which covers the meticulousness of Asiana Airlines' premium services on a long-haul flight as well as the stunning London's view as the plane approached LHR!!! You are lucky to be onboard one of the last Asiana's flights.

    Las Vegas, in addition to being a tourist destination both for Americans and some international travelers, also plays host to a quite a few business conferences and trade shows each year. Oh, and it’s a “Hub” for Southwest Airlines, even though Southwest isn’t fully on the hub and spoke model like American, Delta, and United. So quite a few Southwest Passengers, especially those transiting between the West Coast and more Eastern parts of the country will change planes there.

      @@tfftbecause there are many tourist going to Las Vegas, This Inchon airport is South Korea busiest and most important gateway to the world. Tells you how massive US internal tourism is and even South Korea a major country in Asia fits into the larger context of global aviation. South Korea can afford to make ICN pretty but can it do that with multiple other airports larger or similar size? Most likely not.

      It’s because the rankings mentioned are 2023 numbers, aka post pandemic, where international numbers haven’t fully recovered. In 2019, ICN saw 71.2 million passengers whereas LAS had 51.7 million.

    The reason the takeoff was so much louder is most likely because the power setting is at TO/GA, on most A350 flights they're at FLEX takeoff config which is not full power and makes a huge difference in engine noise.

      In case someone else doesn't know what these words mean: TO/GA is Take Off / Go Around, which is the maximum thrust the engines can produce, but it can only be used for a limited time. FLEX is the more fuel efficient lower thrust setting. For larger airports FLEX is usually good enough to take off, but on this flight they went with TO/GA. At least that's what I could find with a bit of googling.

    FWIW regarding your 15 hours flight, almost all of the TYO-LHR flights are going east-bound at the moment due to the Russian airspace issues, taking the polar route over Alaska and Greenland, while LHR-TYO take the Caspian route. Both are 15+ hours as a result, and great for that proper F experience!
    When the long runway at HND was closed for a week at the beginning of the year, the JAL TYO-LHR had to stop in Nagoya or Narita to take on enough fuel for the trip: it couldn't take off on the shorter runways fully loaded.

I believe they are more focused on efficiency, poise and presentation, of which they are very good at. Being retired cabin crew, I tend to focus on watching their service flow, body language and eye contact. It's interesting to see the differences from nationality to nationality. Filming crew interactions isn't my style- the 'crew in passing' shots have appeared at times... likely more noticable now since when I started the channel everyone was wearing masks lol.

    Vegas is a fairly major hub for Spirit Airlines, Frontier, and Southwest too. So that boosts their passenger numbers on top of people organically flying to the city.

    From one Jersey guy to another, great job. I am always curious. Wonder if you will ever travel to South America? I was an exchange student in Buenos Aires in 1972. The Argentines are wonderful people. Ditto, Brazilians. Maybe your work keeps you from going there but would be interesting.

    Sometimes, flying can be simply glorious. Really enjoyed the views. The one question I have relates to airline alliances. Back in '04, when I went from 250K miles/year to zero, Asiana was in OneWorld and Korean Air was in Star Alliance. Now, Asiana is in Star Alliance and Korean Air is in Sky Team. After the merger, I assume that Asiana will be brought into Sky Team. Changing alliances can be really expensive and technically challenging. If you have any insight into the alliance musical chairs played by the two main Korean airlines, I'd appreciate the enlightenment. Thanks in advance.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Insight into their past alliance movement? No, I don’t have any knowledge about it.

    Thanks for the review! We have an upcoming ICN-LAX flight in J in around 5 months. It seems like the merger is inevitable, but slow going. Once it happens, I wonder how this will affect peoples tickets? It's not like Asiana will disappear over night, right?

    • @tfft
      @tfft  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It won't effect your tickets at all (at least 5 months from now). Ops are staying completely separate until BOH integration is complete. We're talking 18 months at best.

    I flew last year LOT from ICN and the flight was at 11am, so we had lunch by noon and they dimmed cabin by 1pm and it was 13hours trip. I think airlines are doing this to impose on passengers to sleep so the cabin crew can rest

    I’ve accidentally become a loyal Asiana customer since 2022 as they were always either the most affordable or convenient option for my surprisingly frequent East Asia trips recently. They are a super solid and reliable option. Their catering out of Seoul might just be the best economy catering I’ve ever had. Their catering partner (which I believe is LSG) managed to pull off pesto pasta and juicy creamy chicken on a plane. For an economy meal... I thought I’d win the lottery first. It’s therefore a shame they might disappear soon, but I’ve heard good things about Korean Air, so all hope isn’t lost. But Asiana defiantly must step up their entertainment offering as long as they’re still operating, because it’s sparse af.
    Final note, I think the different spool up sound at takeoff might have to do with the engine being able to perform better with the higher density and moist air when it rains, or just the general acoustics in such weather. A350 takeoff in the rain is music to my ears 😊
